Before you read, he might be refering to the prequel.www.gonintendo.com/stories/288039-igarashi-on-making-bloodstained-a-game-for-fans-making-more-gameA portion of a Gamasutra interview with Koji Igarashi... GS: So you’re making another Igavania, as the fans like to call them. Is this because it’s something you truly wanted to do, or is it more for the fans?KI: There's no doubt that I love this genre myself. But in a related topic, I think the answer to this question is what makes us different from “indies.” When I think of indie, I believe an indie game is based on a developer's personal preference. For Bloodstained, this is a title that started out on Kickstarter to answer the fans' wish for another Igavania game, moreso than what I want to create. I feel that it is my duty to answer the fans' wishes first, and so I’ve been shaping the game's vision in that direction. GS: Are you hoping to make the perfect vision for this kind game and move on to something else, or do you want to keep working on Igavanias as long as people want them?KI: We're hoping to create new kinds of games eventually, but right now we want to focus on franchising Bloodstained and have it really stick with the gamers. We’ll be creating at least one more game in this genre. This time around we wanted to emphasize that nostalgia, and focus on recreating the same gameplay experience players got in the past. In the future, we will continue adding new ideas and features regardless of whether we’re staying with this kind of game or genre. GS: Bloodstained has a female lead, which is great. Japan’s bosses use to say having female leads would mean a game wouldn’t sell. How do you feel about that?
KI: A large reason for choosing a female lead was the Kickstarter. When we thought about collecting funds from Kickstarter, and thought about the modern social movement in America, having a female lead felt right, but also calculated. But in the end I could care less whether the lead is male or female as long as the game is fun to play. I did have a challenging time coming up with the story, but that could be said for a lead character of any gender.

Now, THAT is interesting. He may be talking about the prequel, but...i don't know. Maybe Artplay / 505 games / Dico and such already got enough money from the kickstarter / slacker backers to make profit and a second game?

Now, THAT is interesting. He may be talking about the prequel, but...i don't know. Maybe Artplay / 505 games / Dico and such already got enough money from the kickstarter / slacker backers to make profit and a second game? I think a second game or a similar type of IP to Bloodstained. There might be a few ideas that can't be put into Bloodstained. Like, if IGA ever wanted to make a more horror-game approach or perhaps even space themed thing. I doubt it however. I think they are into the idea of making such a great game so they can make a Bloodstained 2, using the assets and just make it bigger with some more features (and take away those that was less interesting). The prequel is after all not their "development", only their IP. On another note, it is fun to see that Artplay is going strong, as a new company to give out 2 games almost at the same time (or the same time, we do not know). Probably not the first company doing so, but it is kinda cool. Glad Inti Creates took over the prequel. Gonna be awesome!

He did say he wants to franchise Bloodstained so a sequel sounds incredibly likely. As for that game, in the context of the speculation, he probably means the prequel.

Based on those answers, I would say it is obvious that he is referring to a sequel that is close to the first game in art and theme (i.e. franchising Bloodstained), but that that new game would contain new stuff design wise, similar to how earlier igavanias resemble each other but are still different. However, it is very interesting also to see a new game from Iga in some other genre for sure.

As long as Bloodstained holds up (and based on everything we've been seeing I feel confident it will) I think a direct sequel is pretty much a given. I don't think IGA would put so much on the line to resurrect "Castlevania" and then only do a single game like it. I don't think a new Bloodstained every year or two is in the cards like it was a decade ago when IGA and Konami just kept the same engine and recycled huge amount of spritework but I'd say, again provided BS is a success, getting a sequel around 2020 sounds reasonable.
