The Switch version of Bloodstained sold more than PS4 and Xbox One versions combined in the UK. And that’s considering that UK is mostly a Playstation Nation. This makes me question even more why the Switch version seemed to be the least of priorities to the team. Wasn’t Curse of the Moon sales being more than 50% on the Switch a dead giveaway guys? -_- Anyway, just some food for thought.

They probably bought into the marketing campaign of unreal engine 4, truth is that every platform still needs dedication and its own tools. X1/ps4 can do fine because they are too similar to pc, switch is the one that would benefit most of using the proper tools.

The Switch not even existing when the Kickstarter started would have alot to do with why. They only announced March 21, 2017, that they official started work on the Switch so it's been half the time working with it in mind then the other platforms.

They know it's a big deal, I would estimate it's roughly tied up with Steam/PS4 as being close to #1 for platforms. This is why they shifted their resources to get on immediate fixes for the Switch. The performance problems themselves seem to be related to a memory leak problem (from my last understanding of it), which is something harder to test for and often harder still to fix.
And even so, I think it could be selling quite well because a lot of people are having fun with it, too. I saw a poll not long ago about how people were feeling about it and the results surprised me.

lets just hope they don't ditch the Switch altogether for the sequel. I saw things lilke Tales and Ys not even mentioning the Switch because of...reasons.

This makes me question even more why the Switch version seemed to be the least of priorities to the team. Switch was the least of priorities because the only way to make it a priority at all would have been to make it the actual development platform, at the expense of all three other platform iterations, because the Switch is more than a whole console generation removed from the PS4 Pro, Xbox One X and PC. They had a choice. 1. Cancel the Switch version like they did the Wii-U version and hand out refunds. This action would have upset many more people than the handful in this forum claiming it would have pleased. 2. Release an unavoidably drastically inferior Switch port. 3. Develop two completely different versions of the game -- literally as different as if developing for both PS3 and PS4 -- with one of those being entirely for a single platform, despite the fact that the custom Switch version would be a very close match for a much easier direct port of the PC-originated version. Oh, and delay the final release by about another year to make this happen. There's a very good reason why the Wii almost never got versions of even the most popular games on PS3 / Xbox 360, and that reason is the basic need to create an entirely separate version of the game just for the only platform people still use that's that weak.

The first one would be they being ethic and giving a choice to backers, you are forgetting what they went with that was: Having a vastly inferior port, locking platform changes, denying problems, releasing specs once they locked platform changes, release a vastly inferior version, admit it is crap only it has universal bash from the media, somehow they managed to pick an even more unethical path than the path of delaying a version

sorry but how can anybody defend this situation? The last time the game was presented to the public before release, i think it was PAX, everybody saw the issues of the Switch version. And they lied about the issues being because the Switch units are getting hot. Then they gave the Switch version a one week later release with the explanation that the are using this for optimisation. Also, they released Promo-Videos from the PS4/XBOX One Version of the game for the Switch Version (look it up, here it is:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ziyxCRvqeIg). It is only fair to feel ripped off. Most of the people that bought the game have the inferior version and maybe also saw this video regarding the Switch Version prior to release and rightfully thought it would show the Switch Version and not the PS4/XBOX One version. What are they thinking? The were and are clearly lying to customers, the screenshots in the Nintnedo eshop are also from the PS4 version. They absolutely new what they are doing. They tought the game would not sell well on the Switch and the other version would overshadow the Switch port. That clearly did not happen.
They should have priorize the Switch version, not the other two. That would have been the right call.

Xbox and PS4 versions were far more advanced in development than the Switch's. In that case, the "right call" would have been releasing PC/PS4/Xbox versions first, and the Switch version far much later.

pythonI don't particularly disagree I can only assume that the disappointment of a long delay for a highly anticipated console and the potential loss in purchases convinced them to go the route they did but that's just my guess.

And i think you guessed right !
Releasing an inadequate product might result in better sales right now but Switch owners won't forget this for Igarashi's next project.

pythonI doubt that it will hurt them since I doubt the issue will be present in any sequel since they know they will want to release on the Switch, particularly since they are working to fix it now. I mean most people aren't going to hold a grudge 4 or so years particularly if they've spent the previous 4 years fawning over a great game, even if it had a few bumps in it's launch. AC Unity launched in a shit state that didn't stop AC Syndicate from making money.

I agree. I don't think Switch owners will literally hold a"grudge"; just that they'll be a bit more cautious and wait for reviews specific to their platform before buying next time.

bradd80 You have fun with that bitterness.
Nothing like a community having your back when they know full well that IGA dropped the ball.
You know switch backers were burned, yet you want to take snipes at them and put them down for standing up for themselves. What a great community.

Im going to hold a grudge. Should it have come out in better shape, yes, but you’re really going to hold a grudge even after they fix the game with patches? I can’t recall a single game in the last decade+ that didn’t need some sort of patch. Some minor and some pretty much making a whole new game.

Let's avoid dog piling people. Switch users have a legitimate reason to be disappointed. It's not going to be vocalized constructively every time, but leave that to our moderators, please.

I can’t recall a single game in the last decade+ that didn’t need some sort of patch. Some minor and some pretty much making a whole new game. I totally am going to hold a grudge, because they had ample time and warming to optomize the game and knew the game was in bad shape even back at pax. Trying to fix it after launch and only shifting the team to work on it after launch is something to hold a grudge over. ESPECIALLY since I backed this project and waited 4 years in good faith. And then on top of it I was handed false hope that the switch version was going to be good after Intial launch of the PS4, XBOX, and PC versions that looked and played amazing.
SO yes I will hold a grudge over the feelings of betrayal and feelings of being taken for granted by ArtPlay and Iga when it comes to the switch version where they did a sloppy and lazy unoptomized port. Worst yet is the switch version was the most anticipated version that they spent the least amount of time on.
Then there is the fact that 505 games wont let people change their DLC to a PLAYABLE version of the game like the PS4 version I had to BUY separately to have a working version of the game. I was forced to buy a second copy of the game after waiting a week for a broken crap game.
There are many reasons to hold a grudge.
People in the backer community slagging the switch backers who have legitimate complaint just adds to the grudges.

In this situation, it's better to let them cool off than say anything. Nothing will get through to them, and it will just needlessly escalate things.
