I don't think portraits take you away from the game at all, they have been in every castlevania before bloodstained, just mix them up between some other paintings in different places and it's good. You don't typically see many portraits in general in igavanias especially not in ONE area bunched together like it seems to be here. My post shows that there's CREATIVE ways to artistically insert them in a way that benefits the games aesthetic and artistic value. IMO But... That's exactly what I said, not put them together and spread them in other ways... Don't really get what are you quoting here.

I feel like I'm saying the same thing as others but when I thought about where to place backer portraits I wouldn't think of the first or early area. I was thinking more on the lines of something in the middle of the game, maybe called "Servants quarters" or something. Have a big multistory room that's a boss room and have the portraits there, maybe even in adjacent rooms.
Just my thoughts.

Thanks JoJo , i always try to summarize info. thrashinuva thanks for agreeing =) About the whole portraits discussion, i must agree that i don't see any problem with them being at the entrance, if they manage to make them cool looking and not just a picture pasted there with no work on it. It would be fun to have a small plot behind it, as someone said, by being portraits of the Alchemist Guild members or something, but anyway, Igavania games had some of cool-looking portraits in the past. I can give a very good example that i just remembered, the Dracula Room from Julius Mode on Dawn Of Sorrow: This room was already well-detailed and beautiful on itself, and had a big ass portrait on it, from a unknown character. Wikia says it's possibly a more life-like rendition of Mathias Cronqvist, but anyway, that portrait was there, there was absolutely no explanation for it, and it looked damn good and blended perfectly with the whole scenario, in my honest opinion. If they take the pictures of the backers and work on them like that, adding classy clothing and a whole reinassance look, it will work greatly at the Entrance.

The only way that I can think of on how to blend the portrait of the backer is to have a passport photo or any portrait photo and send them to the development team Then have the photo redrawn in Bloodstained art style, just like the first concept art of Miriam in the Kickstarter campaign I think that will blend in pretty good

You know, thinking on the portrait thing, I think it would be a pretty hilarious Easter Egg if they had all the backers' portraits displayed in prominent areas, but then had a small hidden room tucked out of the way that had a portrait of someone with a bag over his head.

Portraits shouldn't be right in the beginning unless they're are extremely well done and blend perfectly with the rest of the scenery....I'm fairly certain that I would not be alone in being disappointed if the backer portraits just ended up being some photographs that were put through a Photoshop filter. They need to take whatever photos they receive and use them as a reference to create original painterly style portraits in setting-appropriate attire that won't be obvious backer content to the unaware, but will create a cool moment of recognition for anyone whose portrait is included. Man, how could anyone think they wouldn't do that? hahaha...I mean, real life selfie jpegs in the entrance to the castle? Of course not lol
I thought perhaps some were worried that they would use more new Kari Fry caricatures for this, which I don't think will be the case either. I'm pretty certain they'll be exactly like what Pure Miriam posted.

I LOVE that picture with the huge yellow moon. It's GORGEOUS.
Regarding the update, I know nothing about 505 Games, so I don't have a comment about that. The entrance hall looks lovely though, and I'm especially fond of the arched ceilings. Personally, I am okay with the backer portraits being in the entrance, but I think they should fit seemlessly with the rest of the setting.

I think the backgrounds are perfect, and they are making the game look amazing! What I am upset with is how bad Miriam looks against these backgrounds. It is definite proof in my eyes that the they should have used the realistic character shader on Miriam. As it is now, Miriam looks incredibly out-of-place with these awesome areas. She's like a 2D sticker while the rest of the game is an amazing, immersive 3D world with a 2D viewport. It is less noticeable when Miriam is in motion, but very glaring when she is standing still. Just pause the video when she is standing still. Then compare Miriam to the background.
I know they won't change anything with the character shader at this point, but I feel like the realistic character shader would have fit perfectly with these new backgrounds. Whereas the illustrated-look shader on Miriam does not fit in at all.

XD I think what people are worried about is the first impression so smashing them wouldn't quite fix the issue. Making good portraits that fit into the environment, artstyle and overall setting is the way I hope they'll do it. I'd also like them to be spread out across various sections of the castle so it doesn't feel like "so this is the backer-area".

XD I like the idea of destroying portraits, but I don't like the idea of losing them forever. My train of thought would be "smash everything I can to get items" rather than "smash things because I don't like them" and if I didn't know something like that would be gone from my save file completely, I'd be upset.

I honestly thought my idea was pretty freakin' great. They should be in the catacombs and they should hang above the coffins in the walls of each body. How is that not a fitting way to aesthetically put it into a game and a freakin' COOL way to be added instead of just a hallway.
