Hey all! I've been searching the web looking for information detailing the multiplayer function of this game. I was wondering if someone on this forum might have some insight. Specifically, is co-op play optional in the main-game? I haven't found anything definitive on that yet, but maybe I missed something. I know that there is a multiplayer boss rush, as well as pvp/challenge co-op (probably like Harmony of Despair?), but I think it would be awesome to finally be able to explore a full IGA castle with a friend. Any know or feel like speculating?

The reason no one has said anything is because this is such a big unknown for us at this point in time. I can understand a bit of confusion too, as all we really know was from the Kickstarter. The title of the link on the main Fangamer site says, "Local Co-op and online Co-op/VS modes" SourceNow maybe people have asked and got a response for any hits of what to expect, but I can't recall anything. If someone can contribute another sited source, please go ahead. You certainly aren't the only one who has asked. There is an Existing Thread where Mana of ArtPlay made a comment. Might be worth a look.

XombieMikeThanks for the reply. I do remember seeing that thread before, but I thought that maybe some new information may have filtered through since then. I guess we'll just have to wait.

I do not know much about this either, been checking around for all kind of news and features these couple of years.
I can say straight of the bat (no pun intended) that co-op will be optional. This game is first and foremost for singleplayer experience.
But for the sake of adding and refining the igavania genre we could expect something cool about it.
Maybe it will be it's own mode, where you can't find some abilities like double jump and have to rely on each other. Added enemies and such. Of course it is just speculations.
Perhaps it's just an "join if you want" thingy whenever you play.
I hope we get more info about everything very soon.

It's my understanding that a lot of people (myself included) loved Harmony of Despair. I really hope they make a similar mode maybe in combination with the Roguelike Dungeon Mode for endless multiplayer content!

I too would like a Harmony of Despair-like co-op mode. I ended up loving playing that game more than I thought. (particularly drunk with several friends)

Harmony of Despair was great for what it was, but it felt like an incomplete game. The "online challenge mode" in Rotn is probably like HoD. I'm hoping for what they did with Portrait of Ruin, except the second character could be player controlled. I'm sure if they do, it will just be optional.
