If the new demo videos are accurate, the hidden map room on the Minerva was kept in a lesser state in the newest video. That was pretty shocking to me, but there must be a reason for it. Also, the wood textures (and treasure chest textures) aren't as nice and the wood-and-nail patchwork pieces are gone, but maybe it was about conserving memory...What do you think?
EDIT: Updated images to reflect 2016, 2018, and 2019 builds, in that order:
None of this is the end of the world, but I did like some parts of the earlier visuals better, personally.

RichterB Like yourself I'm hoping that the team will make the decision to improve upon some of the wood textures and other assets in the Galleon Minerva stage. It's the first area the player will be exposed to so it should make a good first impression. The first screenshot you posted is from the 2016 build which was developed by Inti Creates so I would expect that to look better than the latter screenshot which still retains the assets created by DICO. Way Forward did a fantastic job of improving upon the 2018 build which isn't pictured above (maybe someone can post a picture for comparison purposes) by making improvements to lighting and color changes of key assets but as far as I can tell they didn't make any significant changes to DICO's assets in terms of texture detail at least as of today's build.

I added the 2018 image you noted in the original post. I thought about doing that originally, but didn't have the time. Anyway, there they are. There's no doubt the lighting is more dynamic, yes. But you bring up something I didn't know. You're saying that assets made by Inti Creates were unable to be used once they left?

Correct, either for legal or technical reasons. I'm not trying to bash DICO with my post, if it weren't for them this project wouldn't be as close to completion as it is today, but there's clearly a difference between the 2016 and 2018 build as can be observed by the screenshots you've posted and there's a good reason why 505 went the extra mile to bring Way Forward on board.
The good news is that the game is looking better with each new build and I think with a little more detailing on some key assets the Minerva could be a sight to behold even if it isn't the same look we had in 2016.

If that's correct, it's the first I've heard of it. I think tagging Angel-Corlux would be wise for that: were Inti Creates' assets scrapped for new DICO ones? I think it was rather a conscious change for some reason or lighting choices. I did like the original room more myself, but I'd admit I have no idea where the green light was from. edit: And that's pretty much the one only room I can think of I'd feel that way about, as I'd imagine the rest of you guys as well

Interesting. Yeah, the first one definitely had more detailed assets, but given the way the new build looks in motion, I have very few complaints. If they can touch up some of the textures before release, fine. If not, I'm more than pleased with what I've seen as of late.

(A crumpled piece of paper instead of a map isn't very appealing, and screen borders are more uniform/manufactured-looking without the patchwork, but maybe new assets are still being developed if the old ones were lost.) The lighting is more appropriate in the new demo overall and some of the extra textures since the 2018 demo are very nice.
I will say, though, there has been a few other trade-offs it seems like over all this time. The outside storm on the Minerva felt more fierce in the 2016 demo with the angry wind/mist and clouds, and the textures on the supporting ropes and weathering/breakage on the wood and such seemed more defined/natural. The foreground rope now looks like a steel cable in 2019, for example. (That being said, everything looks more like night in the new 2019 demo.)
None of this should reflect on the new tower area, though, which I am really digging a lot. I just have mixed emotions about some of the give and take that's gone on with the Minerva. (I had some related comments about the Minerva's platforms: bloodstained.forums.net/post/64912/thread and lack of pushing animation for that once-pesky crate: bloodstained.forums.net/post/64892/thread). But the overall trend is an amazing game regardless.
