This is a staple of Igavanias since Dawn of Sorrow, Harmony of Despair (online game) and was also in the 2016 E3 demo of Bloodstained.
Example:
After pressing attack, a moment later you press backdash+down, then press attack, rinse, repear. This allows for more advanced attacking techniques.
I don't know why, but it's been removed in the backer demo.
We can still backdash cancel into more backdashes, but can't cancel attacks the same way anymore.
To me, it just isn't the same without this. It added a whole new layer of attacking for Igavanias.
Considering that jump attack cancelling can be done now by just furiously pressing attack and jump at the same time, I don't see why bdc can't be added back in. I killed Vepar in a few seconds by jump attack cancelling with the gun+hp rounds.
PLEASE BRING BACK BDC.

As someone who played the DS trilogy and spent hundreds of hours playing online co-op in Harmony of Despair, I approve of this.
I'm so used to attack cancelling that it kinda feels wrong not to have it in an igavania game.

I'm honestly really glad that infinite backdash cancelling isn't a thing in this demo. It wrecks the flow of the game, in my opinion, if the fastest way to play is to backdash cancel, or double jump cancel through the entire thing.

BDC has never been a required skill to complete an igavania, it shouldn't break the flow of the game

I'm very glad it's not in this demo. In my opinion that makes the competitive runs more fun. But even though BDC is gone, the repetitive techniques you talk about aren't. You can still jump, attack twice, backdash cancel and repeat. Also from AANXAAN's latest speedrun, lots of jumping with 2 handed weapons
Unless there's a complete overhaul on combat to remove those kinda attacks, repetitive techniques in competitive runs will still be a thing. I found BDC was the most fun to pull off though, wasn't too complicated, you just needed the right rhythm.

You don't even need to backdash to cancel jump attacks. You can literally spam jump+attack quickly and Miriam will just furiously hop attack repeatedly. Though it's better with fast attacks, not stuff like two handed swords.
BDC had a zen-like rhythm, and I found the most fun way to attack. With it being gone, I find jump attack spamming a poor substitute.
I do like the new backdash cancelling into more backdashes. Miriam flies through levels now.

With BDC being in the DS Castlevanias, Harmony of Despair, and the first backer demo, I thought IGA was keeping it in for a good reason. I wonder what changed

Yeah, just use weapons with fast animations like daggers or katanas for best effect.
I killed Vepar with the gun and hp ammo in literal seconds with jump cancelling. If it was 5 seconds, I'd be surprised. I haven't finished the demo because of work. I wonder how fast Zan will go down this way.
