Recently, I played the demo for Dungeon Travelers 2, and it impressed me enough that I pre-ordered the full game, whereas before that I had no real desire to get it. Just yesterday, I finally got around to playing the Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire demo, and because I enjoyed it so much, I'm going to go pick up the game after work today. Likewise, I remember playing the demo for Fire Emblem: Awakening last year and being blown away. I probably would have bought that game eventually, but playing the demo made me realize that I needed that game in my life RIGHT NOW!
So, it got me wondering, have any of you bought a game because you played a demo of it? Conversely, has a demo ever been so bad that it convinced you NOT to buy a game?
Edit: This also applies to games in alpha, beta, early access, etc.

I got disgaea 4 a promise revisited on my vita only after I beat the demo. I had only played the original disgaea, so I was hesitant to buy it, but the demo changed my mind and I ended up getting it. Its a great game! I also ended up buying fire emblem awakening after trying out the demo. I thought that it was some mediocre anime rpg( never played a fe game at the time). It is now my 2nd most played title on my 3ds.

Yes in both cases.
BOUGHT -Kingdoms of Amalur. -Mass Effect 3's multiplayer. I was going to play the game anyway, but wasn't planning on multiplayer until the demo. -Batman: Arkham Asylum. Checked it out and went "Whoa, this isn't some crappy licensed game! This is actually good!" -Dead Rising. -Torchlight. -Castle Crashers. -The Dishwasher. -Left 2 Dead 2.
NOT BOUGHT -Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Went from being a purchase to a rental. -Guitar Hero 3. Played the songs it had and decided I was happy with Guitar Hero 2. -Ninety-Nine Nights. -Sonic 2006. Bullet dodged. -Lost Planet 2. My friends and roommates loved playing the demo, but didn't pick up the actual game since we were happy with just that. Maybe it worked a little too well. -Bulletstorm. I was looking forward to it, but felt how over-the-top it was got old after five minutes.

Yep, sure did. One occasion I vividly remember was playing the infamous demo, then immediately running out to gamestop to buy it. Took it home and played it 5 hours straight, good times. ノ(・ω・)ノ

Splatoon was a game that didn't got my attention until the Firetest demo. At first I was all like "uhmm... this game seems kinda dull. yeah the chars are cute and all but... only 4v4? a meaningless single player? why should I bother", then I played the demo and had a blast on the multiplayer and preordered right away. I played it 2 weeks straight, and then grown bored about it (lack of maps and multiplayer control is a sin in this game, but it has a decent single player and a fresh play mode).
Way back on 2012, Capcom let us glimpse a little of their new iteration of the Resident Evil franchise, 'Revelations'. Oh boy the demo was short yes, but it made go directly to buy it. Played it a lot, loved it, and wasted a lot of time on my 3DS going to college and work. One of the best looking games of the 3DS for sure.
And well, when I had a PS3 I tried the Final Fantasy XIII Lightning Returns demo, and I have to say I liked it. It's not perfect but it had an interesting way to play. And Lumina, gosh I would marry her totally. Anyway I never bought it cause the demo wasn't enough.
I don't remember more now cause I'm sleepy (=^= ) will try some more anecdotes later

You know, one time a guy got on my case for not pirating a game to try it out.(After getting on my case about my name at the time Bleachlover01, which had nothing to do with the cartoon if you could believe it.) I was on a romscout live stream. He seriously could not fathom my reasoning for buying an Ace Attorney game on faith. A game without a demo and a series that I wouldn't dream of pirating, unlike about 1/3 of the current fanbase. He even called me an idiot for doing so. I'm all for demos, but forcing a demo through piracy? Yeah, no. Dude was a jerk anyway, but that conversation sticks to my mind to this day.
That's enough of that anecdote. I try demos when I can. I also take my friend's recommendations very seriously, so if I followed that guy's logic then Ghost Trick and 999 wouldn't have had my business.
The most recent examples of me buying a game because of a demo off the top of my head is Freedom Planet and the original Bayonetta.
A recent example of me not buying a game because of a demo would be Regina Hope, Banzai Pecan, and Fuse. That last one was already a betrayal in my opinion. The lackluster gameplay and presentation just cinched it.

Heavens yes. Some of the oldest computer games I own I got thanks to enjoying their demos. These include ares and escape velocity from ambrosia, exile from spiderweb software, and odyssey: the legend of nemesis.
Games seem to have demos more infrequently now, and with less content shown. But one that comes to mind is double dragon neon.

Legend of Dragoon, Grandia, rented Metal Gear Solid (tried to buy but accidentally bought VR missions). I played the demo of Custom Robo in circuit city and bought that. I eventually bought Viewtiful Joe after many years.
The age of demos seems to be over mostly. I can't think of a single demo that I've played for any current Gen console, or even ps3.

I remember of Gex 2, Jersey Devil, Tomba!, Tomb Raider 2, Final Fantasy 8 (came with Brave Fencer Musashi), Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, Rival Schools and Vigilante 8 (but I got 2nd Offense first). But surely I should've missed 2 or 3 titles. Also I saw a demo video of Metal Gear Solid, Spyro, Resident Evil 2 and bought them. I really loved to play demo games on PSX, since these demos were really good to play and even replay. Also it introduced me to awesome franchises. Final Fantasy 8 was my first turn-based RPG game ever and I've only discovered it because of a demo!

Save yourself the trouble and don't get it. The entire series is stagnant and you'll avoid supporting a sleazy company by skipping the purchase.
