I've decided to create this little thread, for the purpose of discussion related to the 2 past BioWare RPGs set in the Star Wars universe (now part of "Legends"), before SWTOR was made. Fellow enthusiasts are free to talk about what they loved about both games, surely! Also, for those who haven't heard yet... KotOR II has received its first official update in 10 years!: HereStar Wars Knights of the Old Republic Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords

I thought that the KOTR games were still canon? I had thought they kept it canon because of the MMO, and also because it is so far back in the timeline that it wouldn't have a huge impact to the movies.
Either way, this is exciting! I still haven't finished the first game. I tend to go Sith all the way though.

I'm still aboard the boat of people that believe every one of the events in the EU/"Legends" that happen BEFORE the Movies are canon.

It'd be nice if they referenced the comics/games in the EU even just a little bit. Maybe even consider it an alternate timeline or something. Although if I remember correctly, the comic books contradict themselves a lot haha. Still, they were good reads. I hope they make a new SW RPG sometime soon. Or even better, finish 1313!

I've never made it far in KotOR II but i played the original a LOT of times. I do have II on steam though and it's tempting to play it using the mod that recover all of the cut contents, including an extra planet, amongst other things.
It was quite a fun serie.

You should definitely try KotOR II again. For me, it was already loads of fun to keep replaying the game, just to try out all of the different Jedi classes, and Light/Dark Side options. Then there's an easter-egg unlocked, if you complete the game 3 times as a female character.

When i played it, back in the days, it was on the original Xbox and it ran so damn badly... though i think it was rushed out.

From my understanding, Lucasfilm said the only canon materials in the new Expanded Universe are the Clone Wars and Rebels CGI shows and all the books and comics being published beginning from last august (starting with Tarkin IIRC). All the material from the old EU is up-for-grabs if Lucasfilm decides they want to revisit or re-use it. However, I don't consider any of the KOTOR games or SW:TOR as part of the current canon simply because they were released before Lucasfilm announced they were throwing out the old EU in favor of a new one. But IMO, as long as the old games/stories are good, it shouldn't matter if they're canon or not due to Star Wars being a mythology, and with the nature of mythology comes multiple stories/events that contradict eachother. I'm still impressed at how KOTOR 2 got an official update for mod, widescreen, and controller support. I hope even more old SW games get this type of treatment.

I'm still impressed at how KOTOR 2 got an official update for mod, widescreen, and controller support. I hope even more old SW games get this type of treatment. That's not entirely true. It was actually announced that the EU would be renamed "Legends" and put to the side in-favor of new material leading up to Episode VII. They haven't officially declared the EU to be completely out from the Star Wars universe...just not part of Disney's new canon, as has already been stated. This doesn't necessarily mean that the events that all occur before the Movies are no longer connected. Though, it does mean that they've specifically chosen to introduce new stories not related to previously-established EU events that occur after the Movies (such as the Thrawn books, etc.). As for the animated series (for the most part), new comics/books, Episode VII, and so on...they do seem to be ignoring the EU material from before the Movies (if only because those events have little to nothing to do with the stories established in the new material). ^ To be fair? Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 6 does also bring in Darth Bane (albeit not the true individual)...which may convince some that the Books about him are still canon. In any case, they've actually thrown in some references to Legends in some later episodes of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars & a couple in the Rebels animated series. (One example being the Mandalorian Neo-Crusader helmet seen in the background in the episode where Ahsoka is captured and has to fight Trandoshan hunters) Guess who was also involved in the official update (besides LucasArts)? ...Disney Interactive.

Forgot to post this earlier... My favorite music piece, from KotOR II. None other than Darth Sion's theme, which also serves as the bgm for the main menu.

Didn't the first KOTOR do something similar by using the player character's theme for the main menu or character creation theme? I remember hearing it in the menus and at a few important story moments.

Revan's theme ("The Old Republic") was used on the Character Creation screen for KotOR, and the Jedi Exile's theme ("The Sith Lords") was used in KotOR II: TSL's Character Creation screen. I'll post one of them up now:

Nice. Just wanted to make sure it was an actual thing in the game and not just something I vaguely remember reading about during my teenage years.

Didn't you read all the news articles about SW:TOR when it was first announced? That game is supposed to be KOTOR 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12! Just like how George Lucas vaguely planned 12 Star Wars movies that were totally different from the ones we actually got! But yeah, I am not amused with the story details I've heard from SW:TOR. Though I do want to check it out for myself when I get a dedicated gaming PC.

Huh. I missed those details on the wiki page. Didn't notice them the first time I looked. I think they were under some sort of "show more" thing, but now they're just there. But still, we did it Galamoth! We salvaged everything from KOTOR 3!
