I liked Other M. The story was awful, and it's definitely one of the worst Metroid games (though I'd argue Return of Samus and Prime Hunters were worse), but I enjoyed it for what it was. I honestly think most of the problems came from Sakamoto. Hopefully now he's through with the series.

That being said I loved Phantoon returning.

What I want to know is how Samus freaks out over Ridley and acts like a helpless woman at that point She has fought Ridley like 3 or 4 times at that point, anyone I mean anyone at that point would not be afraid of facing something you killed multiple times,if anything you would feel either or bored or pissed of seeing it over and over again and would just want to drop kick it and take out all your frustration on the thing
First time seeing Ridley,Yes I could understand samus freaking out due to her inexperience as a hunter and seeing the monster that killed and ate her parents and experience a trauma meltdown
Second time...I could understand samus being a little nervous and uneasy but at the same time she killed it before and would have a lot more confidence since she knows she can beat it
Third time...She should have no fear whatsoever of the thing, have overcome her fear totally and be confident and be thinking of how to kill this thing fast and get it done and over with
Fourth time....By now samus would be bored of seeing this damn thing and be thinking to herself "This is repetitive,I need to Get a new Rival this one is done" and then casually without effort blast the creature to bits to the point ressurection was not possible
So yeah...in that regard, many times samus was out of character for that game without a good reason

It is because she has fought him so many times that he triggers PTSD within her. Fighting a damning foe who has ruined your plans and set a course to kill the baby Metroid (which effected her in and of itself), and causes her to doubt that she in fact killed him. Returning makes it seem like he didn't die.
But the biggest thing is that (in the e-manga I think) it shows that Ridley was the cause of the annihilation of her family. And is a plague to the Zebes Chozo due to them destroying his specie... With that, having doubts of killing him and his constant return is a bit of a mindfuck... He is what destroys parts of her world. No one else really gets to make that claim.

As far as I'm concerned, Samus' characterization in Other M is basically indefensible. It's completely at odds with everything she's done in previous games and takes away from her agency and independence. It's way more problematic or offensive to me than any sexy outfit in a video game or whatever. I recognize that PTSD is a real thing but that would be something the FIRST time Samus' confronts Ridley, not the 3534123 time as in Other M. Bad game is bad (at least from a narrative/character point) and the sooner we get a regular Metroid game to wash the stink of Other M away, the better IMO. In a reply to Crocodile I'll be blunt and honest, just as you said yourself I as well am not interested in the game,it looks like a outdated ds game with chibi's that are completely out of tone with the darker Sci-Fi nature of the Metroid series Now we had soldiers and federation soldiers before in other metroid games, most noted are the ones we see in metroid prime 2 and 3 Here you can see proper looking Metroid Federation soldiers as compared to the rather out of place chibi-looking and kiddyish ones seen in Metroid Prime Federation force,I'm not at all opposed to a spin-off game to a metroid title,In fact I think a very well done side story could be done focused on a bit of adventure and science survival horror in the metroid universe as a possible third or first person shooter or even sidescroller, however federation force is just a kids arena shooter with a metroid name attached to it to make it easier to sell,I don't like that...especially with the timing It's been 6 years since we had a metroid game with the last one being metroid other M,I have no doubt due to the fan backslash and mixed reception being a major reason nintendo did not make another metroid game for many years...and then when we think we are going to get a break we get a kids looking spin off game that they are "trying" to tie into the games...that's not a good idea Basically its been so long since a proper metroid game, that with 6 years passing, you need to make a proper game to both regain the trust of the older fans and yet also become successfull to draw newer fans into the series, basically you need to have a full immersive game that is focused on what made the series unique...and metroid federation force is not that game... People show their displeasure for that game and to be honest,it's important to be vocal and tell some gaming companies "Hey this is not what we want, this is a bad idea, this is not what we are looking for in this series" of course not all the time will they listen, but the problem and concern here is that you get put into that situation where if no one buys the game then they just assume no one wants metroid anymore and wont make another game for a long time, when the truth is many people do want a metroid game...they just dont want one like that So the best thing you can do while being civil about it,is basically tell them "Nintendo this is not the Metroid game we want, please do not waste your time and funds on this and please do not release it and then bitch and complain later no one wanted to buy your product when we stated beforehand we are displeased with your product" </abbr> Yep, its been way too long since the last Metroid game. I want a new title bad. But I have no ire towards Federation Force. As I said before, the timing isn't advantageous to release a new Metroid game now. Nintendo doesn't owe us anything here and making petitions to try to get a game cancelled, demand it not be released or demand the Metroid name be taken off the game don't accomplish much and feel childish. Constructive feedback ("I think you can improve the game this way or make it more appealing") is fine but some of the hate I've seen is overblown. Let's all just wait it out. Good things comes to those that wait

Wait, why are we talking so much about Metroid?
The similarities between Miriam and Shanoa are undeniable, to me. They're fairly different, but at least as similar in spirit as Alucard to Soma. It's a good thing.

It's a good thing. Indubitably. Miriam has inherited Shanoa's spirit! She is her spiritual successor, if you will. (Pretty much what Bloodstained is to Castlevania...at least the "Metroidvania"-style titles)

I can see it, but the short hair is a difference, as well as the outfit. I wonder if Miriam will have no emotion due to the curse like Shonoa did for most of the game. Also valtiel return of samus rules, I would say in my opinion the second weakest game in the franchise is metroid, metroid zero mission is far better way to experience the start of samus's bounty hunting career aka federation employee. I agree that hunters is tough, have yet to beat it after having it for many years controls are tough. To bad they never made a ds/3ds player like the gameboy/ gamboy color/ gameboy advance player.

I doubt Miriam will be as emotionless as Shanoa. From the character designs, she seems to have a smug look about her that Shanoa doesn't have. (See the magic chair and posh tea-cup holding image of Miriam that channels Alucard's 'carefree-when-not-reminiscing' nature. Which warms my heart, she's his little apprentice!!)
Miriam is very much the type of girl that I am. She looks youthful and elegant, doesn't talk alot, but would probably rend a demon in half. Shanoa doesn't talk alot too, but looks dangerous, and is dangerous (aside from liking cats). The point: Miriam has innocence where Shanoa has emptiness. I can even see Miriam hesitating to fight/kill Gebel in the future because of their previous relationship. Compare to Shanoa fighting colleagues without much strain...(despite eventual remorse).
Miriam might even attempt to revive Gebel's former self as she knows he's trapped in his own body, and the magi-crystals are controlling him. Remember, his heart is the only thing that isn't touched by the curse. (Soma Cruz parallels?)
So...what's Miriam's darkness from the curse that takes up part of her heart? Is it naivety? Carelessness? She's definitely not Shanoa in that core aspect. (Here's hoping that ties into alternate game endings!)

Galamoth the art from order of ecclessia is great, I am sad that the artist never worked on many video games after that.
