One thing I like to do is ask myself, "did I collect or create everything I could possibly have so far" before entering a new part of a visited stage or before entering a new stage. Whenever I realized, "dang, I could have had that 2 hours ago??" I get bummed, LOL!
The only downside is the grinding that has to happen and it can interrupt general exploration and slashing away at the enemies (I prefer swords)!
