So I get that the vast majority of people by now will easily meet the requires to play this game however, these requirements so way way over board for what this game if deliverying visually.
It's kinda staggering to me this game requires windows 7 64 bit. Like serious? We can't get a legacy version that supports XP. I know no ones using it anymore but, i'm always a fan of seeing things optimized as much as they can be.
If something like the Witcher 2 or Mass Effect 2 can run on Windows Xp it feels kinda ridiculous this cant. Especially since this game is getting a PSvita port. I've seriously got a legacy PC that from 2005 that runs Mass Effect 2 but since its so old it can run this.
Could I run it on one of my other vastly newer pcs? Yeah absolutely but still point remains why is this so unoptimized and requiring of way more resources than it needs at the moment? Im assuming because its such and early build.

Yea, probably very little optimization has been done yet. I'm not concerned considering a vita will be able to run it

I'm fairly certain this is just a product of the demo being very early and built to run on a specific machine at E3. It felt choppy in spots on my machine, and although what I have isn't amazing, it can run games at around 60fps like Overwatch and Titanfall at max settings. I just really hope the Vita port runs well. I need a reason to dust that creature off. I'll probably be mainly playing this game on PC/PS4, however.

Starting in less then a year windows 7 will be the oldest OS Microsoft themselves supports, and it seems silly to me to expect them to use resources getting the game to work on an OS that is going to be held together on the metaphorical equivalent of duct tape.
Though I'd be willing to put money on the fact that the real reason for this is that the team doesn't want to spend time and resources coding the game to work in a 32-bit environment, especially since doing so would cause them to have to limit the game in absolutely painful ways (if it would even be possible). To put it in the simplest terms the game would be limited to using about 1.5GB of RAM on 32-bit OS systems, and a 32-bit variant of the game would be limited to 4GB of RAM usable even on 64-bit systems.

I had to turn down the (res...? Not good with computer talk LOL) on the options screen to the lowest setting to have Miriam continue going at an ok speed LOL

Speaking only from the American side of the campaign, I'd be really interested to see what kind of hardware people on the forums are running the demo on, and how it ran for them. (And as somebody who played Fallout 4 on a three-year-old APU with integrated graphics, anybody running it below the listed minimums?)

The demo runs pretty good but i have no idea if the beta will, i still need to decide if iam going to build a new pc this year or wait for the ps4 neo and untill i hear more about the neo i am still on the fence.

I looked at it differently. After all it didn't say "Minimum requirements", but just "Requirements".

While I do think 'Optimization' means to make things run as smoothly as a possible across a variety of machines it might be a bit much to ask that it should run on XP. And there's a couple of reasons why.
Windows XP was first released 15 years ago. In tech terms that is ancient. And Mass Effect 2 and Witcher 2 were released during a time where providing XP support might have been easier to do. And the way a game looks doesn't mean diddly compared to what might be running under the engine. Take Mighty No 9 for instance. That game is widely regarded as looking pretty bad and it runs like crap on *everything*. That is the importance of optimizing: Making it run on as many things as possible without curtailing and hurting yourself in the process.
And here's the main issue: Unreal Engine 4 is 64 bit only. The reason being, as reltats pointed out, that 32-bits caps the amount of ram you'd have access to. So you're asking them to not only make it work on an OS that's 15 years old but to also kneecap the amount of ram they could use. It might be feasible for, say, a seperate team to give it a shot but having the main team do it might hurt way more than it helped.
