The Good: -The environments look amazing -The Galleon boss showing up in the area prior to fighting it/her is pretty cool -The shard system works really well. I especially like the directional shard concept -Accessories and headgear showing up on Miriam as actual models is great -Difficulty is decent -The voice acting is good. Some awkward dialogue, but that's not the actors' fault -The soundtrack is good overall, although the Galleon track is super repetitive -The sheer number of weapon types is impressive
The Bad: -The character shader still looks awful. Why they went with this when it's so jarring is beyond me. None of the characters look like they belong in the dark, gothic world they're in. Same with the enemies. Stylistically, this game is a mess. Even the portraits in the castle corridors aren't all in the same art style -Getting hit while attacking doesn't cancel the attack animation, but it does cancel the hitbox/damage. That's bad. It's not noticeable on the faster weapons, but if you use something like the Claymore, you will notice it sooner or later -Miriam's idle animation just looks stupid -The mouth animations during cutscenes could use A LOT of work. Alternatively, they could've just used still images or sprites instead of 3D models with animated mouths -The whip animation is janky and too slow. I realize this isn't Castlevania and someone on the dev team (Probably IGA) said something about moving in a different direction with the whip, but I much prefer the Castlevania whip animations to this
Overall, it's looking to be average for an IGAvania. That's not necessarily a bad thing, as IGAvanias are good, but it's a bit disappointing that IGA would waste SotN's namesake on this when it's very clearly not SotN tier.
