I've always wanted a good wiki for Bloodstained. There's one out there that has been talked about in the past, but it's just too full of ads for me to seriously consider. So, I've been considering our options.
Option 1:
Incorporating a wiki software on a new server service that ArtPlay pays for.
This would be the most ideal way to run an official wiki. Of course, if we had our own server we could also ditch our current forum hosting company, although we would probably lose some functionality along with that. This is because we would be able to retain our database of users, threads and posts, but not features like our themes and plugins. The migration would be very work intensive for me, and although I'm a bit intimidated by it, I'm sure I could make it happen given enough time and having our current set-up running until it's time to flip the switch. I'm not sure if ArtPlay would even go for the idea. Our forum host is dependable and they will eventually be rolling out more forum features me might not want to miss out on. I'm quite comfortable with the current system. Honestly, this is more of an ArtPlay decision, and I'm fine with it staying the way it is.
Option 2:
Use Gamepedia.
Sure, they have some ads, but there are no pop-ups, the ads aren't super invasive, (someone could use adblock...) and they are great for other game wiki's out there. I've already claimed the wiki and have added what's currently there. It's not quite the best looking wiki at the moment, but hey, I tried. Add some articles and stuff there and see how you like it. It certainly isn't going anywhere. The other disadvantage of using Gamepedia other than ads is that pretty much anyone can edit. That is kinda more a strength than a weakness though, right?
Option 3:
Use our forums as a wiki.
That's just a custom page here on the forums linked to other custom pages. We have no limit on custom pages, so it's really like building our own website of information about the game. It's just HTML like any other site, except down at the bottom you have the option to write a reply that can include any content you want. Moderators will look at your reply and check it for accuracy, spelling, grammar, etc. and manually edit the HTML to include your suggestion. This would be more intensive for mods, and it won't be searchable. This might be worth it though, because the content will be managed and the navigation menu should be set up so that things aren't hard to find. Plus, you don't have to know anything about editing wikis. You just write something in a reply and if it makes sense we put it in for you. Try it out after you try out the Gamepedia and let me know which you like better.
Alright, so option 1 is an ArtPlay thing. Option 2 will be around regardless. The big question here: is the forum wiki something we should move forward with or will Gamepedia suffice? The poll says forum "wiki" in quotes because it's not really functioning like wiki software does with the linking and citing and mass public editing that real wikis have. Still, it may be worth it or open up ideas we haven't thought of because there may be other possibilities. Discuss! Let me know! I know some of you have mentioned wikis. Eventually there will be a website for Bloodstained, but we don't know how robust it will be, or when it will be coming. I'm certainly not going to wait for it.
