Sorry for the non-video game non-technology KS post but for me this kind of project holds a special place in my heart. If you are current or former military or have family and/or friends that are/were military you should take a look at this and help spread the word.
The fact that this plane was about to be torn apart and rebuild into a modern plane almost makes me sick. Not that I blame the company that currently has the plane as I'm sure they didn't know what they had. But it does make me happy that they found this plane and intend to restore it and fly it to Normandy for the 75th anniversary of D-Day.
The other thing that excites me is their stretch goal. They are currently sitting around $211k with 9 days left (ends 07/05/2015 @ 8PM EDT) and if they hit $250k in their own words: "With this in mind we are launching a Kickstarter “Stretch Goal” campaign of $250,000 to help the CAF restore the That’s All, Brother to the skies, and create an educational program that takes the airplane around the country to amaze, instruct, and inspire once again. "
Lemme tell you. I got into photography back in high school and got into collecting old news reels. Long story short, every year since I graduated, once a year, near the end of the school year I get out all my 8mm and 16mm projection equipment. I take a couple days off work and go into my old high school for my former history teacher to show WWII news reels for his classes. Some of the kids aren't impressed, but the others... You should see their eyes light up watching those old films.
For projects like this one and the one in at the airport in my home town that's currently restoring/rebuilding a B-17, it cannot be stressed enough how important these pieces of history are. Even with the films I show to those high school kids, it's one thing to see an image of what happened. It an altogether different experience to be able to put your hands on something that was there!
