FAMILIAR SHARD: Brown Jenkin Obtained from: Witch (optional boss) Description: A small brown rat with a human face follows you around. Leveling: As Brown Jenkin increases in level he reveals new hidden locations throughout the map if active in the same room. At max level, while Brown Jenkin is equipped, you will be able to teleport to any room you have already visited by interacting with him. Brown Jenkins is probably my favorite Lovecraft creature. This suggestion is so good. Of all the suggestions I've ever read on this site, this might be my favorite. Here are some more pics. For those who don't know the story, read it online or just listen to it here: Mana can you get a Japanese copy of Dreams in the Witch House to IGA? It's public domain and perfectly legal to include in the game.

Huh... I thought the opposite was true about "leveling" Shards. Collecting more of the same would not improve the effect (and a number doesn't show up in the Shard equip screen). Ah well. For this thread, I'll treat it as if such a method to increase their strength exists. TRIGGER SHARD: Crystal SproutObtained from: Crystal Golem ( BOSS - See Bloodstained Enemy Discussion thread) Description: Progression ability; required to find certain Key Items. A magical crystal grows from the ground directly in front of Miriam at an accelerated rate, which will inflict EARTH-attribute damage to all enemies that come in contact with it. Items or Gold [money] can sometimes be uncovered from beneath floors and other surfaces. Leveling: Damage increases depending on total items found with this ability. EFFECTIVE SHARD: Evil ImpulseObtained from: Astaroth (Enemy) Description: Miriam's rational mind is temporarily overwhelmed by sadistic thoughts not her own, influenced by a demon's wicked intent. All normal weapon strikes and other non-elemental attacks are enhanced with DARK-attribute damage. Some enemies can be affected by a unique " Terror" status-ailment, causing them to flee in abject fear of Miriam. ( Miriam will occasionally laugh in a sinister manner upon successfully killing enemies.) Leveling: N/A DIRECTIONAL SHARD: Ossicle SpineObtained from: Decarabia ( BOSS - See Bloodstained Enemy Discussion thread; pay attention to a certain moment in the linked video.) Description: Progression ability; required until the "High Jump" ability is obtained. Miriam can conjure a flexible starfish arm to extend in any direction and inflict the Poison status-ailment on enemies that are vulnerable (only if they're weak against being Poisoned). It can also be used to grip onto ledges of higher surfaces that the Double-Jump ability alone can't reach. Leveling: N/A (Use of a "Pentagram" item can briefly strengthen the Poison effect on enemies.) ENCHANT SHARD: Blood MagicObtained from: Gashadokuro ( BOSS - See Bloodstained Enemy Discussion thread) Description: If equipped, Miriam gains the ability to restore her MP just by hitting enemies that bleed, and standing in the path of the blood-spray. Leveling: N/A FAMILIAR SHARD: Great-Duke Murmur (see Demons of The Lesser Key of Solomon thread)Obtained from: * Minister's Trumpet ( Relic; find a secret "audience room" and use the Minister's Trumpet. Murmur will appear and, after a short conversation, bestow a token of his favor upon Miriam.) Description: Late-game ability; Miriam can summon Murmur himself to unleash a barrage of attacks that cover the screen ( Wind-attribute). Leveling: Decrease MP-consumption rate (Murmur must participate in battle alongside Miriam). Whew! That's all I've got. I'm seriously hoping that the developers at least consider some of these ideas! " Crystal Golem" is giving me flashbacks to the Colecovision, and that's a trip I don't mind taking. thx!

The one in Aria of Sorrow and Dawn where you drop slower and glide. I also really loved the use of the water souls where are first you couldn't go under water, and the one where it let you stand on top of the water.
I guess you could say I want USEFUL shards. I felt like there was too many throwaway souls that I would never use. The more creative the better. I loved the one in Dawn for instance where you could switch bodies. That was a fun way to get behind an enemy to attack.

Old thread of mine, revived. Nice Here some new ideas i had: TRIGGER SHARD: Holy Boomerang. Enemy: Holy Symbol. A flying crystalized broken cross (cracking, one side missing) that attacks by flying at a linear path. Effect: Miriam throws a crystalized broken cross that works like a linear boomerang. Leveling: increases overall damage. EFFECTIVE SHARD: Miniaturize. Enemy: Pygmy. A overly tiny enemy that looks like a micro-sized demon. It attacks in huge swarms but each one is considered a individual enemy. Effect: Miriam turns into a Chibi form of herself (small body, huge head). Pressing the same button again, creates a Chibi-Miriam clone. Keep hitting the button to create a swarm of Chibi-Miriams. They walk following the real one, and they can seek and attack enemies around the scenario on their own accord, although each Chibi-Miriam has only 50% of attack power of the original real one (The Chibi real one ALSO has a -50% penalty on attack power). They attack mimicking whateaver weapon real Miriam is equipped. If any Chibi-Miriam (aside from the real one) is damaged enough times, it vanishes. MP is continuously being consumed while Chibi-Miriams exist and more MP is consumed depending on how much Chibi-Miriams exist. When the max number of Chibi-Miriams are reached, the last one created does a different sound to alert that. Pressing the button again, after the max number of Chibi-Miriams is reached, cancels the power, making all Chibi-Miriams vanish and returning Miriam back to her former self. Leveling: increases how much Chibi-Miriams you can create (from 1 to 9, so, 10 in total, including the real Miriam) and how much hits each Chibi-Miriam can take (from 2 to 5). DIRECTIONAL SHARD: Stained Rainbow
Enemy: Crystal Angel. A Angel with crystalized wings. Effect: Throws a crystalized bean that looks like a rainbow. After the beam ends, there is a lasting effect, in the form of a shining rainbow, that keeps damaging anything inside of it for a small time. Leveling: increases duration of the rainbow lasting effect. ENCHANT SHARD: Soul of Faith. Enemy: Holy Spirit. A suspicious looking ghost, a blue sillhuete with a yellow crystal right at it's chest. The ghost resembles a warrior. It attacks with whip attacks and throwing broken crosses like boomerangs. Effect: When equipped, it does nothing. But if Holy Boomerang Shard is used while Soul of Faith is equipped, instead of throwing a cross, Miriam summons a beam of light with several crystalized broken crosses running around her body alongside Shards of all colors. It consumes way more MP that way. Leveling: increases Holy Boomerang damage (if used alongside Soul of Faith). FAMILIAR SHARD: Ragged Doll. Enemy: Ragged Doll. A flying female doll made of rags, missing one eye, all patched, with long black hair. It attacks by screaming horribly, showing a huge menacing mouth full of teeth and bitting. It keeps trying to bite the player all around until it's killed or the player moves on from the scenario. Effect: Summon Ragged Doll. As a familiar, it has the same exact look of the enemy, just a brighter color. It does the same as the original enemy does. Attacks by trrying to bite with her oversized mouth. Some small and low-lv enemies (with exceptions) can be completely swalled and killed in one hit by vanishing inside her mouth completely. If there is no enemy for her to attack, after a certain amout of time doing nothing, it gets enraged and bites Miriam, calming herself. That attack DOES real damage. There is a secret that, if Miriam is equipped with something specific (i don't know what lol) AND lets Ragged Doll Familiar bite her, she will be swalled and will be teleported to a secret realm (a secret part of the map). Leveling: increases it's overall damage.

ManaCould we please know when it's too late for our suggestions to make it into the game? Daydreaming about specific things we want to see in the game is fun and all but shouting into the void can be a bit disheartening.

In light of the E3 Trailer and Gematsu gameplay videos, I've got two more Shard ideas to submit here.
#1. EFFECTIVE SHARD: Suspend Momentum Obtained from: Wind Elemental (enemy) Description: Required for progression in the Castle; Miriam gains the ability to hover in one location at any point in a jump or while falling. Miriam can gain "momentum" (extra damage) for her Dive-Kick when using this Shard and, if held in position long enough before letting go, Miriam's diving kick will cause the screen to "shake" upon impact with any surface or enemy. If it connects with a surface, debris will be sent flying in random directions. (This fully-charged diving kick is required to destroy certain barriers to progression in the Castle) Leveling: Collecting more of this same Shard (maximum of 9) will increase the amount of damaging debris created upon impact with surfaces (not enemies). At the maximum of 9 Shards, the charged dive-kick (any charge level) will then inflict extra Wind-attribute damage.
#2. SKILL SHARD: Free Movement Obtained from: Crocell (enemy) Description: Miriam is now capable of moving normally through bodies of water, on slippery/frozen or sticky surfaces, or against wind-currents without her movements ever being affected. In addition, as long as this Shard is active, Miriam will be able to use dive-kicks while underwater. Leveling: N/A

Dimensional ShardsShards that works "outside of our realm". These will unlock new settings in the game for cosmetics and feel only.
- Familiar Color = Feature that allows you to change skin of any familiar (colors mostly).
- Familiar Ghost = Feature that allows you to change it from solid animation into semi-transparent animation.
- Musical Paper = Adding a song to the library / gallery so we can listen to the music at any given time. Even during playthrough.
- Monster Lore = When given, there are information about the strenghts and weakness of that monster. Random shard ofc.
- Scarf Color = Shard (not item) is sold at a shop / vendor. It allows you to choose colors for Miriams scarf.
- Blood Color = Change blood-color on those that bleed red into either yellow, green, purple, orange or blue.
- Family Photo Album Feat. = First shard is an empty album, next shard is a picture of Miriam. second shard is a picture of characters behind her, Alucard, Goofball, Johannes etc.
- Retro Music = Toggle between modern and classic music.
- Art Gallery = Concept art unlocked.
- Crying Statue = All statues are crying blood, and if Miriam is turned into stone (?) she too will cry blood.

#1) DIRECTIONAL SHARD: Frost Laser (similar in concept to BalancedHydra 's "Cold Breath" idea!) Obtained from: Abaia (BOSS) - See here in the Bloodstained Enemy Discussion threadDescription: A powerful beam of cold that can be aimed in any direction, freezing any enemy that is weak against the Ice attribute; The laser will last as long as you hold down the button or until Miriam runs out of MP. Leveling: In each New Game+ playthrough, absorbing Abaia's Shard again (up to 9 times) will increase the duration of the laser's " freezing" effect. ^ Video Examples: The beam could look like either of the following examples below (especially since I had Gergoth from Dawn of Sorrow in-mind when thinking of this Shard power). #2) ENCHANT SHARD: Ice ResistObtained from: Forneus (enemy) Description: Become significantly less-susceptible to the effects of Ice-attribute attacks. Damage is reduced by a certain percentage depending on how many of this Shard is collected; Much less-likely to be "frozen" (status-ailment similar to petrification). Leveling: 5 Levels ~ 1 Shard = 10% resistance; 3 Shards = 20% resistance; 5 Shards = 25% resistance; 7 Shards = 33% resistance; 9 Shards = 50% resistance. #3) SKILL SHARD: Curse EmpowermentObtained from: Beleth (BOSS)Description: As long as this Shard is active, Miriam's stats sharply rise whenever she is afflicted with the Curse status-ailment; her MP also doesn't fall past a certain percentage. I personally want an enchant shard that makes you gain no experience and increases the chances of getting shards or drop items. That or an enchant shard that makes you gain money instead of experience. I want to have a way of farming for items without over leveling myself. As a completionist, it is too easy for me to trivialize the game by trying to get everything.

... The red circle shows "LV 1" and the blue circle shows "quality". Shards may have a standard, fixed quality, but why they would have that level information? I'm not saying they level up by collecting more of the same type. But they most probably have some kind of leveling system. Also, IGA said in the past they wanted to make Miriam use alchemy in order to mature the shards to use them (maybe at another character). They scrapped that idea because they thought it would be frustrating for the gamer to get a new power, without the ability to use it right away. Even so, maybe they will be leveling up by some kind of alchemy process? Anyway, that's why i assumed Shards will be able to level up. Since the latest BCB episode with Mana and XombieMike , it's now confirmed that collecting more of a shard will increase the power of said shard. This is really saddening to hear. I'd rather it level up based on use or crafting it to be better. It was fun in PoR to have my attack abilities change just because I was using something often, and I dislike the idea that all shards you get from a boss basically are max level immediately, with no way to improve them. In the Sorrow games, collecting souls from bosses just wasn't really exciting (or any other shard that started at max level).

In the Sorrow games, collecting souls from bosses just wasn't really exciting (or any other shard that started at max level). You couldn't do that for Charlotte, though. Her Spells stayed at the same base power throughout the entire game. Harmony of Despair did introduce a "spell-binding" ability for her, which could ultimately increase her attack-strength, but it was made more tedious due to that game being stage-based. Aria of Sorrow at least had an interesting way to increase Soma's stats, and thus his damage-capability with Souls = Headhunter Soul (the more Souls in total you have, the more Soma's stats will be raised [except for Luck]).

ShroudedTraveler It looks like your idea of using crafting materials to improve a Shard power is an actual thing in the Beta Backer Demo. Though, I've only tried using a "Stinger" part from a Flying Morte to upgrade the Shard you get from the Barbatos enemy so far (I forgot the other material you need to combine it with, if at all).

Trigger shard: Shadow walk Dive into the platform and reenmerge after a few seconds, dealing moderate dark damage to whatever is above. Directional Shard: Arcane Dagger Throws a homing dagger that carries your weapon's elemental attack. Cursed moon Conjures spinning cresents that decapatate enemies. Enchant shard: Wild Night Double the fire rate of guns by wielding two of them, and walk while firing. Home runner Greatly enhance club's critical rate and knockback. Whip master Make the whip swing much bigger, but longer animation. The tip also does more damage if equiping dullahammer. Elemental Awakening Turns all the physical damage of a weapon into its elements (or elementless magic) affected only by INT.
