The "2D Is Still Somewhat Alive" interview was very interesting and informative. He had almost no contact with fans and was afraid of forums and now look what he has done

That's awesome! I remember how excited I was the first time I played Castlevania: Chronicles and saw the IGA interview featured in it!

I love watching and reading interviews of Iga and Yamane! Too bad I cannot undestand Japanese, because the CV music box collection includes a DVD with interview with Yamane-san! Anyone got the translation of that?

I was reading this page and the old interviews linked by it and felt a little dead inside by reading this: It seems that he had a vision from above and knew that even if he liked it, it would fail if imitated, and then someone comes and do exactly that, without he being able to do nothing to prevent a disaster...

The idiom "when the cat's away, the mice come out to play" seems to fit well here. Without a pair of watchful eyes over the series, it was bound to fall into replication of other platformers that could possibly resemble whip mechanics. God of War seemed to do just that, and so the concept way essentially transplanted by Mercurysteam. Interestingly, there were 2 different castlevania titles released on the same console as God of War: Castlevania Lament of Innocence, and Castlevania Curse of Darkness. Both carried their own whip based mechanics, and Curse of Darkness improved upon Lament's system. I think these were the most fluid parts of these two titles, as no other combatant was quite as animated or graceful as Trevor and Leon. In my opinion, Hector felt a bit more constricted and rugged (he kept his arms closer to his body, and generally made powerful swings that aimed to crush, instead of slash), and Joachim came across as stagnant, with little life or animation due to his telepathic swords and levitation. This of course was due to the characters natures, but they could have been vastly improved upon.

The God of War-Castlevania comparison (not saying you are implying this) always makes me think of the time I saw someone give Dungeon Siege a bad review because of the camera angle "should have been behind the shoulder". I feel bad for the team to have all the work on the story, lore, character development, and music boiled down to that comparison because they chose to make the game in an arena-combat style and people don't recognize it as a genre. I actually remember talking to a guy that said he couldn't get into it because it copied God of War by having the character's feet kick up dust. lol

I actually remember talking to a guy that said he couldn't get into it because it copied God of War by having the character's feet kick up dust. lol Please don't take me wrong, I'm not that picky! LOL The problem is that they focused too much in these mechanics and that paired withe enemies that acts like in God of War and how the camera placement and pan/zoom, with some other details, makes me think 10 times more about God of War than think about Castlevania. Maybe some medusa heads or bats could've helped a little more IMO. Even so I can't say that it would make a total difference, because when I play Super Mario 2 USA it still feel very "Mario-ish?", even without mushrooms, goombas, koopa troopas and all other enemies from Mario 1. But sure, I won't deny, LoS seems to be a awesome game, I've played it for a bit and I plan to beat the trilogy sometime.
