Wonder if the other story he considers unfinished could be the novel that takes place after dawn of sorrow following Julius' apprentice, Curtis Lang. He did supervise that novel. It would be interesting if so following Curtis Lang with the Holy Whip/ Undead Killer and Michelle Danasty and her crossbow/silver arrows (either as an extra character or in a partner role like in PoR) take on Count Orlox trying to take the role as DarkLord after Soma refused the role.
Just a thought. Everyone already knows about and wants Julius and the Demon Castle War of 1999, but just curious what the 2nd unfinished episode he was referring to could be.

Or perhaps I guess he could be referring to the story about the Belmont family's loss pf the legendary whip, the Vampire Killer, after Richter.

Honestly I think it's pretty lame that they cornered him into these questions and made it about Castlevania when this was an interview for Bloodstained. This often happens: one source does a full interview about something, some other site cherry-picks something juicy out of it and shares that as the news itself, making it about what they want instead of what the person interviewed thought they were participating in. Here's the full original thing: gematsu.com/2019/06/bloodstained-ritual-of-the-night-interview-with-producer-koji-igarashi-at-bitsummit-7-spiritsSo as not to mislead people, I think the above should the article we're actually talking about/in the first post and title. This really isn't "Iga is trying to go back to Castlevania: the article".

IGA said he wanted to make a game around Quincy during the production of Portrait of Ruin. The fact he's so open and candid about the series shows he still cares for it. Now, if that lines up with what the current, unnamed Castlevania producer is fine with, that would be pretty cool, but I have an assumption Konami's already making a Castlevania game without trying to contact IGA.

Foffy might be on the right track for the second game, but it doesn't seem obvious to me. I only remember him talking about the 1999 game all the time. Now, the way he introduced Saint Germain in Curse of Darkness seemed totally random and underdeveloped (though intriguing), so maybe that relates to the missing game--or maybe it was supposed to be implied that Saint Germain is a key player in the 1999 game? I don't recall.
...The 1999 game idea always felt forced to me in order to justify Aria of Sorrow's existence, and I wasn't ever sold on it as a concept. Given how the bigger ideas of World War II and portraits were handled in Portrait of Ruin, I'm not sure it'd even turn out as advertised.
Regardless, yeah, this was just part of an interview. A side question. Personally, I don't think it's a prerequisite that IGA needs to be involved with the potential future of Castlevania, no offense. There are a number of legendary entries that didn't involve him--like Dracula's Curse, Super Castlevania IV, Bloodlines--and even among those there were different directors and staff members. What Castlevania needs is not to try to copy IGA's approach to it and mirror Bloodstained but innovate on its own terms. That's what I believe, anyway. Lords of Shadow wasn't the right answer, IMO, and neither is an approach like Dark Souls, but that doesn't mean the right answer isn't out there. (Off the top of my head, if you refined Simon's Quest's macro structure, added in the traversal variety of Super Castlevania IV with the whip, and had the tight and bold action set pieces of Bloodlines, you'd be well on your way to something interesting in the 2D realm. For 3D, I start with Castlevania 64 and start sanding away all the rough edges while building in more variety with modern technological assets.) It'll be interesting to see if Konami's new Castlevania that's been rumored since last year appears at this year's E3. Like, if not now, when?

This is all worst case scenario, but I don't think he should fully come back to Konami. If anything, he should work as a contractor. Also, a game about Quincy? Sure, but I better get a 1999 game IF he does want to go back to Konami for Castlevania.

Yeah, the original article has that question being asked in a much better context. And I definitely do see if by some miracle they'd ask him back for the 1999 game it'd be as a contractor.

So it was clickbait then. Sorry about that everyone. I wouldn't say it's clickbait. Remember, Konami is using much of IGA's canon with Grimoire of Souls, so they've already announced games continuing the world and timeline he made. Whether or not Konami touches those two gaps with Quincy Morris and Julius Belmont is still a question mark. The fact they're even going back to IGA's canon after the reboot is surprising in itself. My assumption is the fact the series has a producer, this person's been involved with the Netflix show and the Anniversary Collection, and a rumor from a known leaker that Konami wants to actually "counter" Bloodstained all make me believe they're planning a more traditional game. For all I know it could just be an adaptation of the Netflix show. Still wouldn't make it clickbait.

So far as Konami hiring back IGA, yeah that's not gonna happen, contractor or no, Konami forced IGA to quit by putting him on dead end projects, it was a practice they used with several employee's to force them to quit so they didn't actually have to fire them. Which is why IGA can safely say "Sure I'd go back and work for them if they asked." He knows that's never gonna happen besides for the time being he doesn't have any time to work for Konami he has his own company now to keep going and making new games the only way it would work is if ArtPlay took over all development duties. (which considering that I don't even know if Konami still has decent talent anymore wouldn't be a stupid idea if Konami was serious about it.)
That's actually a good thing though, I love IGA's games but Castlevania needs to reboot and go in a new direction, this way if Konami decides to do another game we get the best of both worlds, IGA doing his thing and Konami making a new Castlevania. (eventually)

I kinda worry. If Konami sees this and likes it, rehires him, will bloodstained die off because iga went back to castlevania? I really hope not, plus Konami already screwed him over once, what is to stop them from doing it again? Well, to clarify: I think he's referring to ArtPlay being subcontracted by Konami to work on a Castlevania. He's also said we'd love to make an actual Metroid game, but that doesn't mean Nintendo would hire him - they'd hire his company. Unbeknownst to most gamers, pretty much every non-AAA game made in Japan (and some AAA games, if you count those done by Tose) is outsourced by publishers to some nameless, uncredited developer. This has changed somewhat in recent years, but only in as much as some of the developers have become famous in their own right. That said, even relatively big-name developers sometimes undertake clandestine development, which I personally find fascinating. Anyway, I don't think it's been mentioned in this thread, but forgive me if otherwise. The two episodes he's referring to are the 1999 episode, with Julius as the main character, and the one that explains why the Belmonts couldn't use Vampire Killer in the 1940s, when Portrait of Ruin takes place (and maybe during Ecclesia, also? My memory's vague on this). Also, I don't get the impression that there was as much bad blood between IGA and Konami as there was between Konami and Hideo Kojima. IGA left because he couldn't work on the kind of games he wanted to; Kojima left because of actual, mutual hate.

I'm sure even IGA outsourced a few projects while being at Konami. I believe The Dracula X Chronicles, Judgment, Adventure ReBirth, and Harmony of Despair were all external projects.
The question, of course, goes back to Konami: do they care for the types of games IGA is known for? Do they care for that period of Castlevania? Do they care about making games at all?
