Just because previous games had stuff like that doesn't mean they're good additions. Skeletons on motorcycles are stupid imo. An electric guitar is ridiculous. However, the electric guitar feels like a joke weapon which makes it okay, just like skeleton maids and silly things. Those are cool additions usually because it's lighthearted. A boss with a gattling gun arm isn't light hearted it's a clear design choice for a boss. So to me it's a no no when you could be doing something much more gothic and in theme of the game. We all agreed BK3 being a boss would be pretty lame. Castevana stopped being "gothic" long ago. And i personally prefer it that way. Theres only so much you can do with bats and skeletons. Heres an example... Remember that really awesome enemy from PoR called Coppelia. She would spawn by being blasted out of a cannon and land into a tightrope. She would throw knives at you and her death animation would be her exploding into confetti. That shit was so awesome! It was't gothic at all! And it gave the designers of the game more room to try different things. Heres another one... Skeleton Farmer would throw seeds at you and when they hit the ground Unes or Mandragoras would spawn. Is a skeleton farmer gothic? I dont think so... A guy with a gattling gun arm would be pretty silly indeed but... 1. We all would know it for the joke that it is. The context matters alot. Having both Iga and Shovel Knight in game would usually be stupid too, but the context makes their inclusion alot better. 2. Its not just a guy with a gattling gun arm, he also has a Kappa as a tail. It crosses the line whrere its oviously a joke. 3. Already Bloodstained isn't taking its enemy design as seriously as you would like, Gremori has a crotch camel. Gun arms are nothing in comparison to crotch camels.

It crosses the line whrere its oviously a joke. 3. Already Bloodstained isn't taking its enemy design as seriously as you would like, Gremori has a crotch camel. Gun arms are nothing in comparison to crotch camels. Gothic leaving IGAVANIA is one of the things I've hated. SOTN was perfectly gothic toned, didn't mean it couldn't have silly enemies, it just means the tone of the game, the vibe of the locations all had a gothic aura about it. Which is a good thing. 1. Shovel Knight is a perfect fit for IGAVANIA. There's tons of knight enemies already, it's only a joke because you know it's a different videogame character with a playful design but within the igavania world they can play with it and make it fit in, in a cool way. IGA is a backer exclusive no? So to me that's totally fine regardless of how silly and they could do ANYTHING with him. For all we know they make him into a vampire and it fits. 2. Right, I know it's not just the gatling gun arm but it's that aspect that really rubs me wrong with the design. It just feels lame in the context of this game. It'd fit well within Aria's more playful time period of being in a modern time. 3. In terms of the boss design? I don't see it not taking it seriously. It's a demon...and many demons rely on disturbing/creepy/weird imagery. So a camel being apart of that area of it's body just feels disturbing and strange to me. Perfectly in line with a gothic sorta game. This weird idea that just because you're doing a gothic game you can't do crazy inventive bosses or enemies is ridiculous. Just because you go in a gothic direction doesn't mean every enemy has to be of the classic gothic horror genre style. In SOTN you had LION/TIN MAN/ SCARECROW...... They're certainly weird but it still somehow fit and was bizarre/creepy. All I'm saying personally is I think it's weird to have that on it's arm and I wouldn't want that to be wasted on a boss design. I just don't want a boss shooting a machine gun at me in a game that takes place in the 1700's with a castle full of demons. To me that would be a lazy boss. Enemy? Fine, whatever....Still would be weird but less awful. People keep talking about silly enemies but what they fail to realize is they keep saying ENEMIES not bosses. You don't fight maids with vacuums as bosses do you? No, just like you don't fight bosses with a mini-gun attached to their arm. That's a better idea for a Devil May Cry game.

Well I dont know what to tell you. The game just doesn't seem to be going the gothic direction. Im sure we both agree on that. The game can have silly enemies without destroying the tone.... then how come youre anti BKappa?
So we pretty much agree. Enemy jokes are cool. We seem to agree on most points. Where do we disagree here? You pretty much just said context matters... which is also what I said.... Thus BKappa3 being in the game is ok.
So that means youre ok with body horror on demons just not anachronistic mechanical stuff... got it... at least youre consistent on that... Never mind.
Again, nobody on this thread wants him as a boss. We agree on that as well.

Yeah I don't think ANYONE wants Bismark Kappa The 3rd as a "main story boss". But having him as a hidden boss would still be awesome... if you don't like him you don't need to fight him. Maybe it should be clearly marked "this is Bismark Kappa The 3rd's home" or something less stupid. There will be many bosses that fit in the game, but this is a treat for those that watched the live stream and thought Bismark was awesomely horrible.

While the design is cool its also light hearted, not everything has to be serious. IGA has always had a sense of humour so maybe there is space in Bloodstained for BKIII. Perhaps he's just a joke though, we will have to see. I think it would be easily possible to make the chain-gun arm less modern (kinda steampunk style to better fit in with the setting) - might be Gebel's way of using technology against those that have forsaken the Alchemists in favour of modern ways. Was thinking BKIII could be a statue in the castle gardens or something (but with metal gun arm) and you have to use find an item that will animate him and come back later to use it. I like the idea of the Kappa being the vulnerable point on him because thats kind of awkward to hit. When he dies he could drop the "broken chain-gun" which would be difficult to repair using very rare items from the crafting menu - maybe when repaired it could even use Miriam's mana bar as ammo-clip to stop it being too game-breaking. OK maybe I just like the idea of Miriam shredding demons in half with bullets, she would be a total baddass. Would be a fun juxtaposition with her being so elegant and lady-like (I'm also getting memories of that movie Machine-girl).

^ That's a cool idea, maybe firing some crystalline projectiles since we're using our...Mana-bar? Heheh, I've been over here thinking about Mana-brand candy bars... What if the crystal MP-restoration item in the game is indeed a Mana Prism? ayyyyy I think I've made this joke at least twice already...

The disagreement mainly comes from the fact that a decent amount of people want it as a boss and I think it's not that good of a boss design. I like joke monsters I don't like joke bosses. I like gothic, crazy, grotesque bosses...etc

All hail Crotch Camels! Ooh, maybe Bismarck Kappa III could be a bonus Summon/Familiar.

I mean I feel like Bismark Kappa's design is too unique to NOT be a boss in the finished product. And also since it showed up in an interview concerning IGA...I dunno. I just feel that making him as a regular enemy won't do him any justice. :3

What about one of the minibosses/secret bosses scattered about the castle that drop a piece needed to summon iga, maybe a nokia cell phone?
Could even have those drop in the nonks game and leave players scratching their heads wondering why this horrendously powerful enemy tucked into a hidden room drops an item with seemingly no use, at least until they gamefaq it and find out the reference

I voted for the cameo option.
As of now, I think Bismark Kappa should remain an inside joke for people who were there at the Kickstarter finale stream and I want to avoid taking it too far. Maybe have him as a statue or a painting in the background, or give a character a line of dialogue saying something like "I had a dream where I encountered a purple four-legged beast with multiple guns on one arm!" or "Look at my art! My creation is beautiful! Gaze in awe of Bismark Kappa the Third!".
However, I am not opposed to BK3 being a boss since Bloodstained and past IGA games are the type of thing that throws realism right out of the window because something looks cool. I just hope the idea ends up being handled well and doesn't come off as too fanservice-y.

I voted for Cameo (in a painting). Although, I also want him as a boss.
...I just had a random idea, that if Miriam finds a "Strange Painting" somewhere in the castle, she could take it back to her room (assuming she has one) and hang it up on the wall.
If you decide to go to sleep (again, just assuming this will be a game feature), with the painting up.. a nightmare/boss battle with BKIII will be triggered.
If you lose the battle, Miriam will wake up with a completely drained magic meter..or something..idk... :p
And if you're victorious, the "Strange Painting" will become a "Blank Parchment", which could be used to craft/forge something maybe...

That is an amazing idea. Mana , XombieMike , check out the above d: What I really like about it specifically is that BKIII initially started out indeed as a "strange painting" on that whiteboard. It also could partially reconcile the anachronistic qualities of the monster, and even be quite fitting with just a bit of adjustment in that case. They could have further fun with the setting/music referencing other bits, perhaps.
