Thing is that if the game lighning were brighter it would be better. For a fan made project this looks pretty nice.
Now, they will be hit with a C&D from Konami's lawyers. Pretty nice tho.
Classicvania for life. Also, I can see Bloodstained looking even better than the 2D concept now that I've seen this vid which is 2.5 D .

Thats really good, theres a few issues i have with it but nearly all of them are small tweaks to things like lighting so simon doesnt disappear so often (part of the darkness is youtube but simon disappears completely in sections), floaty jump and movement speed (i dont think cv1 was that floaty but id have to see it in action on later stages to know whether its good or bad for the platforming), i think the glowing gallon bucket of holy water is hilarious and the axe arc could go a little higher, but the visuals and lighting that are there really sets the mood and im glad they kept the camera at cv1 distance instead of bringing it in, the music stayed true to the original, all in all a really good start

Actually, as far as the lighting goes I kinda like it as a new twist. I mean think of it this way. If you were in a REAL "abandoned" castle with the only light sources as the moon out side and those few burning candles what you see is pretty much how the place would really look. It's basically trying to go for full on realism. I mean I even love the fact that AS REAL LIGHT SOURCES when he destroys the candles those areas go dark because the light source is gone. To me it adds a whole new dimension to the game play. I mean think about it. If it was REALLY Dracula's castle why would it be SO brightly and well lit? It would be dark and barely lit.
Now I do agree that the walk animation with the whip/morning star could use some work... Reminds me of some of the folks I see during summer time "power walking" outside. And, for as realistic as everything else is trying to be the morning star would CERTAINLY not maintain a perfectly circular form while being swung about like that. But hey, minor gripes right?

That is incredibly impressive. I wonder how many people that is? Because if that's the work of a small team, Konami should hire them to do a full modern remake of the original Castlevania, as it probably would be incredibly inexpensive and a good show of faith to their customers.
Not that Konami would actually ever DO something like that, because, as Jim Sterling so adequately put it, Konami is Konami, and Konami is the worst, but it's a nice pipe dream nonetheless.
Reality; that team has probably already been C&D'd by this point.

the lightning flashes and loss of light when you whip candles is a very nice thing, however this isnt a movie where you are not actively trying to platform, nor is it a game where the established premise of the game is navigating absolute darkness (or playing cv1nes first and memorizing every level), so having the character completely disappear doesnt help the gameplay, it hinders it, and how will this setup play out when you cant have the convenience of braziers in the foreground illuminating your character (how you could handwave having an ambient glow to simon and keep him visible in lvl 1) like lvl 4 (the way i personally would do it would be that he falls into a bed of bioluminescent mushrooms, and picks up some of their glow to keep him visible to the player, and then populate the fore and background with the same mushrooms to enhance the spooky natural aspect of the caverns without populating it with a ton of candles over the water sections so that you can see where the moving platforms are), each level could even address this problem slightly differently, showing a greater amount of planning put into balancing the gameplay with the atmospherics so they complement each other rather than one completely overtaking the other teal deer, great start, just needs some tweaks and theres the possibility of really coming up with interesting ways to address the character lighting realistically without destroying the atmosphere theyve put forth

Simon's whip is equipped with gunpowder that explodes on impact. I like it. I wondered why enemies exploded upon death. :3 That, and his throwing knives apparently have gunpowder as well.

Apparently, Konami issued a C&D to this guy. He had started a KS asking for funds to continue development? Mixed feelings on that. I mean, it is definitely Konami's property after all...and someone in a Castlevania FB group (Miguel Baez) mentioned this: "The demos are still avaible though, Konami allowed the develper to keep them despite he was forced to stop the development and publishing any new update online no longer yet he asured somebody in that company will do what he can to make possible this develpment to have an official license, interesting... dejawolf.itch.io/castlevania-1-remake"

I really like the double hit animation that was added. Really makes me hope that Miriam will get a semi-combo animation in Bloodstained. Instead of just slicing exactly the same way every time you press the button, she should have a 1-2 combo. No need for fancy long combos, just a simple left-to-right followed by right-to-left. This would especially make sense with a katana.
