Estimate for Bloodstained's release has been moved back to the first half of 2018. IGA is also adding another team to the game, feels responsible for making Bloodstained the best possible game it can be. I myself am okay with this. I'd rather see IGA and his team take their time instead of rushing to meet a deadline. Delays tend to be a regular thing with crowdfunded games, anyway. I'd also like to applaud IGA for wanting to make sure Bloodstained is "done right the first time," in a world where it's become a regular practice to ship games with the intent of patching them after launch.

I was just creating the thread myself, you beat me to it!
Anyway I think we all expected this to happen: the game ended up being so much bigger than the team ever dreamed of when they launched a year and a half ago and gave us the initial March 2017 date. I have no problem with the team taking the time they need to make sure the game is as good as it should be on launch.

While they banged out that E3 demo fast, I still would have been really surprised if they had the game out any earlier than the end of next year. The timeframe they gave today is a lot closer to what I expected.

Same here - sure, it's a shame we won't get to play it next year, but we've waited nearly a decade for a new original igavania. We can wait one more year. What's great is that IGA decided to let us know as soon as he knew the game would be delayed, as opposed to, say, a week before launch. I'm sure the game will be well worth the wait!

I'm very happy to see them being so open with us. This is a huge push back but also one that was almost inevitable. My respect for Iga and the team has grown knowing that they want to deliver this game in its entirety and that it's done right the first time. Perhaps any lingering doubts about the quality of the game on release have just been put to rest as well.

An excellent point: they let us know MONTHS in advance that they knew they couldn't make the initial release date, not right before launch.
That being said, with an additional year being added on I wonder how much content will be left out of the staggered release or if that's been abandoned.

I've no objection to this. Let IGA take his time and make the game something better for us to sink our teeth into.
This announcement also has a better sense of timing then MN9's delays. (Months in advance rather then almost right before the listed release.)
Besides, I've got a fair amount of gaming related goods that I'd want to get early next year (such as the NX and Breath of The Wild), so it's for the best for my gaming budget that one gaming good has been pushed to a later date.

Take all the time you need, IGA!
PS : My respect for IGA and the community of Bloodstained has grown, No overreacts, no arguments or any negitive atmosphere, this will keep the developers more open and honest with their fans.. which is the key behind every successful game.
Love you guys!

I can't say I'm phazed too much - I expected a delay. That's what happens to every KS game. As long as the updates are consistent, real progress continues to be shown and the avenues of communication are kept open and used frequently I can feel confident the project remains on the right track. I was kind of bummed that they basically went radio-silent for a month but perhaps it was because they were so busy getting these additional development resources and planning trips for this month? I hope IGA's Pixelatl panels have some new info to share. Anyway, thanks Bloodstained team for letting us know with LOTS of time in advance and continue the good work.

I'm honestly not that surprised. At least they let us know well in advance of the original expected release date. The extra year should only do them good; although I'm seeing more than a few skeptics after the disaster that was Mighty No. 9 (not to mention No Man's Sky). I hope that an NX port will be considered!

Two points. 1\ The delay is okay. March 2017 for a game at this scale (with all these additional functions from stretch goals) is almost impossible unless everyone in the dev team is superman and doesn't need to eat and sleep. One year is not a big deal to me. 2\ I wish we could have some clarification about the update, especially about the "additional developers", about who are they, what company are they come from, etc. More people on the project is definitely a good thing (considering there are so many things devs need to do), but at the same time, a bigger team means it's harder to manage. I believe in IGA's experience on choosing people and team management, but hey, more info we have more relieved we areOkay after watching the video I think I'll wait for more. At last, I'm very confident about BS since the E3 demo's out, and I'll still be confident as long as devs keep in touch with us backers regularly.

Not a huge surprise. Still, I can't say that I'm excited to wait an extra year minimum though.

As long as the updates are consistent, real progress continues to be shown and the avenues of communication are kept open and used frequently I can feel confident the project remains on the right track. I feel the same way. So long as we see the progression in development regularly, getting delayed isn't as bad since we can actually see the amount of work involved. And delays aren't a common thing just for KS games anymore. Just this year there's been loads of AAA games that have been pushed back to make sure they're complete when released (among the titles I want that got delayed are FFXV, Persona5 NA version, Horizon:Zero Dawn, etc.)

We currently don’t have any specific information available regarding the game’s release date, as it’s currently way too early to accurately predict. I’m not on the development team or anything, but I do have some experience that might help put things in perspective. Here’s three important things to keep in mind: 1) Kickstarter requires you to pick an estimated fulfillment date (Month & Year) for each reward tier, so we had to make our best guess based on the current scope of the project. Once a tier is live (and at least one person backs at it), the information you wrote is totally immutable (you can’t change anything). This is why the $150 tier still lists including a Softcover art book instead of a Hardcover art book, even though the Hardcover stretch goal was reached within the first couple of hours after the campaign launched. 2) The Kickstarter ended up being SUPER successful (which is awesome), however hitting every stretch goal also significantly increased the project’s scope. More funding is great, because it’s the lifeblood of any project on this scale, but adding more things can also add more development time (more money doesn’t necessarily translate into faster development; like if you paid a painter 25% more, they won’t necessarily paint 25% faster). 3) Estimating an accurate delivery date for a creative project (especially with a new IP) is extremely difficult. Whether you’re a professional or an amateur, guessing the date for when your creative magnum opus project will be completed is nearly impossible until it’s very close to completion. It’s also pretty dangerous to announce your best guess too soon (as it’ll likely be inaccurate) because the public may conflate the inaccuracy as lying or failure if it doesn’t match what you had originally said. Steve explained a long time ago (1/25/16) about how Kickstarter requires an estimated date. To me, this meant the project was never given a release date. Sure they would like to get it out by then, but I certainly never expected March '17 as a solid date. I'm glad IGA left the date open ended. That way we aren't counting this as delay 1 of ? The clear expectation is that IGA will hold his quality standards as a priority above the release date.

If there is one thing I want IGA and the staff to know, its that the fanbase by and large is taking this news with grace. There's no need for IGA and the team to feel guilty, and I hope that Mana can let them know! I'd hate for them to be feeling worried about a backlash.

I figured that it would turn out like that. But I'm glad that IGA wants to make the highest quality work! And also, is it just me but did IGA shed a tear when he said "I'm very sorry for the delay"????

I'm actually very grateful that we got informed early about the delay So,yeah, I think most of us have expected the delay due the scale of the game after the all of the stretch goals are met

Haha, yep. I'll paste my comment on the KS here: I'm actually relieved. I didn't want this game to be out before it was truly ready and got all the love it deserves. Everyone should remember that the initial March 2017 date was a placeholder required by Kickstarter for the original 800k project, and after raising well over 5.5 million, the game got WAY, WAY bigger. I think everyone in the know expected this, and again, I'm glad to hear the time will be put in And, as others have said, I want the team to really know that the fans are taking this well and there's no issue. This is after all what needs to happen. edit: Huh, really? I think there's a certain demographic farther from the fandom that just doesn't know/understand the details of how these timelines work that will take the news harder. There's also always just a certain bit of folks that will raise a fuss regardless. edit2: Facebook reception all looks good to me so far. The #bloodstained on twitter is probably people that are just somewhat informed on what's going on that want to ride waves of negativity left over from similar things... I also don't really like the word "delay" at all here, there wasn't a true date to begin with D:
