Seriously, those who like Vepar's redesign; Do you think of her as a seamonster or a giant sea maiden? Because the old one was pretty clear about being a grotesque monster but this new one doesn't seem to know what it is. Looks generic and tame as either one. And as was brought up earlier in this thread; the redesign is pretty forgettable unlike the original design. I for one sure can't fully recall how the new Vepar looks despite having seen her more recently than the old one (which I remember every little detail of). Now the "bait" part is more alluring making it a more effective bait. If you think the old design was better that's fine, but to me it's pretty clear what the new design wants to be and it's more effective at that. Because it's supposed to be a mix between the two things you've mentioned. I, for one, didn't see anything that menacing about two extremely massive jiggling boobs and uber-flashy colors. If anything else, I find it way more menacing with the new somber colors, glowing eyes and a more proportioned figure. To me, atmosphere can make something more intimidating than plain monstrous features (and again, the only thing more monstrous about the old design was the belly with the jagged teeth. Giant boobs and strong colors weren't, in my book). Overall, it seems pretty clear to me that the new design has quite a bit of thought put into it. One can obviously prefer the old design but there's no need to make the new one seem "objectively" bad, aimless or bland. Pretty much everything that's been said in here is a matter of opinion. I remember clearly the details of both designs, and the new one I've never even seen it in motion. If you don't like it, of course it will seem "forgettable" to you. But it's not that way for everyone.

^"She" is a male sea-demon to me. Dem bewbies are just lures, and the real face is the "belly". Same. Demon. Pixels. "It". or "A thing". Not a he nor a she.

Same. Demon. Pixels. "It". or "A thing". Not a he nor a she. Although i do understand what you mean, you need to understand that to several people (me included), the symbolism of art and the real life is not so that apart. The drawing, pixelation or representation of a woman, and a real woman, are both "women" to the eyes of many. By the way, the way you view things is quite rare. Most people sees representations and art and the real thing as the same thing. They / we know they aren't, but consider them as much.

taburisu @ikai darekaPlease continue the Vepar discussion here. Normally, it should be topless, exactly like the Succubus in Sotn and even offer on disc the close-up portrait, in dir with files. Sotn's spiritual successor should stay true to the original's style, after all! I don't see what you mean here - Vepar is pretty...topless already. heh

XombieMike Even more polarizing then these? Or don't we mention those anymore? Wait they are censoring this boss?! No seriously this is new to me! I’ve only been following the Kickstarter updates and YouTube. Since I thought this Kickstarter was in safe hands I thought I didn’t need to pay much attention to it and just patiently wait till it’s out. crimsonx4I don't think it necessarily has to make sense to be there, and valkyries are warrior maidens and Miriam could fit into that category nicely, personally we already have Bloodless so I don't feel like we need another vampire so I didn't vote for that at all, I'm just glad that something like all silver or gold did'nt win. Valkyries are tied to Norse mythology, specially to Odin, not judeochristianity. Context wise it’s pretty far out there with the whole Church vs Goetia demons storyline. Although valkyries have shown up as enemies in the metroidvania games, iirc mostly the Sorrow ones. Anyways I hope most of these costumes make it in the final product, or at least the top three or five ones.

Before you start thinking 'censorship' please watch the SXSW panel Igarashi and company were at. Pertinent area starts at 18:11.

I don't think either one looks particularly good. Also, I don't know how they think that effect looks like "wetness", I don't often see things glowing when wet.

Where's the censorship.
Vepar went from a... I'm not really good at scale calculations but let's say a 124JJJJJ to a more modest 84DDDD. They're still boobs. They're still flapping and bouncing free. What's censored.
Because that's like saying that if you have two women going outside in public with their shirts off, the one with smaller boobs won't be citated. Is it that bigger boobs are somehow sexier and smaller boobs don't matter? That's the only way that argument makes sense.
Furthermore! From the people themselves in the Youtube comments because, obviously, somebody else chimed in about it:
"Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Highlighted reply Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night 2 months ago (edited) @...well, everyone Whenever you see comments from us on our online platforms it comes (usually) from me, I'm Roberto Piraino, (Angel-Corlux) the brand manager at 505 Games responsible for publishing Bloodstained. I can personally guarantee everyone that both with the marketing/publishing (my domain) or the design of the game (Iga's domain) there is not a single decision that is made in order to pander to anyone with any kind of agenda. Whether it's social, religious, political or any kind of other activism or ideology, we avoid all of it like the plague. And consequentially, we're pretty deaf to any feedback that comes as a result of those/any agendas. The only thing guiding IGA is making Bloodstained the biggest, funnest, best looking game he's ever made, as HE envisions it. There are times when he brings stuff to me and is like "will we get in trouble for this?" and I'm just like "haha I don't care, I'll fight whoever, wherever to defend your artistic choices, you make your masterpiece". Now obviously that's within reason, and there are limits of course, but there hasn't been a single time where I even considered telling Iga "hey can we change/tone down x,y,z?", mostly because Iga doesn't work in the "extremes" of the artistic spectrum when it comes to things like violence or sexuality. Finally, specifically here with Vepar, there were a few major goals driving the rework effort, and some of them included things like making her look more menacing, more gothic/demonic (also due to fan feedback), as well as making her more attractive/seductive since her monster philosophy includes an element of functioning as a siren to lure sailors to their deaths. And making her more seductive also meant some changes to her face, it's much more detailed and realistic now if you take a good look. Obviously "more attractive" is always going to be subjective to the eye of the beholder (or in this case game creator) and at least personally I believe that there are tons of looks, archetypes and ways to be beautiful and attractive, but that's just a little context to assuage any concerns from anyone who thinks we're ever making any decisions based on external pressures related to any kind of agenda. "
So. Either they're lying to your face or you *just* might be acting a bit irrationally here.

I wasn't lying! Promise! The only part that's out of date is where at the start I say all online communication comes from me, now that we have an awesome community manager (Question) he's taken point.

Since we're unfortunately talking about this nonsense again, please read the discussion that starts on it on page 3 in this thread, Angel's official responses about it not being "censorship" and the discourse that followed.
Yeah, or just read this.

Neither does claming making a monsters boobs smaller is censorship. Actually, that does make sense. Covering/changing/removing something, especially if it's sexual in nature, because some people don't like it is generally considered censoring.

Still not making sense, sorry.
Especially if you have to make the claim in the face of everything the developers are saying.
But I think I'm gonna tap out of this convo and let what the people above me say say everything.
