As far as we know (which we were aware of this example), it's just this small store in Chinatown, New York City.

Please be advised for all, this is passing on something from Angel-Corlux, the brand manager from the publisher - there is a very large "day zero" patch for RotN that is necessary for the game to be in its best playable and stable state, of about 5-6 gb. If you do acquire the game somehow with street date breaking retailers etc, it is advised you not play, review etc until the release patch is available for a true impression of the game experience.

You all may recall the bug Iga was talking about in the last update from him. This would address that and similar things, mostly beyond what we know, with a content update that's about 1/4 of the launch size of the game.

And yes, they are being dealt with by 505.

I don't blame 505 for someone breaking the street date, but what's with that large day 1 patch? it's bad enough there's staggered content, is that patch just for the systems that get it on the 18th or with the week long delay for the Switch version does that version have to deal with it as well? the Switch doesn't exactly have a lot of storage space to spare

It's going to happen, start bracing yourself. If there's not videos up within a day, I'll have to reevaluate everything I know about people and the Internet.

It's on the stores though, not the publishers. It is unreasonable to demand that a logistics system having to get copies to stores all over the world should be expected to get them to each store on the exact date of release.

It really should not be too much to ask that stores honor their part. Wouldn't be surprised if there's legal issues for the stores coming up as well, and I'm kind of hoping this store won't be getting any more partnerships from 505.

Oh boy, I can only imagine the comments in the KS page right now. That place has been a war zone for months now, but after this it must've completely turned into hell.

This is something that 505 and Iga really didn't need happening right now, with all the backlash from the backer-exclusive DLC debacle still going strong. But then again, I have zero sympathy for 505 Games as they do deserve some of the backlash, so my sentiments go to Iga who doesn't deserve any of it. Getting his name dragged down because of some arguably sh*t decisions made by the publisher sucks.

BUT. As much as I dislike 505 Games, this isn't on them this time. This was a major dick move by some two bit store who couldn't respect the street date and wanted to cash in on a highly anticipated game. So any animosity towards 505 would be completely misguided this time. But hey, haters gonna hate and you can be sure the KS page will reflect that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I can't speak for this specific case, but in a lot of cases patches are not just adding the downloaded space to your storage, but rather they are essentially swapping out old (possibly large) files with new ones, going for easier patching over minimizing download size. So the result is often not that much larger than it was initially.
