Chinese Vampires are, in a manner of speaking, earlier than vampires, but they share many basic traits. First of all both are undead, second both share a craving for blood, and third both are afraid of sunlight and moderately vulnerable to fire. Power can varify between super strength, flight, shapeshifting, super speed, etc. Power advance with age and the disease is infectious within a few days without immediate treatment.
In Ancient mythlogy, the first vampire was the daughter of the yellow emperor (whose is also famous for a book on inner Alchemy, note this happens long before Buddhism comes around), cursed by a rival tribal leader to be forced to suck human blood. She amongst other 3 figures associated with the yellow Emperor would become the true ancesters.
The creation of a basic Chinese vampire, named Jiangshi was relatively simple. All you need is a dead body who was resentful and had been wronged in life. Then seal them in a coffin (with wither prevention, such as using highly salty soil, unless this happens fast enough), and arrange it in a way such that the flow of Fengshui allow darkness to concentrate in its immediate area. Then wait a few days to months to years and you get yourself a basic vampire. Give it several hundread years it will gain horrible abilities, one of which is the ability to cause Draught. However, there is a more obsecure procedure amongst Taoist that would provide true lichdom that is far less understood, which seems to involve somehow also binding the original soul.
Though China lacks anything like Shintoism, Taoist wizard or Buddhist might occasionally bother to deal with them but common tools becomes less effective. Basic ones include Garlic, sticky rice, Blood of a black dog (they can generally be used to guard against minor spirits) especially when dripped on wooden swords (preferably Peach tree), and for some reason a measuring string. The first three can be used to counter infection before transformation. Any vampires more advanced require great arcane knowledge and power and specific knowledge against necromancy to overcome, but apparently they can be overwhelmed. In fact some times people gather during a drought, once they can associate the vampire with the problem, and organze army to burn them down.

There are a few major distinctions: A naturally occurred Jiangshi at first should only be considered nothing more than a monster, soulless one at that. However given enough time they accumulate power and turn into a true demon(Yao), which then include power such as flight. Additionally, without intentional corruption, it's not necessarily very malevolent once it regains some intelligence. They are also far more common in large tombs thanks to the mostly air tight chamber, though that requires further protection against Necrosis.
