I just noticed that the girls of castlevania are always dressed "proper" unlike most of the video game girls, that are supposed to be bad ass, but look like cornerstone... workers? I don't know why I never noticed this before. But all the playable characters in the csatlevania games were properly dressed. The sexiest looking one was Shanoa and that was only because the absorption glyph on her back.
Mind you I am not talking about the succubus or other "sexy" demons in the castle. All the female heroes were fully clothed... actually the most scantily clad character was Isaac from CoD
Can you guys think of a scantily clad female hero (good guy) in castlevania (after Iga took over)

I don't think IGA had much to do with that pachislot game, though I don't either, but he was still employed by Konami at that point, so I wasn't sure whether it was worth mentioning or not. Then I remembered how ridiculous some of the character shots were. XD |

Koji Igarashi was involved with Castlevania Judgment, though. (Not necessarily an "Igavania") None of the characters in Castlevania Judgment were designed by traditional Castlevania designers. they brought in a guest artist, the person who draws for the Death Note Manga, to redesign the characters for the game. Everyone received major design overhauls for the game, some were great, like Eric's or Shanoa's, but others were kinda ... not ... But yeah I have to say out of all the female character designs in the Castlevania series, Maria Renards designs were my favorite (sans her Judgment one. it was one of the games bad designs). I just love how elegant and simple her designs are, she expels an aura of innocence and clarity all at once, I love it <3 |

It's kinda how like back in the day of the NES people didn't really expect women to be badasses. They did expect them to be beautiful damsels in distress. But low and behold Samus Aran from the Metroid series came out and told everyone it's not all about men.
Now some people consider badass women to be either in revealing clothing while being awesome at what they do or like Castlevania, be fully clothed and still be awesome. Either way, I like it better clothed. That way, you can't sex-ify them I guess is the term. It also shows that heroines don't need to come in revealing clothing. Kinda one of the reasons why I love Charlotte from Portrait of Ruin. Her attitude and cuteness goes with what she wears. Put that same thing, but into say something where her stomach is showing and possibly makes her butt look huge and it just doesn't work.

Sex-appeal is just a factor unrelated to everything else. It doesn't enhance or take away from anything else IMO. I think it's best to have both, not artificially make up some notion that every girl is sexy or not.
I also like to point out that videogame men are often pretty hunky too, with like 18 packs and muscles thicker than my neck.

I also like to point out that videogame men are often pretty hunky too, with like 18 packs and muscles thicker than my neck. Men being large and muscular arent meant to be sexually appealing for women, they are meant to be Power Fantasies for men who play as them. Characters like Kratos from God of War, and Batman from the Arkham games, are meant to make the men who play the games feel powerful and unstoppable. Women, for the most part, want nothing to do with men as large and brutal as they are. |
