Traditional 'didn't see a thread refering to this already, apologies for repeating, et cetera' introduction.
An idea mechanic I had randomly: use items to edit the stats of a weapon. Could go hand-in-hand with Crafting, could not, the game did several very complex features together, why not give a try on one more.
Example:
You have a Long Sword.
You have a Steel.
You go to the Temper option, and see the Long Sword has three slots:
Main Stat: ATK +4
Sub Stat: ---
Ability: ---
You could then use your Steel on the Sub stat slot, which would change its Sub Stat to CON and add CON +1.
Adding more Steel, or other items that change the Sub Stat to CON (or items which deal specifically with empowering already existing stats/abilities) by 1, or more with better items.
Adding the Steel to the Ability slot would add the "CON Up I: increase CON by 4 while equipped" ability to the Sword.
A Monster Heart, or Life Fruit, would change its Sub Stat to HP and make the appropriate additions.
A Dark Trigger would make a complex Sub Stat change, like STR +10, HP -10, CON -2, MND -2. You'd need either empowering items or more Dark Triggers to raise this stat change properly.
A Fire Gem would give the Ability "Fire Boost" to it.
Basically, each slot can only comport 1 change, so you should examine your resources and plan based on that.
I'm not sure if/how effects you've already spent could be redeemed/refunded to new ones in case you don't want to grab more items, and also to avoid people saving all materials to the end-game, apologies for this.
I thought of this, maybe, because there were times, especially in the early game, where I found so many materials, some very creative, and took them to the workshop all "Jon-jon, think you can do something with these, pleeeeeeeeease? ♥" only to have no new recipes unlocked, and having to wait until those showed up in-game.
If nothing else, would make the process of gearing Miriam up feel a bit more personal and satisfying.
Feel free to agree/disagree/add/take to this.
EDIT: Also note, I thought of this as something that could be implemented in a future game, not RotN. RotN is good as it is.
