Me.
I'm the one, when they added in a bonus cap of 255 and attribute cap of 65536, that they were thinking of. Guess how many times I've done that in OoE?
Three. And I had a blast each time. It was a nice fun thing to unlock from Level 1 Hard mode and it was super neat figuring out a build that could one shot Dracula on normal. Hell if I can remember it now, though.

I love the 255 number because it's super nostalgic for me. My first exposure to it was Star Ocean: Till the End of Time for PS2.
Learning you could go past 99?! Seeing people over level 100, level 150, level 200 even.... was nuts!
And that 255 number somehow locked into my brain as the perfect level cap. 999 is too high and 99 is too low. And "9s" are boring to me. Level 100 is boring too, after Pokemon.
255 was that bizarre little eccentric number that just stuck with me. All the Star Ocean games have it. And whenever I made an RPG, I made 255 the level cap. Not because of any limitation based on 8-bit values or anything, but purely because of the fondness of the number that Star Ocean and other games like it gave to me.
Star ocean made me also like my damage cap being no lower than five 9s.

All for it, but then what would be a good number to cap stats at?

All for it, but then what would be a good number to cap stats at? I'd say don't cap them, cause there shouldn't be any way to get an infinite amount. If anything does provide that infinite growth like Muramasa in SotN, the cap should be the all 9s version of the next most powerful thing.

Level 255 sounds good to me. That would require the system to have no EXP degradation from enemies (or bonus EXP if their level is higher than yours), however. Every enemy that gives hundreds or thousands of EXP upon defeat must remain that way for the entire game (not counting how much of a bonus may be granted by accessories like Pure Miriam 's idea). ^ It also makes me hope even more that the 2nd and 3rd playable characters will be able to use the equipment menu as well (as in being more than just "bonus" characters). If you really wanted to spend time making them as powerful as possible, as you would Miriam, then they might need that special item as well. If anything else, I'm hoping that the developers create non-boss enemies for the final area of the game that are powerful enough to be a challenge to defeat even if your character is at Level 90+ (and with the "best" equipment for that point in the game). Thusly, they should have EXP value much higher than all the rest ('cept for later-game Bosses). Of course... there's still the slight distinct possibility of a "Second Castle" to explore after we conquer Gebel's Castle (1,600+ Rooms by itself). We don't know if this will be a thing (and it will likely be kept a guarded secret until a player finds out about it in the final game), but this could be a way to create ever stronger enemies to incentivize the notion of raising your character to Levels much higher than 99. ^ (So I guess this last paragraph is my true contribution to this thread.)

GalamothI love absolutely all of these ideas. Especially the other characters having an equipment screen. Always disappointed me that bonus characters in Castlevanias weren't nearly as feature-rich. Harmony of Despair had full (or near full) equipment setups for all characters so it's not entirely unheard of with the franchise. I'm not holding my breath for it, but I'd really love for Bloodstained to go that route.

Well, I could see the stats having a bit of a hardcap, at first, if the Level 255 thing is unlocked for subsequent playthroughs. That way,as mobs get stronger, you're able to, as well. Otherwise, I completely agree with Galamoth and lovelydumpling on this.

I think it's way too late in the development of this game to make that a feature suggestion to the team working on this game. Nonetheless, I am still hoping for the other playable characters to have full access to those pause menus like Miriam would. (Sure, they most-likely wouldn't have access to Shards like Miriam would, but it can't be difficult to set up their unique abilities otherwise).

Nezuto Definitely a good idea to have in reserve for unlocking New Game+ first. (You'd also need to clear the game at least once to unlock higher difficulties, anyway).

It was actually also a thing in Harmony of Dissonance for the GBA. I happened to notice EXP degradation was a thing after I completed two playthroughs of the game about 2 years ago, and before I posted about the significance of collecting Furniture in that game: bloodstainedfanforums.com/post/35654But I agree. I don't think it will return in Bloodstained.

Such a throwback to such a old topic =) I still hold more or less to the same idea i had before, with a EXP bonus item to help grind and harder enemies.
About EXP degradation, it indeed existed on Symphony of the Night and Harmony of Dissonance. It vanished on all other Igavanias.
I also don't think we will see something like that on Bloodstained.

Thought I'd cast some threadromancy on this topic, now that the "Invert" Shard has been confirmed and (in previous months) Nightmare Mode enemy placement is confirmed finished. There is still hope for significantly stronger enemies in the game to help incentivize growing to levels past 99. If "Invert" is the only way to access certain parts of Gebel's Castle, some of those areas may contain some of the tougher enemies too.
Heck, I still want to know if the other two playable characters get to have equipment menus of their own.
