TL;DR: Met the creator of castlevania symphony of the night and paid tribute to my dear belated best friend!
A few months ago i had an incredible idea for paying tribute to my best friend, Adamwho passed away a little over 2 years ago.

See, Adam and I were gamers and one particular game which we bonded over was Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. An incredible masterpiece produced by Konami and directed by the great Koji Igarashi or "IGA" for short. When i say that we bonded over this game what I really mean is we played the shit out of it, obsessed for years with turning over stone in the game.
When Adam passed, it impacted me greatly. Especially the fact that I was overseas when it happened. I didnt know how to deal with it properly, we had been friends for 20 years. This is actually what sparked my game collection up (43 ps1 black labels and coubting). Basically trying to recapture something that no longer exists. I decided to slow down on collecting recently but not before obtaining my pristine, complete black label copy of symphony of the night.
Around this time i came to find out that Mr Igarashi and a dream team of voice actors, developers, musicians and art directors have been working on a new project. Bloodstained: ritual.of the night, a spiritual successor to symphony of the night although not published by Konami. I perused their kickstarter page to find different tier options. At the very bottom, for $5000.00 youd not only get a copy of the game along with a bunch of other stuff, but youd be able to design your own enemy in the game.
Just then i recalled a part of Adams final words "if i become a ghost, i promise i will be a friendly ghost". For those of you who dont know castlevania, its all about slaying ghosts, zombies and a multitude of other macabre entities.
I thought to myself "What more perfect tribute could there be other than to reincarnate Adam as the friendly ghost he described before he died in the spiritual successor to a game we cherished?" I began working to find email addresses and other contact info to get in touch with the staff. I eventually found an email which lead to the company who was handling their kickstarter page. I sent them the story, they were moved by it and then provided me an email address for the Bloodstained team. I expressed extreme gratitude and contacted a friend of mine and Adams with an english major to help me compose a heartfelt email.
17 days had passed and i had not heard back from anyone until the 18th day when none other than Koji fucking Igarashi responded to me. He was also moved by my request and considered all possible options for me however the tier for designing a character in game was closed and so therefore a special exception would not be fair to the other fans who had already paid.
I was happy that i had persued this far fetched idea and actually got to virtually speak to the man himself despite the fact that my request could not be fulfiled.
A few months later i decided to book my lifelong dream trip to Japan, a month later i decided to shoot Koji another email (so weird to say that so casually). I wondered if at least it would be possible to get my copy of sotn signed since im going to be there anyway. His team responded a few days later saying "yes". My heart dropped a bit and the result is that i met koji igarashi, the creator of castlevania symphony of the night! He signed my copy as you can see "For Adam: may your soul play on for eternity in the symphony of the night" wtf! Cool as hell. I cant describe how amazing this is. A game i played 20 years ago and have such vivid childhood memories of. Then to meet the dude who created it, have him give me some of his time and write a tribute to my best friend on the other side of the freaking world 20 years later.....absolutely insane. My day is complete and nothing is ever too far fetched. Adam, may your soul rest in peace my dear friend.
Follow your dreams!
Fun fact: Mr. Igarashi's favorite Final Fantasy game is #3 and he didn't know that it wasn't released in North America on a standard console. At this point he began obsessively researching it on wikipedia with a huge smile on his face.
Furthermore; you can get your copy of Bloodstained here. It will be released in 2018.
Edit: words
Edit 2: On top of all of this, it's also my cake day. Best present ever.
