gematsu.com/2018/03/valkyrie-profile-lenneth-first-teaser-trailer-2018VP1 may be my #1 game of all time. It's very close between that, my top CVs and FFs. Anyway, this is a something. What "something" it is, I'm not sure yet, but here are my deductions: - It does not seem to be a simple mobile port of the original game - the others that got this treatment didn't have Twitter accounts - VP already has a rather successful mobage with Anatomia that plays similarly to VP1, so it seems odd it'd be a new game of that type, but it's possible - the Twitter account follows other S-E mobage - Lenneth's voice seems to be a new recording, which would mean the voices are being redone for the original telling of the story, which does lend to the idea of "remake" or remaster. I'd like to see the OG Pokemon actors back too  So, even without letting hype getting the best of me, I DO think this is some kind of actual remaster/remake of the game. Ideally it would be current gen and Steam, but I'd honestly settle for any one of them. I'd buy whatever I didn't have. My avatar here is Mana art from the game btw.

Yep. My thoughts:
welp. Just mobile for now. It at least looks/sounds fine. I'm glad it at least means new people will play the game, but of course still disappointing. All the JP comments were mad lol.
The thing is, it does strike me as a "remaster", some of the graphical effects and sounds are new while keeping the proper sprites. That's a positive. The twitter account also specifies "mobile version" so hopefully that means other versions in addition - if nothing else, the eventual PC/Steam one. So...it could be a WORSE mobile port, basically. heh
What I kinda don't get though is...how? This game has some fairly complicated platforming segments. I know some people play Castlevania on their phones (which is crazy too), but aiming crystal shot/sword while jumping and scaling walls sounds like ass with touch controls. If they make the whole game a battle system on rails, then yeah I'm 100% against it.

Well, indeed, virtual on-screen controls for the platforming. Note how even the guy demo'ing it kinda messes up a little lol.

Hm, yeah, no doubt. It got my attention at least and my reaction is somewhat positive - I'm very glad that it means a lot of new people will play VP. That itself means the future is brighter for more things than it otherwise could have been.
Mobile is a format that's really big and accessible. Even for myself, I play more mobile games than console just because of how life has taken me/things have changed. It's a bittersweet reality, however the core of this game looks to be intact so that's good news!

Motoi Sakuraba put together a new arrangement/remix to celebrate the launch of the game. You can hear some of his Dark Souls work in this, to me. Pretty good, but maybe too much choirs for my taste? haha

Oh, I'm glad for VP to not be buried and considered a dead IP. That said, I am highly suspicious on how SE manages its non-FF IPs lately. Do yourself a favor and get VP Lenneth for PSP. You'll never regret it.  |

This video seems to mean a global English version is coming soon So after following this for a while, I feel like I can say, though I haven't played it myself that this is a pretty good port of the game. You can use an external controller, and if you do decide to play entirely with touch they've put up some tutorials and examples of how to clear some of the harder sections with that. I'd be down to play it with a pad on my tablet, which is something I was trying to do some time ago with emulation that didn't quite work out how I wanted. |

I think its that people (myself included) tend to equate "mobile phone game" with "cheap, exploitative, difficult to control game" and that's not even going into the monster that is ads. Say what you will about the vita, but at least the vita won't have ads cutting in the gameplay. And to be honest, I have trouble finding a lot of good action titles on mobile devices there that don't involve at least one of those 3.

Well, I can tell you that it's not like what you're describing. It's a one time purchase and then you have essentially a mobile port of PSP Lenneth with some added features. As such, there's no need for there to be any ads because it's not a F2P game. It has gamepad support as well, though only where it's important - in-game movement on the platforming and the battle system. Menu screens are still touch only from what I can tell so far, but you won't be using them comparatively as much and not during any sort of action. My Shield controller mapped automatically to "Square" position - crystal shot, "X" - jump, "Circle" - slash, "R1" - menu. You have an option in game to swap O and X (confirm and cancel buttons). Basically, it'd feel familiar to playing Symphony of the Night, since jump is in the same spot and square/circle are weapons. Also interesting adjustment about the slash - the animation and voice clip are both faster so they recover sooner. Slide also -seemed- perhaps a bit faster, but I'm not sure about that. |
