Been a while since I last posted here. Hoping maybe question will be able to grab this one up.
The game has sold at least a million units, we know. I assume AP and 505 consider that a success. So the question is, when you’re a publisher and you invest in a game, how much of the net profit (generally, not this game specific) will the dev take as opposed to the publisher? And on that note, does the money even go directly to the dev at all or is it all funneled through the publisher if they’re using one?
Continuing, I’d assume the publisher is willing to give the non AAA dev a little bit more monetary freedom in terms of the bells and whistles and stuff to make the next game exactly what their creative vision entailed? Or is there generally a set budget said publisher has in mind that they might be willing to expand given some unforeseen circumstances?
Okay. That out of the way, hello everyone. Hope you’ve all enjoyed playing bloodstained. I know I have. Despite the bugs and road bumps here and there, even being a switch player, I was able to look past them because it was clear there was a love and attention to what the fans thought and wanted. If any of you have ever played Gravity Rush 2, better known as Gravity Daze in Japan, I was always so fond of the soundtrack because it was so unique. It had rock, orchestra, jazz and all kinds of other elements that were just fantastic. I forget the composers name but I know he did stuff for One Piece among others. He’s up there with the Koji Kondos of the world. Tanaka maybe? I’m too lazy to look it up atm. Anyway, I felt that same experience playing bloodstained. There was a subtle familiarity but uniqueness that you don’t find in a lot of games let alone an indie.
I also enjoyed the art direction. Natsume did a fantastic job with the character design and overall concept work. Mana did fantastic with her carry over as well. Both artists are great. Looking forward to more of Natsume’s work at Inti. On to the speculation.
A few places I think Artplay could go with just Bloodstained I believe start with Rena’s characters that she voiced for those who go with English.
Anne reminds me a lot of Sonya and Maria I’d like to believe obvious reasons. I think if Iga wants to keep that bloodline and or familiar character continuation trope up then a grown up Anne would be a good place to start. In my personal opinion she was kind of out of place in the base game but could really set up well for a sequel where she’s learned different things about the occult and magic etc.
Now forgive me if I missed it but I don’t specifically remember the game stating Bloodless was a demon or everything within the castle was the result of the LL (correct me if I’m wrong) but boy it would be a refreshing take on the metroidvania series to see something fully based on Bloodless and her things she does. But I doubt that’s a thing despite her being a fan favorite and probably the most balanced playable character in RotN.
I don’t believe Iga will do anything regarding the curse universe, since it seems to be an alternate universe. We may see bosses like Mephisto eventually which actually was on RotN before curse, just as the save room sofa. I’d imagine the next iteration will be either a continuation of Miriam’s story in another land or a completely new adventure with new protags. The only thing that makes me rethink that though is the fact that Curse has such an expanded universe and 2 games already, you almost wonder if we’re even scratching the surface of what Artplay has planned. Either way, hopefully Artplay can get more staff, more money to work on their new projects and get more crossovers in big time stuff!
On a side note though, no matter what the higher ups might tell you, the straw man in me wants to believe that Iga has a select team already working on the next game with the rest on updates. But that’s just me.
Just a little thought stream of mine. No tl;dr. Hoping we hear more soon come E3. There a reason you guys always showcase your stuff in Nintendo directs btw? I imagine it’s because so many more eyes are on them than the other showcases of Sony and Xbox.
Hope you guys have a good one.
