what's up, just a thought I had. I was thinking of the "forging" mechanic for Bloodstained. I just hope it is really fleshed out and organic instead of rigid (like curse of darkness)
I want to be able to try any combination out that I want, maybe "stumbling" onto a right recipe. Mind you I also want recipe books too... in essence I kinda want it close to (or as deep as) atelier games (it may be too much to ask, I know)
in curse of darkness the weapons were too fashioned after other weapons (I understand time limits and programming issues)... what really let me down was most of the really unique weapons were just one hit then it leaves you venerable for too long to be effective.

Every time i hear "forging" or "crafting", i'm reminded of the crafting system in FFXI, which was painfully slow and god-awfully expensive. Ever since then, crafting has been a major turn off for me. Crafting in WoW was less painful, but still monotonous. I'm hoping whatever system is designed for this game is slightly more enjoyable... perhaps even rewarding.

yeah I know what you mean, it can be that way... but I was thinking something along the lines of find sword + fire element = fire sword... something as simple as this would be awesome but I also want something in-depth for those of us who like to farm items/weapons/armor and find special recipes to make special armor and weapons...
do you play FFXIV? I want something way slightly less complicated then that. I want X+Y=Z and harder ones would be L+B+C+A=XZ
bottom line is, I want a more fleshed out forging that is not too hard but deep if you want it to be.

JeffCrossi played it for a little bit. i think it was a beta period before the relaunch... didnt get into it enough to get to the crafting portion.. i've sort've banned myself from MMOs because i have a bad habit of ignoring everything and only playing the game (for proof, my in game play clock on FFXI was well over 365 days, and that was only my first character) as long as the crafting system is optional, or as simple/straightforward as something like Diablo 2, I'll likely be fine with whatever is thrown into the game

Yeah I don't want the crafting to be too hard to grasp or too time consuming but I do want it to be deeper than we can imagine...
and about FFXIV I know what you mean about playing solo in the game lol (I do that too and my gild ). but if you ever want to start it just tell me and I will help you on dungeons.

wow this thread died already? is no one interested in the forging/crafting aspect of the game? I'm wondering if it will only be weapon forging, or will it be extended to armor or even costumes.

I'm honestly not a fan of crafting/forging systems, since it just becomes a grind to me. I really like exploring, and finding neat equipments.

I think Iga has been trying to do this for a while... it shows in Curse of Darkness and some in Dawn of Sorrow... I just want to know how deep it will be

Judging from the concept art, it will involve finding random drops that will probably be forged into a weapon of some kind. I don't know if that will include armors as well. It's about as deep as your typical crafting system. Perhaps you'll be able to use special element ores to give your favorite weapon an elemental advantage. Who knows?
I'm curious to know if only the strongest weapons can be gotten through crafting, kind of like Kingdom Heart's Ultima Weapon.

There you go, I loved the crafting in kingdom hearts it was elusive enough to be over looked but challenging enough to make it satisfying when you got the Ultima Weapon.

I think getting component drops from enemies and then forging those into items is better than just getting item drops from enemies. Iga also said that it'll be possible to customize equipment by putting enemy crystals into it, with different effects in different kinds of gear. Much like the socketing system as it first appeared in Diablo 2.

yeah that sounds cool XD like what if you add a fire element to an item making it morph into a completely different item (I wanna stay vague here so it could mean anything like weapons/armor... heck, even familiars...)

If this aspect is done right it will certainly be one of my favourite parts of the game. I am hoping for a crafting compendium that you can fill up as you go. You try random stuff together and see what it makes. Then it is entered into compendium; although why would you need to craft something more than once? Hopefully there is a bit of RNG in crafting and stats can vary. The format should be straight forward. Like "( ) + ( ) = ( )". You would have exponential growth and possibilities for every crafting material you found. Imagine multi-level crafting, where you combine two materials to make a stronger/different material. Turtle Shell + Hammer = ( ) Turtle Shell + Gloves = ( ) Turtle Shell + Fire Sand = Fire Shell Fire Shell + Hammer = ( )

Cale there you go, just like that XD and the compendium should also record your mistakes so we don't make them again. and we should also be able to find or buy new recipes. and also finding smithing journals that include things to combine and failures so we know what not to do

iggyg85 so the system had recipes and most if not all items weapons were convertible to raw material... I think it would be cool to be able to build up your smithing ability with master smith journals (or Hephaestus' notes) that teaches you new techniques of smithing. like when you first start, you can only convert a knife into scrap metal. but later, with the next set of notes your smith ability raises and you can convert a knife into scrap metal and scrap wood... Haven't played cross edge but i looked it up... I personally hope it's not like Rouge Galaxy... the weapon creation and forging in that games was too random.

What about forging familiars or even disposable demons like bomb demons That could be cool, like finding all the armor pieces for the knight familiar and combine it with a demon soul to create the knight, or something similar.
