Edit- Also going back to the topic of Version 1.0, were you there on the day where the servers went down, being there in the final moments as the moon was falling, and the End of Era started playing? How did you feel? As a non-player I feel the need to ask - what is the story behind this? Because as written it sounds as if devs did a colony drop on the setting between versions Well, basically this, since Version 1.0 was busted beyond all saving, and took it upon themselves to rebuild the game from scratch, Square decided to release the final story mission for V1.0, where the moon was slowly descending to the earth. It didnt matter what you did during those final hours, the moon kept falling in real time, at the same time, a woman with a haunting melody can be heard in the background. As as you can imagine, players from around, stuck around for those final moments, its kinda like sitting around for the end of the world. People, friends, players, sitting around waiting for death. And when the countdown finally was over, players were greeted with this. Apart from this being the most prettiest piece of eye candy Square has put out to date, this was a graceful way to bow out from a bad performance. The game was going offline, and Square puts so much effort into setting their game on fire, and was it an amazing fire to look at. I've been harsh to Square many times in my life, but the way they handled the termination of V1.0 and A Realm Reborn was MASTERFULLY done.

Because as written it sounds as if devs did a colony drop on the setting between versions I've only watched it on youtube, but it seemed like it was pretty epic. After the last patch, players started noticing that the moon was getting bigger and bigger over time, or rather, closer. In the final hour it was gigantic and everybody knew what it meant. Players gathered together, awaiting the end, and right as the time came, the game faded to black, and a cutscene played showing everyones hopeless struggles.

You mention that 1.0 was broken beyond saving, are there any places where I could read up on what went wrong?

I still haven't gotten around to purchasing the Heavensward expansion. Hopefully sooner rather than later, my Mi'qote White Mage will venture to new lands.

I feel my resolve being tested. I... ...welp. My wallet is going to hate me. So jokes aside unless I do a 180-turn on the idea *again* I'll probably end up buying this game tommorow. Why am I posting this, well two reasons. One is to check if someone here plays on PS4 and ask if it's true that I can buy a keyboard, a mouse and use these instead of a controller. The other is because going over other forums I learned that there is, or at least was some recruit-a-friend scheme giving goodies to both new players and person that does the recruiting. Assuming that still stands true and there is someone here from EU servers, well... wouldn't mind benefiting from that

I recommend you do, the newest update is coming in about a couple of weeks, adding new story, dungeons and the like. Although I have yet to hit Heavensward right now. Also Something tells me you would like the Astrologian Class.

After two hours of downloading and two more of patching I managed to make a character and have a quick look around. Pretty game thus far. I was wondering, I think I saw a suggestion somewhere that I shouldn't do too many side-quests but leave them for levelling other classes, and instead focus on main storyline for now? How accurate is that?

Since Heavensward launched, quest EXP rewards were re-balanced so that completing just the main story required quests is enough to level up one class to reach the expansion content, where previously you'd need to complete as many side quests as possible in addition to main quests.
Remember, though, that there are a some side quests which unlock important features, such as additional dungeons, the weekly challenge log, gaining a chocobo companion, and using gear dyes and glamours, among others.

I was wondering, I think I saw a suggestion somewhere that I shouldn't do too many side-quests but leave them for levelling other classes, and instead focus on main storyline for now? How accurate is that? Depends on your preferences. I believe you level up fairly well, sans sidequest exp. You can do levies and guildheists, run your daily quests, farm FATEs, etc. Food buffs help, as do buffs from any exp accessories such as the friendship circlet or moogle cap (up to a point). If you're in a FC that has exp buffs, that helps too. You don't really need the sidequests, but they can certainly help. Another tip I've seen is about gil farming. Simply take the money for every main 1.0 quest and you'll wind up with about 300,000 gil by the end, and a materia worth a good bit too (if memory serves). Of course, the gear is nice too, but you can just make that yourself, which helps level your crafting and gathering classes. lol If you ever need any help, just let me know. I'll do what I can.

Im a little over a month in and im 35/20, running dungeons has been awesome, and if youre savvy or lucky, you can use the greens you get to outfit multiple classes in prep for leveling (like magic set, war set, and hvy set), also if youre decent with healer or tank you have almost no wait for queue and get bonus xp each run

Tank>Healer>DPS This is the order of wait times going in ascending order, and amounts of stress involved going in descending order. DPS generally don't have nearly as long wait times as they used to, it's a lot better these days, but it's still considerably longer than either healer or tank. At the same time, those two roles also provide a lot of stress. The healer has minimal stress for the lack of wait time it provides, but the tank provides a whole lot of stress just to get the shortest wait time. Once you get far enough into endgame, the stress Healer provides can start to match the tank, but will drop considerably as better gear is released over time. IIRC the bonus exp is only for the daily roulette, in which the role with the lowest number of players in it will be up for bonus exp. This includes DPS, but almost never is due to the high volume of players selecting dps. Healer and Tank often change out in roulette. The roulette also provides a bonus just for doing it, only once each day. Greens are generally the best gear. Some greens are tradeable, but are far and few in between. If you're lucky you can rely on greens your whole way through, so long as you get an appropriate weapon about every 10 levels or so. Astaroth specifically Haukke Manor was the original "shit is getting real" dungeon, but is likely a cake walk now. Most of the dungeons until past level 50, are probably generally cake walks, depending on the density of your server. Quite a few of the 15-50 dungeons are either based on or taken almost completey from pre-2.0 content, but dungeons past 2.0 are mostly original, minus the "hard" versions of old dungeons, which are actually quite different from their counterparts. The Lost City of Amdapor is by far my favorite dungeon, and I'd like to know what you think once you you've experienced all the dungeons up to that point. If you ever get to a point where you're worried about not knowing what to do in a boss encounter or dungeon mechanic, MTQcapture is a youtube channel that houses a large amount of FFXIV guides, and is the go-to for the community. They're very professionally done, though you may have to rewatch some of the more complicated ones.

i.... HATE... coerthe, i cant stand fanatics and douchecanoes, and they managed to cram 3 games worth of it into one area, i do not want to save the vast majority of these people, stupid story mission -_- have to give squeenix props though for doing a really good job with it, they put in just enough good people i dont want to just raze the place to the ground and build a mall full of tacky souvenier shops
rest of the game so far is full of interesting characters though, and i wish i could take over haukke manor and turn it into my summer home ^_^
