I've always been a console guy, so I have very little knowledge of Steam or of computer-downloaded games. What kind of system requirements do you need? Can you easily uninstall things like Steam? And will it cause any damage to a lower-spec machine's hard drive? Also, is the demo available to people who backed at $60 for physical tier?

What kind of system requirements do you need? Bloodstained 2016 Demo had these requirements: OS: Windows 7 64-bit CPU: Intel Core i5 @ 3.3 GHz or AMD Phenom II X6 Memory: 8 GB RAM GPU: AMD Radeon HD 7790 or Nvidia GeForce GTX650TI (DirectX 11 required) Storage: 5GB available space If you're using Windows 7 The demo only works with XInput-compatible controllers. (Xbox 360 / XBox One controllers or controllers capable of emulate X-input).
We can guess that the new demo will have more or less the same requirements, if it is optimized*. I was able to run on a computer WAY LOWER than all that just fine, at max resolution, so, take these with a grain of salt.
Can you easily uninstall things like Steam? And will it cause any damage to a lower-spec machine's hard drive? Yes, you can. Install and uninstall steam is is like installing or uninstalling any program. The games you buy and own are linked to your account, not to your computer. So if you install it again, the games you bought can be freely downloaded again for you to play them. Installing and uninstalling programs do not cause any damage to a hard drive, unless it's a VERY, VERY OLD HD that already has problems or is defective. Even 10+ years old HDs work just fine if you keep installing and uninstalling programs if they are of a minimal good quality.
is the demo available to people who backed at $60 for physical tier? As far as i know, the demo is avaliable to anyone who backed at 60, regardless of options made. If it is 60 or more, the demo will be avaliable to you.
*Optimization is a process which computer games are worked around so they can smoothly run on PCs with several different configurations and settings. It's a big thing that some AAA games sometimes fails spetacularly and end up with sub-par, broken games that simply doesn't work on a chunk of their costumers.

1. The recommended specs for the Beta Backer Demo still haven't been revealed yet, to my knowledge.
2. It should be as easy as uninstalling anything else.
4. I believe so. I also backed at the $60 physical tier, so I'd be pretty bummed if it wasn't.
EDIT: Dang, I gotta start typing faster.

Pure Miriam and @autumn, thank you very much for this information. I'd like the chance to participate more actively this time around rather than just watching vids. Bummer about no keyboard control as I only have Nintendo and Sony controllers, but maybe I'll have to look into something comparable. Even so, this was very helpful. I assume the downloading and menu operation of Steam will be self-explanatory if I can work the rest out.

you can try using a Mayflash plug in play adapter for a nintendo controller. I use a Wii U pro controller on my PC. Also Logitec and Xbox 360 etc. are native supported on windows. There's probably an adapter for Sony one's too unless the game will support it.

RichterBThe 2016 Demo had keyboard control. It wasn't easy to use, but it had. You could also use other controllers on the 2016 Demo, the only thing is that they had a high potential to change the controls position and buttons. Steam is quite easy to use, yes. Just a program that works like a menu, with all the games you have / bought avaliable for you to play and they automatically updates them when needed.

Thanks. Obviously, keyboard isn't ideal anyway, I was just looking for an easy way to test the game out that I wouldn't have to invest a lot of money in since I'm likely not going to become a computer gamer. But that said, I think I've found a cheap Xbox option that might work really well for this: www.amazon.com/Rock-Candy-Wired-Controller-360-Blueberry/dp/B00M7ZJ2LY It looks like it'd be cheaper than getting an adapter for another controller.

Just to go further with what was already said: my laptop had a 1.9ghz dual core processor from Intel, no graphics card, and 8gb of RAM. it was able to handle the demo without a problem.

Key boards actually play these kinds of games just fine. Some people are REALLY not used to it and they think that because of that, anyone who prefers keyboard is an idiot. But objectively, there are no advantages to using a controller over a keyboard for these kinds of games beyond your personal tastes and what you're comfortable with. Yes in fact most 2d platformers were developed with controllers in mind, but that was just a matter of them being a hot game genre for consoles, and consoles used controllers. It didn't make controllers purely better for the game. Otherwise you would say JRPGs were better on controllers too (though most still are simply because if they have pc ports they tend to be lower quality ports that don't really put much effort into being fully customizable on keyboard or whatever).
Lots of people play bullet hell shooters on keyboards over controllers, which require FAR more precise movement and higher difficulty, so eh.
In any case. Unless things changed over the decade. xinput doesn't mean xbox input. It's actually directX input, which in fact includes keyboard and mouse. In addition, I think your playstation controller will work just fine, I think steam interprits it and 'converts' it to xinput automatically, or if not there is software that does this, see scptookit.

You can just use your DualShock 4's USB cable to plug it in, and it should work fine.

ghaleon , Overlord : I hear what you're all saying about the Sony controllers, but everything I've read on the Steam forums and related sites online seems to suggest you need an extra adapter, [sometimes questionable] 3rd-party plug-ins, or need to go through a lengthy workaround in BIOS to get a DualShock to work right on Steam (and even then it supposedly sometimes has connectivity drops for some). Plus, by the time I heard the news here about other options, I had already picked up a cheap XBox 360 controller, which from everything I've read should be plug-and-play without any fuss. (Nice to know that keyboard would probably work, too, but since I doubt IGA and Co. are primarily testing it out with a keyboard, I might as well go all in.) I may regret this, but oh well. I still appreciate all of the information. At the end of the day, I might even grow to like this whole Steam thing. In retrospect I see how it could have come in handy for me, especially with Curse of the Moon. Obviously I've known about Valve's work with it and its popularity for years, as I follow the industry closely, but I am largely a traditional gamer, so I've mostly ignored it in terms of practical usage. I mean, I think the first digital game I bought was Mega Man 9, and rarely do I go in for DLC.

But I do have one, and when I plug my DualShock 4 in, it just works. This is on Windows 10. If you're set though, then that's what matters.

you seem to be mixing up the PS3 controller (which is not supported on pc and requires workarounds to use) with the ps4 controller which is supported on pc and steam

I went ahead and got Steam up and running and loaded the 2016 demo for the first time. (How awesome to be able to go hands-on with this.) Okay, so the framerate seems to be off a little, but otherwise it functions. I decided to close a few background operations for memory purposes because it crashed the first few times I tried to open it (I assume that was went wrong). Anyway, for better or worse, I have a Six-Axis DualShock 3 PS3 controller...and that did not pick up in terms of plug-and-play. The XBOX 360 controller I mentioned before, though, that worked immediately. So I'm happy something has worked out well here. If anyone has any questions about the process, let me know, since I've gone through it now. Thanks for everything again, everybody.

Right. A PS3 pad requires Better DS3, SCP's tool kit Service or some other means whereas a PS4 controller will just sync fine with Steam + a cable.
A 360 pad does as well, so long as it's actually a wired one (play and charge kit does not establish an actual connection).
