Okay, seriously? How is this supposed to work?
I picked GOG for my digital backer copy because YAY, DRM-free, only to find out today when I try firing it up that it needs the GOG Galaxy client (WHY?!), which doesn't support the Switch Pro Controller and I've spent all evening mucking around with x360ce and wiiuinpro trying to get this off the ground to finally play the game. So my backer choice is so far worthless and I am NOT dealing with keyboard controls with those aiming shards in play.
... Had I known there'd be this much of a headache with the control scheme I'd have just picked a Steam key instead of being cute and trying something different.

Try adding the exe to your steam library as a non-steam game, and playing it through steam.

I don't use Galaxy at all, it should run without issue. If Galaxy is installed any games you install will create a shortcut that launches Galaxy at the same time as the game, so delete that and make your own direct shortcut to the game exe(or just navigate to the folder and run it each time).

Note that this might break achievements.

Note that this might break achievements. This is proving correct.
I get credit for achievements VERY intermitedly.
However, I have never liked playing with a wrap around UI running. So I am willing to let it slide for the sake of what I want.

Try adding the exe to your steam library as a non-steam game, and playing it through steam. I tried this previously when I still had the GOG Galaxy client installed, and it was screwing with Steam's mapping for the Pro Con, but it works after uninstalling GOG Galaxy! With just the vanilla game EXE being managed by Steam, I' getting proper Pro Controller usage with the game.
Mildly irritated that I wasted yesterday evening farting around with other options that ended up being largely unnecessary but thanks to all for the help! :D

I'm not big on achievements. Most I ever did was fully complete all the achievements for Curse of the Moon when I had the temp. key because of delays (?). It's no biggie.
