A true to heart spiritual success to Symphony of the Night would have plenty of blood and gore, but the game was released when "ANIMATED VIOLENCE" and "ANIMATED BLOOD AND GORE" would earn you a "T" rating, but I want to know what you think. What rating do you think Bloodstained will earn and for what? Some extra information on ratings system: Teen - "Games with this rating contain content which the board believes is suitable for those aged 13 years and older; they can contain moderate amounts of violence (including small amounts of blood), mild to moderate use of strong language or suggestive themes, and crude humor." Mature - "Games with this rating contain content which the board believes is suitable for those aged 17 years and older; they contain content with an impact higher than the "Teen" rating can accommodate, including intense and/or realistic portrayals of violence (such as blood, gore, mutilation, and depictions of death), stronger sexual themes and content, partial nudity, and more frequent use of strong language." Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entertainment_Software_Rating_Board#Rating_processBased off of this information, a modern game identical to SotN would you would believe would garner what rating?

I don't know anything about ratings, but demons are in, so religious guidance might be a thing. I expect spewing blood from bisected enemies, so animated blood and violence. I would like to see an option for nudity censorship for those who want to share the game with their kids. I don't want to see Miriam nude, but I would like to avoid the censorship problems that have hindered SotN with monsters and architecture.
So... Mature I guess.
Before there are many votes, you might want include some info on how ratings are defined and assigned.

Needs more EROTIC VIOLENCE =p.
Seriously though. I hope the game has some really disgusting enemy like legion or whatever which prob gives it an M right away.

I voted for "I don't know". I have a feeling it'll probably be "T" since most of IGA's older titles had the same rating and I'm guessing Bloodstained will have similar content. Then again, the ESRB is kinda inconsistent with ratings, Bloodstained will have better graphics than all of IGA's older work and possibly have more detailed acts of violence, and as Ghaleon mentioned, enemies similar to Castlevania's Legion would probably push the game into an M rating anyway.

go m or go home! this should NOT be hindered by the castevania censorship of the past. blood should be red! religious references should stay intact! iga is given 100% control of his work..... and this does not look like a game for kiddies. maybe a censorship OPTION for those who are really sensitive... but otherwise bring on the blood and nudity!!

As I said in another thread, I believe, IGA's Castlevania games have traditionally been rated T, so I doubt Bloodstained will be much different. I think the ratings agencies are more lenient when it comes to 2D games rather than 3D games, like Lords of Shadow. I would wager IGA will be able to get away with some blood and gore, though nudity might push it up to an M. I doubt we'd see much nudity outside of architecture, though.

I agree, they will probably just call it cartoon violence or whatever they usually say. Hopefully any nudity would be kept to architecture because the last thing I want is for this game to turn into a stupid fanservice thing (I am sure it won't). I would be selling my copy so fast your head would spin.

Sadly they'll lean over the rating of 'E10+' or at the most 'T'. Equivalent to 'PEGI7 and PEGI12. Sadly

I REALLY HOPE it will be "M" to prevent any censor on their creativity, i am so tired and angry from some censorships around, this censor thing is becoming a plague this last decade i can't stand it , i like to see things exactly as the author made it, i don't want any kind of restrains. Actually i am expecting some rooms on Bloodstained with hanging dilacerated corpses, body members haning around, "disgusting" enemies models and blood, a lot of blood, i mean thats a NEED not even an expectation in my opinion. I can understand graphical sexual censors since some persons may not like it and that is not the point of the game atmosphere anyway(not the main point at least), but certainly i can imagine dark themed naked girls portraits hanging on the walls as making sense on the game dark atmosphere, but it doesn't seems to be happening for moral purposes unfortunately. Not to mention succubus and other demons that are supposed to have their bodies exposed, but all that are minor things so i can bear with it. I just don't want to see restrained good ideas because of that. As i understand we need a "M" mainly because of the "blood and gore" part. "T" may be fair enough to make the game right, but it is the barely minimum. Anyway i am sure Iga and the team know what they are doing.

Heck yeah go M rated. *drool* in all seriousness tho, I would like for them to be able to as much as they can without any limitations and worry about what they can't put in the game >_>

There is no way this game will be anything less than T. M is pretty likely, as others are saying, due to the graphics and depiction of gore. There will also be a lot of demonic themes and designs.
I won't mind, either way...so long as it's not A-O erotic violence, of course. -_-

"T" may be fair enough to make the game right, but it is the barely minimum. Anyway i am sure Iga and the team know what they are doing. To be fair, a lot of times the games that do have blood can be rated T to some degree. I have no idea what Bloodstained will get obviously but I'd hope that it is available to more people and that the art style is also not muddied by the rating. However I am also one of those guys who doesn't care at all how grotesque or outlandish something is, it wont offend me. More over I find a particular interest in things that out right make people wince or make reaction based on what they see / hear / do. Case in point, you can kill off a main character and it make little to no difference to the player if this were to occur. (How would you feel if Maria died in SoTN for example? Likely you wouldn't bat an eye because she doesn't really mean crap to you playing through the game unless you had the japanese copy) Further on this point you have the idea that in order to make something matter to the player both in aesthetic and idea you want everything to be cohesive and make a lot of sense. If I walk into Castlevanias "Dracula" boss room, there are things I expect. A chair (throne / etc: ). Same can be said of the Succabus fight in SoTN, Thought that save location looked kinda odd... Boom Boss fight with 32 bit pixel art boobs flying around. Sense is made. As long as the atmosphere makes sense, however done, It'll be okay T or M realistically makes little difference outside of possible "grotesque" or "excessive" use of viscera etc:. In the end though we do have to trust Iga on this... which we do.

Maker Yes we know Iga will do it right, i am not really concerned. About blood on T rating, yes it may have it but it is different from the M, blood on T is described as "minimal blood" and blood means "Despictions of blood" as the official ESBR page says, while on M "blood and gore" means "Depictions of blood or the mutilation of body parts". So it makes me think the T rating supports blood IF it doesn't happens excessively, probably an enemy gushing blood on the death animation is prohibitibe as T rating? Or because it has 2D cartoonish-like graphics this doesn't apply? And the "mutilation of body parts" could be nicely used as death animations or midway events on boss battles. Does anyone here know how all this rating thing really works, is Bloodstained kinda protected because of the non-realistic graphics so it can make more mature scenes as a T rating or it's the same logic for all art syles? Anyway i am sure Bloodstained will be the best metroidvania of this decade regardless being rated T or M.

Worth noting that the ESRB has been getting progressively more strict as the years have gone by. I wouldn't be surprised if Bloodstained ends up in the 'Rated M, but would have been a T had it been released 8 years earlier' boat.
I'm predicting T or M. I'll actually be a bit displeased if the game has AO level content.
However, someone refresh my memory as to what graphical style Bloodstained is using, because I know the ESRB tends to be quicker to give 3-D imagery a higher rating on account of being more 'realistic'. (I think I heard that it was 2.5D but I won't swear to it.

(I think I heard that it was 2.5D but I won't swear to it. I was thinking the same thing. I remember how older T-rated Star Wars games featured enemies arms and legs getting cut off by the player's lightsaber and there wasn't any blood, just burn wounds because of how they seal up arteries or something like that in order to be consistent with the movies. But now recent SW games don't feature it because they'd be rated M despite how the movies and CGI cartoon shows have featured severed limbs (or heads). There's also branding to take into consideration; despite its violence, SW has always been family friendly thing and an M rating might hurt the image due to all the things associated with it. Then there's also situations like Earthbound being K-A (mid 90's E) when it was first released and getting rated T on the Wii U's virtual console with no changes. All in all, I just hope IGA makes the game he wants to make since he has the freedom to do it. He shouldn't be worrying about what it'll be rated or trying to aim for a specific rating, kinda like what Rocksteady did with the Batman Arkham games.

That said yeah the ESRB has gotten more strict recently. Something I had totally not paid much attention to. But a little R&D goes a long way. Perks of being old i guess... "ratings?" course I was one of those 80's kids who had porn on hand since they knew what it was... so my compass on such things might be a little "off"

Given most (all?) of the Igavanias hit a T rating, I'd expect this game to do the same. If the writing is actually going to take advantage of a higher rating (like say the Witcher) for the sake of a quality narrative I wouldn't be horribly opposed I guess but I don't want a M rating to just be an excuse for extra tits, blood, gore, "edge" that don't increase the quality or the narrative. IGA has always had a good handle on horror without crossing unneeded boundaries, I'm expecting the same here.
