In the past, i did some threads talking specific things about the Shard Sytem. I think the time has come [epic music on the background] for us to discuss the system more deeply. For that, i wanted to do some comments and talk about what i think and questions i would like to see answered. Some of those questions i did before, and i want to do it again, get over it. MORTE HAS NO SHARD
It was said that, because Morte is a lesser demon, he has no shard. Considering what the Demo tells us, Shards are demon power crystalized, so, we can assume that this is a natural phemonenon of summoning a demon but Morte is so weak that his power can't be cristalized. That surely means that there will be more more like that. A category of Lesser Demons, that are too weak to cristalize their powers into Shards. What do you think of it? All demons should have shards or, it is a good thing that Morte and Lesser Demons has no shard? THE MISTERY ABOUT EFFECTIVE SHARD TYPE
All we know about Effective is it's name and color. What is the Effective Shard Type? How it will work? What command we will use to activate it? What kind of powers it will had? It will work like Guardian Soul From Aria/Dawn of Dorrow (Holding a shoulder button to activate it or use it)? THE MYSTERY ABOUT SHARD DATA ON MENU
Using Cerulean Splash as an example, we can see, on the menu, a lot of information about the Shard, that raises a lot of questions: Level: Shards will have fixed different levels? Or we will be able to level them? How? By getting more Shards? With alchemy? Imput: that info is there just to always remind the player how to use that Shard? Or maybe, some shards inside the same type will have different imputs? Type: damage type. Maybe there will be shards with more than one type? Power: general magic strength, most probably. We can change that power somehow? Maybe by leveling up the Shard, or Miriam itself? MP Cost: MP cost can be downgraded, or raised somehow? Quality: each Shard has a fixed quality, or that can be increased ? BOSSES SHARDS
On Aria of Sorrow, most Bosses had simply souls as powers. On Dawn of Sorrow, most bosses had souls that was useful to traverse the Castle, as away to lock the player's progress until the player beats the boss. What do you think Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night should do? We can assume that one-time Bosses will most probably automatically give their Shards, but you think Bloodstained Bosses could have common powers as Shards, or most of their Shards could be traversing abilities (like double jump and such) as a way to lock player's progress until bosses are defeated? HOW FAMILIARS WILL WORK?
We all know the game will have Familiars (dev team already said that the Familir name is a typo). How they will work? We will summon then and that's it? They will lave LV like other Shards and will level up? IF they level up, how this wil happen? Getting more Shards? Some alchemy system? They will have LV and EXP like Symphony of the Night? You think Familiars should be more interactive, like, Miriam could talk to them or something like that?
That's all folks!

I have nothing to add to your, as always, detailed analysis besides my opinion.
I would really like such a progression system for the shards and familiars. you gain exp when you use them in combat, so when you backtrack in the campaign (and additional modes) you still have a damn good reason to fight through your path and get some sort of accomplishment and additional power for upcoming boss fights besides character lvl and stats. it also motivates you to use every shard and familiar. everybody wins, except the developers who have to implement it.

Heh, another shard thread. PM, you sure do like drafting threads about these things...
That input column... *heavy breathing*
There's room for some directional inputs in there, Mr. Iga-sama, sir... D:?

As usual Pure, thorough as ever Now for my opinion: I think the "Quality" refers to rarity... I only say this because of the stars next to the word. Atars are usually used to show how rare a soul was in AoS and DoS.

I only say this because of the stars next to the word. Atars are usually used to show how rare a soul was in AoS and DoS. What is the quality for Amy? I don't remember, and i don't feel like trying to get that damn 1% Shard just to look at that.

I would imagine some shards will specify their input. That could be because a melee shard wouldn't need the directional aiming of a ranged one. Though it may also be possible for special inputs to change their effect. Fireball shard and a quarter circle forward = fire wave.
I would prefer to have several semi optional bosses that must be beat for the good ending and several entirely optional bosses as well. The mandatory bosses can either guard or drop an ability or key necessary to reach the bad ending and the semi optional bosses can drop something that allows the player to directly ascend beyond the bad ending or reach a new area that has the thing to get to the good ending.

MORTE HAS NO SHARD"What do you think of it? All demons should have shards or, it is a good thing that Morte and Lesser Demons has no shard?"
I am honestly perfectly content with Morte having no shard. With how large the scope of this game will be, I have no reason to believe that we won't have TONS of enemies that DO have shards. A sub genre of enemies, as Pure Miriam has mentioned, is a fantastic idea. :) THE M'Y'STERY ABOUT EFFECTIVE SHARD TYPE"What is the Effective Shard Type? How it will work? What command we will use to activate it? What kind of powers it will had?"It's really hard to say at this point, because ' Guardian' souls from Aria/Dawn are kind of already encompassed by the ' Familar' (Familiar) shard slot. I guess I would have to say that it's gunna be the ' Ability' souls of the game, though I can't really say for sure. ._.; ??? THE MYSTERY ABOUT SHARD DATA ON MENU "Level: Shards will have fixed different levels? Or we will be able to level them? How? By getting more Shards? With alchemy?
Imput: that info is there just to always remind the player how to use that Shard? Or maybe, some shards inside the same type will have different imputs?
Type: damage type. Maybe there will be shards with more than one type?
Power: general magic strength, most probably. We can change that power somehow? Maybe by leveling up the Shard, or Miriam itself?
MP Cost: MP cost can be downgraded, or raised somehow?
Quality: each Shard has a fixed quality, or that can be increased ?"
Ah. Now you're getting into the heart of the matter, my dearest. :) Level - I feel shards will level up with either: A. More consumption of a specific shard, or B. have a cumulative leveling up effect as the shard is used. Imput - Likely just what button to use to activate the skill. As with the older IGAvanias, I'm sure it's likely that the player will be able to manually change the controls. Nothing too exciting. Type - As with weapons, certain shards will likely have different applicable bonus'. (I.E. Dullahammer = a bludgeoning attribute; Amy = a fire attribute) Power - Likely ties in with level. Though naturally stronger enemies will yield stronger shards. :) MP - I think that the Elder Scrolls games are good examples of MP cost and usage, though unfortunately in the case of Bloodstained, I don't think that MP cost will decrease as you become more...proficient with the shard shall we say. Quality - Only one thing comes to mind with this one: Alchemy. I have a really good feeling you'll be able to do something with shards via alchemy. (Like, though not totally related to, Yoko Belnades' enchantment shop in DoS) BOSSES SHARDS"What do you think Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night should do?... you think Bloodstained Bosses could have common powers as Shards, or most of their Shards could be traversing abilities (like double jump and such) as a way to lock player's progress until bosses are defeated?"
I think that it is highly likely that bosses will give ability shards. This has been the case in pretty much all of the IGAvanias. Or at least bar the way to another item that you might need, either way, you'll need to bust some heads and assert your manliness if you're to get through this castle. *nodnod* HOW FAMILIARS WILL WORK? "How they will work?"
I think that it is highly likely that they will function like DoS, but have the personality of SotN. "We will summon then and that's it?"
If it isn't MP reliant like AoS/DoS, I'm sure that it will function like SotN, and you will be able to 'toggle' them on and off essentially. "They will lave LV like other Shards and will level up?"
GAWD I hope so. One thing that I personally loved about DoS was how when you leveled up your familiars, they change forme, got stronger, faster, ETC. Good times. :] "IF they level up, how this wil happen? Getting more Shards? Some alchemy system? They will have LV and EXP like Symphony of the Night?"
If they level up, I think that it'll likely be through getting more shards, or by an experience system for the familiars. Alchemy will likely be for the ' Quality' factor, mentioned earlier. Just a guess. "You think Familiars should be more interactive, like, Miriam could talk to them or something like that?"
Though I'm not crossing my fingers, one can always hope. :D

I don't remember, and i don't feel like trying to get that damn 1% Shard just to look at that. you know, I just got the Amy shard and it has only one star... there are three explanations to this... 1) Amy shards are not that rare or 2) the devs did not put in the rarity rating yet... and finally 3) I am completely wrong and "quality" is not about rarity at all lol

It was said that, because Morte is a lesser demon, he has no shard.
Where is the source for this?
I am aware that Morte does not drop a shard.
I was asking if there is a source that claimed that Morte is considered a "lesser demon."
