There's no denying Castlevania: Symphony of the Nights is a great game, but I always thought it had one big flaw. It's way too easy. That's why for me Order of Ecclesia's my favorite, I think they hit the difficulty curve perfectly on that one. I know a lot of people consider that game to be too hard or even unfair though, so I'm curious what is the rest of the Army of the Night hoping for Bloodstained's difficulty.

I remember Igarashi saying that he liked SOTN because even if you weren't the best gamer you could eventually beat it via leveling/learning patterns or whatever. I think that's fine with me as long as it's fun and not repetitive. For New Game+ and Dungeon Mode however... I really hope they ramp up the challenge! (EDIT: What I mean by challenge is that I hope that enemies get more combos/attacks and be less predictable for New Game+ and such instead of just a damage output increase).

Ah yeah, he said something like that in the Kickstarter Ending stream. I do hope he tunes it up a bit though, or maybe let us choose the difficulty from the start instead of leaving hardmode for New Game +.

There will also be the selectable "Nightmare" difficulty, though how that will actually be implemented isn't really known yet.

"easier than sotn" is a joke , where is dawn of sorrow? I voted on OoE because the difficult level there is really refined and fair, but Dawn of Sorrow seems quite good too, these two games should be the reference. Harder than OoE or DoS might be too much for some players. And SOTN i am playing with the low stats cheat plus a unnoficial mod called "Hard Type" which intends to make the game much more difficult, sometimes the mod is unbalanced but that's not a problem, the game became pretty challenging with this mod. Anyway, every new game i felt the difficult became more balanced, SOTN was the first to use the RPG elements, so it has big flaws on that matter.

I voted for different reference. I'd like something harder than SOTN, but not as difficult as OOE. I felt the Souls and PoR games had a good level of difficulty.
But as other people have brought up, I'd like the super hard stuff to be in Classic Mode or Nightmare difficulty in order to give people more options on how to enjoy the game.

Classic mode is where the real difficulty lies. Yeah, I bet classic mode will give most folks as much challenge as they could want

SOTN was indeed piss easy. Like I appreciate that Classic Mode and Nightmare Difficulty will be around, I'd hope that the base difficulty of the game, while accommodating to a wide range, isn't so low as to be a cake walk for anyone with any experience with Igavanias. I'd like a reason to actually use all the weapons and systems the game will have and not just sleepwalk my way through the main game at base difficulty.

The thing is SotN was actually a decently challenging game (i.e. you could feasibly actually die) early to mid-game, but most of what we remember of it is the late game. Before your levels get high and you get that silly equipment, there are times when you have to really think about what you're doing. They had the right idea for the most part, but throwing in so many powerful options later makes every part of the game trivial.
I mean, who didn't die to the doppleganger the first couple of times? You could go down the Outer Wall and challenge the knight down there and likely get yourself wrecked. The clock tower could be a problem before you have tools to deal with Medusa heads that petrify you.
Even on into the inverted castle, there's some spots that are pretty troublesome...until yeah, everything does 1 HP of damage to you and you're fighting with a blender Alucard doesn't even have to visibly swing. Richter mode goes to show how actually tough the game is if you have to honestly play smart and dodge things/beat enemies with traditional attacks.
I think they know what they're doing...the balance of latter Iga games goes to show it, imo. I hope that Nightmare, Classic et al modes have some incentive to them, too.

I want it to be near to Order of Ecclesia, but hard mode doesnt should be too focused on damage, I hate how Albus Lvl 1 dies with one hit in almost all areas. Unless it is a "1-hit kill" mode, like NOMIS, you should be able to take atleast 4 or 5 hits at minimum, no matter from who. SotN was hard at first to me, but now its so easy that if you use all things that the game give to you even without farming, you can become immortal. "easier than sotn" is a joke , where is dawn of sorrow? I voted on OoE because the difficult level there is really refined and fair, but Dawn of Sorrow seems quite good too, these two games should be the reference. Harder than OoE or DoS might be too much for some players. Anyway, every new game i felt the difficult became more balanced, SOTN was the first to use the RPG elements, so it has big flaws on that matter. Please, you can share it with me? Here, in another thread or via PM. I agree that maybe SotN have so many flaws in difficulty maybe because it was the first of a kind, if we didn't count CV2. The thing is SotN was actually a decently challenging game (i.e. you could feasibly actually die) early to mid-game, but most of what we remember of it is the late game. Before your levels get high and you get that silly equipment, there are times when you have to really think about what you're doing. I think they know what they're doing...the balance of latter Iga games goes to show it, imo. I hope that Nightmare, Classic et al modes have some incentive to them, too. Yes, as a kid I died a lot in SotN even in earlier areas like Marionettes, Cthulhu (the one named wrongly as Cthulhu) and bosses. But as time passed, I was almost unable to die. Since you have insight on this, you know why it becomes so easy after playing it for sometime? Im not even talking about equips, even a naked room using potions is a easy reality in SotN, if you are able to use soul steal, you don't even need potions.

I'm hoping the game will have a range of difficulties, and I don't just mean normal and nightmare and that's it... I was kinda hoping easy/normal/hard, in addition to nightmare, where the nightmare in this game would be like doom's nightmare difficulty, which is more than just a notch harder the previous difficulty, it also throws additional curveballs that you woudln't expect like regenerating enemies, health automatically decaying over time, etc.
But yeah I think OoE's difficulty is pretty decent for 'normal' difficulty, easy can be available for those who think that's too much, hard for people who though it oculd be harder (I haven't played OoE for awhile but IIRC the game certainly seemed alot harder than most CV games early on, but by the time you reach the castle, I recall the game was actually pretty easy).
Nightmare of course, I'm hoping will be cruel. Like trying to 1cc a shmup on its hardest setting or something.

Something between DoS or OoE is fine. The game should be at least a little challenging, but not that hard or frustrating, and OoE is just like that.

I'd like to see something between SotN and DoS for difficulty so most players can beat it. If you want a bigger challenge there will be the Nightmare difficulty. (assuming the difficulty is implemented in a good way)

Regarding the difficulty mod...I've had that for a while now, been planning on recording myself going through it and talking about Bloodstained/Castlevania in general. Maybe not streaming, because I probably wouldn't be sticking to a regular schedule and who would watch it live anyway, but perhaps put it on youtube. You can grab the patch for it at insanedifficulty.com. This site does not have roms or emulators. I'm sure almost all of us already legally own the game, but just thought I'd throw that out there.

OoE was perfect to me, in almost everything, not just the difficulty. It was well balanced and interesting. Very hard games that are frustrating turn me off, just like games that are too easy. Although, all Igavanias were great, I didn`t mind easier games like HoD. I will take anything, as long as it in spirit similar to Iga`s old games. I am not concerned about the difficulty. If it is not challenging for some players, they will play the nightmare mode. I can`t to play all possible modes.

I prefer my games to be very difficult, that way I get the maximum amount of satisfaction from them. That being said, I just hope the nightmare difficulty setting is a bit harder than OOC.
