When I tried to load the game for the first time I got this error while subsequent attempts to load gave me I'm using parallel desktop lite to run windows on a macbook.

Since that hardware isn't really supported it's going to be difficult to troubleshoot that issue. Is it just Bloodstained with this problem or can you run other Unreal Engine 4 games on that setup?

That's largely why I thought it was worth bringing up -- in case someone else with a similar setup encounters similar problems. I've tried verifying the game and deleting and redownloading it, but continue to get the second error. I'll keep trying different things and report back.

Since it's the same exact issue after downloading the files anew, I can only imagine a few reasons. There might be others. Those issues are:
The files located in a steam database are flawed. I don't see this as likely as we might hear more people complaining on more common computer setups.
The files were corrupted or lost during download in similar manners both times. Again I see this as unlikely. There's too many variables to make this repeatable easily.
Your setup (hardware, the way you're running the operating system) isn't compatible with the game. I see this as most likely because your computer isn't being used the way an ordinary user would and the demo is very much a buggy beta version.

I found a way to get it to run -- I re-downloaded the demo to a different directory than the suggested steam folder, and it's now running fine. Sharing in case someone else encounters a similar issue!

I'm glad you figured it out. That's incredibly strange though. I can't help but wonder what caused it. Permissions to read and write, but not execute within the parent folder? Regardless, enjoy the demo
