Right? this is great news. My brothers won't have a reason to complain about this particular thing that has been bothering them for ever in games like pokemon (although i actually find some of the attack names extremely hilarious " ascuas, falsotortazo, abocajarro" wtf does that mean?) I remember playing Final Fantasy IX in full spanish but it was strangely neutral or i don't really know how to describe it but it really didn't feel that different from Latin spanish and many of the jokes made perfect sense and were easy to understand. whereas the spanish version of FFX...well, i was constantly scratching my head. Placaje (Tackle) is one of my personal favorites (10/10). Although is an accurate translation, for some Mexican and Latin American Pokémon fans sounded alien and hilarious, because we didn't get used to the Spanish spoken in Spain. This is why I prefer to play my videogames in English. I remember the beautiful Advance Wars Spanish translation: Correct way: ¡Que no cunda el pánico! Translation: Don't panic! or "Don't let the panic spread!" (but translated in the worst possible way, and perhaps intentionally by the translator because is a playing of words). Possible "El Chapulín Colorado" Mexican TV- Serial reference. Perhaps Nell is a big fan of "El Chapulín Colorado?" Holy fucking goddamn shit, I’ve seen it all now! An actual Chapulín Colorado reference in a Nintendo game!?!?!? How in the name of everything that is good and holy did this fascinating factoid managed to elude me all these years??? And there’s no chance that that isn’t anything other than a reference to this massively popular Mexican tv show that everyone who speaks Spanish in the America’s at least know about and most love. Of course it’s a reference! Was this Spanish translation on the actual GBA cartridge sold in the America’s? Or was it Europe/Spain exclusive? Back in those days Latin America almost never got Spanish translations for console games, let alone one specifically catered to us (the few we’d get were always straight from Spain).

Europe/Spain exclusive. My mistake, It was in Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising in which Nell expressed her passion for El Chapulin Colorado, and not in the first game. I read this curiosity years ago in the Spanish videogame website called Meristation and I think Club Nintendo (A famous now defunct official Nintendo Magazine, basically Nintendo Power for Mexico and Latin America) talked about it in one of its issues. Thanks Based and Chespirito-pilled anonymous game translator for this gem.

Thanks Based and Chespirito-pilled anonymous game translator for this gem. It figures it was European exclusive. Back then games almost never came with Spanish translations in the Americas at all. What makes this extra strange is that I was never under the impression that Spain was a big fan of Chespirito. Have I been wrong all these years? Mexico, US Latinos, and Latin America are of course a given but Spain? I’m guessing at least big enough that a localiation team for a game that’s only to be sold in Europe thought they should add a Chapulin reference.

For localization, this is the most recent info I have:
Text & Menus: English (American & British), French, Italian, German, Spanish, Russian, Brazilian Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean. Voice Acting: Japanese and English
For Spanish, specifically, I believe it's LATAM Spanish.

If the game does well enough, the goal is to make Bloodstained into an ongoing series of games. And obviously not to go back - now that you can SURELY afford to, given Nintendo's buy-in - and keep any promises that were made back when you were fishing for startup funding on Kickstarter, of course.

505 wasn't attached to the game during KS, though.

That's great!

That's great! I wonder if Question meant we’re getting two different English text localizations (with tiny variations like “color” -> “colour”) or that we’re getting one English version that’s designed for US and UK users that’s doots a mixture of both. Is it common for games to have two English localizations? I’ve never come across one but I also haven’t been actively seeking them. And yeah I’m very surprised that this game is getting practically double the languages we were promised in the Kickstarter. All this time I thought they’d be sticking to the 6 they announced on day one. Something tells me this has everything to do with their publisher 505 helping out and for that I’m glad. Amazing all around.

What do you mean by “Nintendo’s buy-in”? Are we still harping on Iga for taking the opportunity to be featured on the Nintendo Direct that got them instant exposure to millions of gamers beyond the select few that post on the official forums every other day? Because if it’s not about that then I’m confused. I trust you should know by now that Bloodstained needs to sell way more than to just the 60,000 who backed this project in order for it to be a success and get a sequel. Either way your endless whining doesn’t cease to amaze me.

These folks are understandably distraught, and conflict between us won't help to solve problems either way.
That said, I don't know anything about any Nintendo "buy-in" either. Yes, we were featured on Nintendo Direct, but aside from publicity I don't think Nintendo is offering any resources to the project directly. Angel might be able to say more, but yeah, getting featured on Nintendo Direct was a way for IGA to get the word out about the game to as many people as possible. It wouldn't help us with anything else. It'd be nice if it did, but that's the breaks :/

You say there is no collusion with Nintendo but why is it that only the Switch gets an exclusive platform-branded slipcover with its release of Bloodstained: CotM's "Classic Edition." Don't think we'll be fooled by your trickery for even a second.

Oh, my bad, I didn't realize that absolutely anyone could get to have their game featured by Nintendo Direct for free. That's really nice of them and I'm sure there's absolutely no benefit to Nintendo for having done that.

I think that Nintendo knows that this game will do well on the Switch and that it's in their own best interest to help promote it as a game available on its platform. Wouldn't read anything more into it than that though.

That's really nice of them and I'm sure there's absolutely no benefit to Nintendo for having done that. I honestly don’t even know what you’re arguing here. Nintendo is not a charity. Of course they won’t promote a game if there’s nothing of benefit for them, the fact that they agreed or decided to include Bloodstained is nothing but good news for this project! We don’t know if there was a monetary transaction in order to get Bloodstained into the Direct, if I had to guess I’d say “no”, but what if there was? Artplay/505 clearly must have a small/decent/big pile of money earmarked for marketing and pushing this game and this would qualify. Just the English and Japanese official YouTube version of the Nintendo Direct are at a cumulative 3.4 million views. That doesn’t count Twitch, the mirrors, the individual videos with just the Bloodstained trailer, the thousands of streamers hosting their own Directs, etc. How was this decision/push to get featured in this video anything but brilliant? How can anyone argue against it? I don’t understand.

Yeah, Hyugakojiro's right. Remember, Curse of the Moon sold over 100k copies, and 56% of those--fifty-six percent, a majority!--were on the switch. Nintendo probably thinks Bloodstained would do very well on their consoles, has particular appeal to Nintendo fans, and might help sell more Switches, and I believe they're quite right to think so. Thus, allowing Bloodstained to be advertised on their direct is, from their perspective, a way of getting more sales. I don't think IGA and his team paid them, but both parties expect to get something out of the arrangement. It's understandable.

If there was any transaction I’d bet my house it would’ve been Iga to Nintendo since Bloodstained clearly needs Nintendo way way way way WAY more than Nintendo needs Bloodstained (Nintendo doesn’t need BS, in fact). This was marketing and whoever help make this happen, I’d wager it was the publisher 505, they should be applauded, not lambasted.

Even if they paid money for the segments it still would have been a good move marketing wise. Certainly a lot better than launching a MN9 style ad that ends up offending a large segment of the potential audience.
Where else are you going to get comparable exposure and at what price?
