This was touched upon in the thread, 3D Charater Menu Screen... what if Miriam was able to get drunk (through "wine drinking") and while drunk she would be able to see monsters/demons in this state. This got me thinking, even if its not being drunk, what if there are different altered states she can put herself under. And what if these states help her find hidden doors, weapons, monsters, ghosts (maybe NPCs that help) and even hidden bosses. Here are some states I've come up with: - Meditative
- Out of body
- Drunk
- Poisoned
just to name a few... I think some of these states could be achieved through spells, food or other items.

Miriam is 18 no? Having a drunk 18 year old might run into issues with the ERSB in the States. If what you wan to achieve is something akin to a "second vision", wouldn't something like glasses, googles or some other wearable item make more sense? You don't need extra animations for it, its easy to turn on and off, etc.

You don't need extra animations for it, its easy to turn on and off, etc. yeah being drunk was my least favorite way of "altering" her mental state... it would be funny if the explanation was; "un-fermented wine gets Miriam drunk" for some reason... I know it's silly but whatever. as I said, I'm not really into the drunk thing anyway. and I did say there should be different ways of altering her states

She could always drink Soma... pun intended. As it's still under academic debate what Soma is/was actually made of, maybe the ERSB would cut some slack.

Drunk might be pushing it since....you know, ESRB has no sense of humor. No, but in all seriousness, they'd probably ask it to be changed to "Mineral Water" or "Tingly Grape Juice." or "Uncle Tom's Stash." If you can't beat him, mess with them as much as possible.
Couldn't you just substitute "drunk" for "confused"? Practically the same thing....kinda, I've only been the latter personally. Monster Hunter has a "Confused" state where all your controls are inverted and, I have to say, always a bad day when that happens. Tis a sad day when you run way from the monster...only to find out you were running towards it.
But, I'm up for anything.

saberwolf94, censorship* hahaha... I don't really want her to get drunk. A buzz, maybe enough to get that "-_-" face and a slight sway that I think Arcueid mentioned, that would be funny and cute though lol. The only way I could see poison being beneficial is if you had equipped something like a SotN circlet that absorbed damage of that type as a heal, or if it gave you/a certain attack increased effectiveness against certain monsters. Similarly, a "cursed" state (separate from the crystal curse) akin to the Souls games where you have to be in that status to damage cursed enemies or ghosts...though that can be as much annoying and tedious as it is neat.

I can see how being cursed would be annoying, but I still think being in an altered state to see monsters to get their items, shards or to find hidden treasures and items.

It takes place in the 1700's I don't think drinking is a big deal. Especially not in a game that would typically have nudity in some of the enemies.
Anyways, I want all the typical states, especially stone ( and hopefully you see cracks in the stone as you break out)
It'd be cool if we got some new ones.

Drunk state is impossible. In Japan, the exibition of anyone under 21 years of old drinking any kind of alcohol at any media (including games, animes, mangas and such) is strictly forbidden. The game is made by japanese people and japan is a market they are aiming too.
About states to see other things, that's a good idea!

Yeah while drunkness itself might not be a good idea for a state that Miriam could go through, it's definitely a good and creative idea to implement. Has anyone here played an Indie point and click game called 'Fran Bow"? Essentially, Fran is an escaped mental patient who goes on a quest to find her missing cat, Mr. Midnight, and through the use of her medicative drugs, she is able to see two different worlds, and many puzzles can't be solved without the use of going through the other world via her medication.
Another part of Fran Bow that I found unique is that eventually she gains the ability to alter time itself, having to go through the 4 seasons of a year to solve certain puzzles. While it's not entirely impossible, I think that a cool idea would be for Miriam to gain a shard that allows her to go back in time, and traverse the castle differently. This could be the 'inverted castle' everyone is whining about, while also keeping things refreshing and innovative. When in the present, the castle will remain normal, and the typical demons will inhabit it, but maybe going back in time, will cause you to find stronger demons, and different items/rooms?? Maybe? :3

I personally forgot which one (so that must mean I did not create that thread) lol. but being able to change... oh yeah it was time... night and day, but I think there should be the seasons too and there should be a spell or ability to cycle through them in certain. and monsters should appear only in those specific times; seasons, night and day. But I would only be ok with this if the player would be able to control the cycles later in the game.
