A new crowdfunding site focusing on games called "Fig" just launched. The site's url currently redirects to its first crowdfunding campaign, Outer Wilds. Article from Wired.Article from TechCrunch.What sets it apart from just using Indiegogo or Kickstarter is that projects must be approved by a board of curators, only have a few projects running at a time, and people who donate enough money to projects can become actual investors and get a share of revenue if they are accredited. Fig's help and info page.Any thoughts?

people who donate enough money to projects can become actual investors and get a share of revenue. You know how people speculated (read: joked) that Vuze might make a huge KS pledge in order to pull the 500k gathered for the RA Kickstarter? Well, judging by this statement, this support platform would be completely open to such fun courses of action!

As a side note, one feature I like about Fig is the development tracker under the "game info" tab. It's a nice little feature.

I quite like this, and that tracker under game info is something ALL crowd funding sites should have, it's a very good source of information and let's people who complain about lack of updates see where the project currently is in development.
Nice start imo

Did anyone take a look at the advisory board? It's pretty hilarious.
If Schafer is one of your go-to industry experts, then you've got one sad setup there.

Nice start imo Yes, it sounds quite useful... IF the devs remember to update it on top of all the other work they're doing for the game . But if the board of curators make smart decisions about who can and can't make a campaign on Fig, that shouldn't really be a problem. If not, devs could always hire just one guy whose entire job is updating the tracker and they just sit at a computer every day like a hawk waiting for a rabbit to start hopping around somewhere, waiting for the exact moment when games move to different phases of development so they can update that tracker. Or Fig could just have a reminder/notification about the progress tracker when the devs make updates. But overall, I like what Fig's trying to do and what their goals are. Backers and actual investors donating together, not just anyone can make a project and they must be pitched to curators beforehand, and a focus on gaming. I'd like to see the platform take off and become the go-to platform for game crowdfunding.

Eh. It's a nice idea, but I won't be supporting projects on it as things stand currently. You have to have a net worth of over $1M to actually gain any benefit above what you would get from a Kickstarter campaign, Apparently they want to get rid of that barrier to entry eventually, but then isn't now.
If they can fix that problem, then I'll give it another look.

This site seems like a good idea, but I'm with Scars Unseen...it doesn't seem like it has enough broad appeal to meet with as much success as Kickstarter did. Still, vetting projects might be a good idea, since there are plenty of crowdfunding scams out there ;-;
