At August, 2007, a certain famous developer (John Carmack) from a certain famous company (Id Software) said that a certain famous franchise (Doom) had a new game in development (Doom 4). After several promises, in 2009 Id Software was sold to ZeniMax Media, parent company of Bethesda Softworks. At 2011, the game was still not finished and it was being developed on a new scripting language, but at 2012 the team announced that they would make the game a reboot. Carmack left Id software at 2013. Still at 2013, Kotaku revealed that Doom 4 was trapped in development hell. Basically, the game was suffering from mismanagement and development actually restarted from scratch in 2011. The game was released only on 2016, nine years after the development started. That, coming from a big company with dozens of experienced employees. It was considered the best game in the whole franchise and a new one is on the works to be released on 2019. What i'm trying to say with this is what some mentioned before: delays happens. Sometimes we know about them, sometimes we don't. And a delay is not always bad, as we can see by what resulted in Doom 2016.
Also, that happened with Bloodstained as well. They never commented much (probably to not shame anyone) but if you read interviews and some information, you can tell that Bloodstained's development basically restarted from scratch on 2017, when they realized Inti Crates didn't had enough experience with Unreal 4 to deliver such a huge game on time. It was stated that most of the game had to be basically remade when they hired new programmers and developers and canned Inti Creates. If you think about that, Bloodstained is in active development only since 2017. Two years has basically been wasted due to what i mentioned above. I'm not saying this isn't anyone's fault, i'm just stating what usually happens at the gaming industry.
And about the Vita Port, i think i don't need to remind people about a certain game known as Final Fantasy Versus 13, that started development on Playstation 3 and ended on Playstation 4...and that, some years AFTER a certain game of the same franchise (Final Fantasy 13) started it's development on Playstation 2 and ended on Playstation 3.

Most of the time, I agree with the speculation from dareka about updates, but this time, to me, "a year" seems like too big a window for a project that has been in development for 3 years straight. Time estimation is rather meaningless in the initial development stage because there are so many things could happen. But if the main game is completed, it shouldn't be hard to estimate the time window for polishing and adjustment, including consuming all the feedbacks, optimizing for a specific console, etc. etc, since there shouldn't be much to be changed, unless: 1. They need to modify the game's basic building blocks for some critical problems.I highly doubt this possibility though, anyone that has ever been in software development knows this only happens when the manager knows nothing and doesn't care about the development at all. Or, more simply, they haven't finished the main game yet. 2. The alpha demo released this year is so poorly received that they have to redo a lot of things from the ground up.The game is finished, but it's not people wanted. 3. The main game is not completed yet.I hate to say it, but this is my guess right now. All in all, it's not about the "accuracy" of the estimation, it's about whether the product manager has a confident schedule of the product. The "2019" statement, however, is not a positive sign. As for the delay itself, I'm personally fine with 2019 (or even longer as long as the project keeps going & has the funds), but I do agree that we should know more about the progress on the project, at least right now, all the vague statements would only cause backlash on the project, which we don't want to see. As a fan and a backer myself, I would love to hear anything about the project, not only triumphs but also difficulties. About Vita, it's not surprising at all, but I seriously doubt anything that has been done about that platform, including the engine port.
I can't help but think there's more going on behind the scenes as well. Angel Corlux said in the Duel Screens Nintendo podcast that if they delayed the game again they would give a certain release date for sure and say "sometime in 2019 or 2020". It's exactly because I dug the guy and think he's real that am holding him to his word.

This is an explanation I can resonate with, but this explanation shouldn't come from you or me or anyone else, it should come from devs. If IGA says in the video "sorry we can't give you a more specific release window because our team is still very small and might not have enough resources to meet the deadline", I might not have any doubt at the beginning. I can understand that sometimes vagueness is the necessity, but not on something important like this. Pure Miriam also got a good point on the communication side of things, we really need more information right now, so more updates please...? Yeah, you obviously have a point there. One of the things this project's shown, I think, is that there's a certain gap in how the devs expect the fans to react, versus how they actually react. Some examples... A) They were really afraid of announcing the first delay, with the developer switch, and fans were like " cool, take your time." B) They decided to delay the demo for only a week, but they let us know the original release date and we were like " uhm, no, you need to tell us beforehand." C) They decided not to mention that lots of their shaders & textures were not included in the demo. And we were like " WTF the game looks worse than before!" D) They announce the delay to 2019 reaction is split down the middle. But I'm willing to bet they might have been a bit surprised that some of the negative reaction was because of the vagueness of the date - they might have been expecting more people to be upset, but at the delay itself, versus the vagueness of the date. And lets not forget that people weren't thrilled at the fact that there was no release date announced during E3 - I'll bet not everyone saw that coming, either. I once chided Angel-Corlux for teasing a "deluge" of information that never materialized - well, I was trying to offer constructive feedback, because you shouldn't get people's hopes up and then not deliver... and I think that with the release date, that's their primary fear: getting it wrong. So they say "OK, we know it'll be delayed, but we know it'll be ready in 2019, so lets just say 2019. The important thing is to let them know there is going to be a delay as soon as we're sure of the delay (not making the same mistake of staying quiet until the last minute, like with the demo)." ... Well, turns out fans would like a more specific release window, or a more concrete reason as to why they can't provide a specific window. They might think, at this point, that giving more specifics will satisfy a few people but not convince others ... which I think is a real possibility. Who knows. Whatever the case, both 505 and Artplay are new at this Kickstarter thing. Well, everyone is, really. Everyone's more used to the "silent publisher" model of PR management. And sometimes, when the community staff has broken the mold, the results have not always been good (see: deluge of information). So to me it's not surprising they tend to be conservative (from our point of view) when talking about the project. Personally? I think fans would be far more receptive to even more communication with devs. They might react better to a more detailed explanation of the problems the devs are dealing with, what features require more time, etc... but devs have never shared this information before, and there's always a gamble when you air your "dirty laundry"... and at the end of the day, I'm not the one responsible for the project, so I can speculate freely on this without repercussions. What I would urge the devs, Angel-Corlux , Question , Mana , is to look at all of our different reactions - which I've no doubt they're doing - and consider whether or not there's anything that can be shared on the status of the project without running the risk of giving the wrong impression or causing the team to backtrack on their promises... which is way easier said than done, but just discussing where some of the changes are happening and why, what some of the better suggestions were... just try to keep people assured that the game's on track ... I think people would be OK with a certain degree of vagueness, so long as there's lots of conversation happening. Anyway, two more cents.

In case anyone interested has not heard, the refund policy for Vita backers with multiple copies in an unlimited tier has been updated.
Per an official Kickstarter comment: Hi everybody—we’ve heard complaints from collectors who backed at an unlimited multi-game tier ($125, $175, $250, $300, & $500) to get a Vita physical, but could only claim a partial refund since they had also selected a non-Vita digital copy of the game.
After some internal discussion with Artplay and the other companies responsible for the Kickstarter campaign, we have updated the refund policy: in addition to the existing refund offer from Update #72, unlimited tiers with a physical Vita version selected will now be eligible for a full tier refund.
We apologize that this policy wasn’t in force at the time of the update. If you’re a Vita physical backer who needs help claiming or adjusting a refund, please email orders@fangamer.com

Well put as always dareka . Sure, something I consider important is not something that another backer would care at all. That's the hard part of communication I think, everyone wants to know what they want to know which means basically, well, everything. We all know that's not possible, so... I really appreciate what our community management team has done so far, but there are more challenges ahead (or right now).

I am fine with this, I prefer the game to have more quality. There are still many games I have to play on Switch that I just don't have time for, and now I got some time while waiting for Bloodstained. I wish SotN would be somehow released on Switch as well. Fun idea, not sure if it's possible tho, what with SotN being on PS. Not even VC can bring it on that I'm aware of. :/

You may not have a shot at a backer edition again for something you once really cared to fund. Don't let anger or a stint of disappointment rob you of something you would otherwise enjoy. Just my .02 on that.

Hmmmm. Mr. Welldone, if address information can still be altered, maybe you could "buy" someone's no-longer-wanted can't-be-Vita backer edition and set it to the form you want instead? Not sure if anyone really thinks going all secondary market is a good idea, though.

I did not quite understand, but what prevents to sell on PS Vita only a digital copy of the game? They don't want to. There's nothing actually preventing it as far as I know. The digital store for the PSP is still technically functional, just not fully supported. I imagine you'll still be able to access the Vita store for years to come. It's probably just that the game's Vita sales would suffer because of the lack of support.

I wish people would stop bringing up that stale Miyamoto quote whenever a delay is announced. I know it's in good faith (and I think a delay was due in this case so I have zero problems about it) but that quote is ludicrous and seeing it repeated over and over and over again like it's gospel just because it's by Miyamoto is killing me There are situations and situations. There are rushed games that are obviously incomplete at launch and leave a sour taste in the customer's mouth (FF XV, Street Fighter V, the list is long) and there are extensively delayed games that turned out to be masterpieces in the end (the last update from Enter the Gungeon comes to mind, and I also hope Bloodstained will be part of the group). BUT there are immensely delayed games which, despite this fact, were ranging from horrible to disappointing nonetheless (Duke Nukem Forever anyone? The Last Guardian was plagued by a myriad technical issues despite being in development for ages, Death's Gambit has been a massive disappointment for me, and I'm not even bringing up everyone's favorite spiritual successor because honestly it's tiresome to hear about it), as there are terribly rushed game that are still masterpieces anyway (Soul Reaver was delayed multiple times but then hastily released cutting a good chunk of content, and it's still a classic; as is Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines). So yeah that quote may be true in SOME cases but please just don't bring it up everytime something like this occurs like it's the ultimate truth. I mean no offense especially towards Pure Miriam who's the poster in this case but I just had to voice this thought.

The text of the update calls it "this month's update." Should we expect anything more in August, or is this the update?
