With Corrin's/Kamui's imminent release in Smash 4, I was wondering if we had a thread for these upcoming games (yes... plural). Since this thread exists, I don't need to state the obvious. For those of you who don't know what Fire Emblem Fates. This is for you. FE Fates comes in different versions. Birthright, Conquest and Revelation. Each version is it's own story with only the first 5 Chapters being the same. Chapter 6 being the pivotal choice. Keep in mind that Revelation is a DLC that will be release sometime in March and that you need to own one of the two original games (Birthright or Conquest). For now, I'll just focus on the two immediate games. Conquest and Birthright. The basic premise is that your character must side with one of two nations. Nohr and Hosido. Do you side with Nohr and the adopted family that raised you as far back as you can remember or do you side with Hosido, the nation and people you were originally born into. Keep in mind that the difficulty between the two games are not the same. Birthright is more inclined for the casual audience, and Conquest are for those who want more of a challenge. Another key difference are the units and classes available. Each side have their own pool and they don't share. Revelation will take care of that. If you're buying a physical copy, pay attention to which edition you're getting. Conquest = Nohr, Birthright = Hosido. The Pair up system from Awakening is back but with some differences. Like Awakeing, There is a support system where you can have your units grow close, get married and have children. BTW. You can (but don't have to) have your Unit hook up with one of his/her siblings regardless of which version you play. There is even a gay guy in Conquest and a lesbian in Birthright. Personally. I'm getting Conquest. I welcome the challenge and if I wanted an easier game, I already have FE Awakening for that. Edit 1: Weapon Durability is gone (but not staves durability). We have an extra weapon type and the weapon triangle has new stuff in it. Sword/Tomes>>>Axe/Bows>>>Lances/Hidden Weapons>>>Sword/Tomes If you're confused what Hidden Weapons are, think kunais or daggers. And here you will find the list of classes in Fates

Getting Conquest Nohr. I love the idea from being the awesome power of the kingdom and being an iron fist. Pretty big FE fan. Though I started with Shadow Dragon and Awakening, I went back and played the original on the GBA (the american original one...). So it's safe to say I'm very excited for Fates. Really loved Awakening and can't wait to get more action

Looking forward to the game but of course as a person living in Europe I have no idea as to *when* I'll get to play it. When I do though I plan on going through all campaigns. Birtright > Conquest > whatever the name was for the third one. No such thing as too much fire emblem.
(In my thoughts I like to believe I'd play through the game keeping the results if someone dies along the way but I know I'm weak, I'm probably going to repeat missions until I do them without deaths)
edit: Come to think of it, was it revealed how they plan on justifying playable children this time around?

I intended to get the three-in-one Revelations version, but Gamestop was sold out on it. So ultimately I reached the decision to put Fates off for a month or two, dedicating the money I saved for Fates to Pokken Tournament.
When I do eventually get the game, I'll be siding with Nohr on my first playthrough. As a veteran of the franchise (been with it since it went international with the 7th game) the 'harder' Nohr route will probably make me feel right at home. Plus, the Nohr cast strikes me as generally more likable. And they have werewolves.
As for supports, I'll do what I did in Awakening, and give the characters 'amusing' spouses on the first playthrough. On my first run, prince Leo of Nohr shall marry Luna. I'm sure the overly competitive girl will appreciate a husband who is described as 'a perfectionist who can handle any task flawlessly'.

edit: Come to think of it, was it revealed how they plan on justifying playable children this time around? That's a good question. I don't know either. On another note, I just realized something as to why Nintendo went with 3 different routes approach for FE Fates. I could be completely wrong but Nintendo is approaching the story with elements akin to a Visual Novel. You have a basic premise with their pieces and variables and how a single change/choice can bring about different stories but with the same characters. Similar to the Fate, Unlimited Blades Work and Heaven's feel paths in the Fate/Stay Night Visual Novel. And since Fire Emblem is very story focused, it isn't a bad idea to pursue.

I don't know the specifics since I'm trying to avoid spoilers, but when marriage and children were revealed for Fates, it was hinted that they came from an 'outside world'.
At the very least, I trust Intelligent Systems to not be so creatively bankrupt as to use time travel two games in a row.

Since the Outrealms is the multiverse of Fire Emblem, I wouldn't be surprised if I see kids going "By the way, I'm your kid from an alternate world." Marvel much? EDIT: I've made a spreadsheet so that I can calculate Kamui/Corrin's initial stats and growth rate. Keep in mind that this is Conquest focus and will focus on the base class and the Nohr advanced class. If you click the cell next to flaw/asset, you'll a scroll down list for easy stat swapping. don't mind the lazy interface though. FE Fates.xlsx (14.73 KB)

Been looking forward to FE Fates for quite some time. Like Scuttlest, I planned to get the special edition that includes all 3 routes of the game, but it's been sold out for who knows how long. So I'm settling for the Birthright version of the game for now and I'll get the other 2 routes downloaded down the road.
With Corrin being relieased for Smash 4 tomorrow, that'll help my itch a bit, but I've really been craving new stuff for FE lately. Not too much longer now...
Edit: After checking the E-shop several times as of this edit, I don't see the downloads. I think I recieved troll info about how soon they'd be out. Either that, or Nintendo is taking their sweet time.
Edit 2: Ok, it's all out now. Was for awhile actually as of this edit. Corrin is awesome. Makes me want Fire Emblem Fates that much more.

It's a good thing I pre-ordered the Special Edition.
I'll be getting both Birthright/Hoshido & Conquest/Nohr, in addition to Revelations (when it's available).

So to you people in US I direct my question - is there a digital equivalent of buying both main paths in one go, or is that only available when buying a hardcopy?

You can download the Birthright path on the Conquest version, and vise-versa, last I've heard. I think the Special Edition will include both paths right away, but that's physical.

If I understand it right, You'll pay one path at full price but you'll be able to buy the other path as DLC and at a discounted price. Example. I'm getting Conquest and I'll be able to get Birthright for 20$ (regular is 40$) from the eShop. Revelation will be another 20$

I really enjoy the Fire Emblem Series and somehow just found out about the new games when I ran to Gamestop to grab a Mew. I am hoping the games are good but I always have such rotten time picking out one from a set of games.

I am hoping the games are good but I always have such rotten time picking out one from a set of games. The best advice I feel I can give you is to not listen to all the whiners and naysayers complaining about the changes/cuts to NA's version of the game which are minor as far as the gameplay is concerned. As for which version to get, read the first post on this thread. If you still have questions, ask them here. I or maybe someone in this community will answer. The whole point of my creating this topic is to inform people so that they know which version they want/might like.

time for me to shake my walking stick like the old man i am
Awakening completely burned me out on FE. FE7 is my most played game of all time but Awakening being the grindiest grind I've ever ground is just to much. Fates (Conquest in particular) looks like it fixes the problems by only giving you two promotion routes. I just want to see harder difficulty modes not be stupidly avaricious with their EXP. Seriously, I just killed an enemy with every stat maxed and I only got 8 experience? Bugger off Awakening. FE has always felt like a series where less is more and Awakening just tries to cram too much in for my taste. Fates toning it down while altering pair-up attacks seems neat. Maybe I'll get it.

I've played Path of Radiance and a bit of the GBA Fire Emblem and Radiant Dawn. I also did play Awakening too so I'm looking forward to Fates, I'll be siding with Nohr first and if I decide I like the game enough I'll pick up the other two versions.

Regarding censorship...
The 'petting' has been altered. In the Japanese version you could pet any character to raise their support level. In the English version, you can call a character into My Room, see their higher res 3-D model and hear their spoken line, but you can't pet them. However, petting is in if the character you called into your room is your spouse.
I actually like that. I remember when the petting was first announced, I was hanging around Fire Emblem Awakening's Miiverse community, and there was some tense discussion with strong opinions both ways regarding the petting. During this, I maintained a view that I could get behind getting touchy-feely with who you married (and this was before marriage was confirmed for Fates), but wasn't too fond of the idea of getting touchy-feely with any old member of the army regardless of support level. So, looks like my view on the matter more or less won in the west, haha.
