It's hard to explain, so, i'm going to use pictures.
If you enter on the menu and move for the first time (since you entered in the menu) at a food item, the "First time Bonus" window shows the bonus as a common white number. Move it again and you can see it as a blue number with the upper arrow.
It seems you can do that with any food (i tested with two) and it can be reproduced every single time.
