Hello everyone! I am very excited to have been able to finally play the game myself!
I finished the demo now and I do enjoy it greatly. Feels like i'm playing Castlevania all over again, with the controls being instantly recognisable and easy to grasp, the cool monster designs, the atmosphere and best of all, the music!
There are some things I noticed about the game that bothered me during the gameplay. I'll list the main points I noticed here, i'll add more later on in future playthroughs if I find any:
- Minor one to start off with, could entirely just be me, but it felt like the hitbox on some of the weapons were off. Is it intentional that some of the longer range weapons like the Whips or the Spears go right through enemies that are too close to you? I dunno, like I said it's a minor complaint and can be played around but I wonder if it was implemented consciously.
- The talking scenes with their lip movements, which is an oft repeated complaint as far as i've seen. For some characters like Johannes and Dominique, it's passable and i'd not complain it, but Miriam? Dear god, girl, how do you even words like that? Voice acting is definitely top notch though, big kudos there! Definitely did NOT let out a small inner squee as I heard David Hayter as Zangetsu. But really, all voice acting is great from what i've seen so far. Even if a Japanese voice option was available, i'm not sure i'd want to use it for once!
- The village before the castle, is it meant to not have any music or is that an error? It's bit weird to not hear anything but ambience or other noises in that particular part of the game and stood out to me, what with the soundtrack having been really good in the ship before and then inside the castle immediately after!
- Propably the biggest bother from gameplay perspective to me, talking to the various characters feels like it takes unnecessarily long with the talking scene loading in, then fading out. Why is this an issue? It happens when you go to the shops or accept quests too! That's completely unneeded in my opinion. Worst of all, when you accept quests from Lindsay, instead of being able to just accept all quests one after another rapid-fire like, you first accept the quest, the talking scene fades in, she gives you her briefing, then it fades out and you have to talk to her again to accept the next quest! That will be so irritating if in the final product some characters would have a big bunch of quests and you need to spend 5-10 minutes just accepting them all. Shouldn't it, instead of going out of the conversation after the briefing, go back to the quest menu? I dunno, it'd definitely improve the flow of the gameplay if shopping and quest interactions did not take an extra few seconds for the text boxes to fade in and out. Could just be me. It's fine for story cutscenes and such but shouldn't be there for shopping unless the character has something more to say than just 'Hello Miriam'.
I am not one who can really comment much on the graphics. I see some people having picked up on certain graphical issues like trees in the background, but I just don't spot those issues myself. It works for me, I like what I see and nothing seemed egregiously out of place.
Overall i'd rate this a solid 8/10. Gonna go back to it soon and go explore all the places I missed since I stumbled on the last boss of demo by accident!
