I like the bright stairs and corridor. This isn't a horror game, and I'd like to see my environment quite clearly. There's no reason to obscure it in darkness, even if it is realistic. Realistically the room would have been lit better.

I've been looking at the shaders some more (setting various ones as my desktop background, etc) and I notice that if the view is zoomed out, I like characters 1 and 3 about the same. It's when you zoom in on Miriam that I prefer character 1. I believe this is backwards from what most folks are saying. So, overall I still have to go with B3C1, but C3 is going to work just fine if that is what IGA goes with. I agree with your somewhat unusual assessment. I like character 3 much more overall, but I actually think it looks the best zoomed out, much better than 1. Close up, 3 feels a bit more out of place actually (but it's still beautiful, so I don't care). Character 1 zoomed out looks kinda "plastic" to me, so I really don't like it much.

I'm torn between Char3/BG1 and Char3/BG3....by far my favorites, but I personally feel they should pale her skin tone just a tad more.

Man. . . looking back at the concept art, I think we've come a long way already! Even the concept art looked pretty good. Wouldn't mind if they used that for the DS version or something. Well, I guess I don't conform to the main viewpoint as expressed in the poll (C3/B3), I feel the improvement made to the realistic look of Miram's character (C1) is far better with either Background (as either one of the backgrounds is really more or less a palette swap, at least at first glance) then her stylistic GTA depiction, which I find quite jarring against either background. It's very obvious from the far away screen shots, which is also where the game will mostly be viewed from.
As much as I really like the look of Mariam in C3 (I really do, I agree with thrashinuva, her curves/body look amazing, but that's the nature of that style, the shading highlights her assets in much greater detail, it's a beautiful style of art) , it doesn't work when you have her against a background that is visually far different in concept. Did anyone else really notice this immediately upon viewing the new screen shots or was it just me?
Just go and google a bunch of GTA5 artwork for example and look at the style, it's exactly the same. Now look at the surrounding artwork in those GTA shots, it matches perfectly with the style of the game. In fact, look at any of the other screen grabs people have posted in this very thread and you should all notice that they all match the overall theme/design of the surrounding art and thus feel/look aesthetically pleasing (at least to me), even if for example I agree with castledan and that DXC looks drab, at least it's consistent in it's artistic approach, whereas with C3/B3 I see a cartoonish depiction of Miriam against a realistic looking environment, it's out of whack.
So what concerns me, is that I see a whole lot of love for C3/B3 when the character art jars so vividly with the background art.
Honestly if we stick with C3 I would want to see the background art more in line with the original concept art (posted above by Cale for example).
If I was choosing, it would be B3 due to tone/detail, but I struggle with character appearance, I really do, they would need to make C3 Miriam fit into the world far better then what is presented to us currently for it to sit right with me. Make no mistake I am happy and IGA/Inti have made great strides so far, so at the end of the day I believe things will continue to get better as we see more. They seem to be making the right decisions the further we get along. At the moment, I love the mashup pic of Miriam of both shaders that Ciel posted, it's the best of both worlds, we get some of that great pop from the style from C3 and still have Miriam looking as if she fits in the world surrounding her, pretty awesome! :-)

Silver6986 I agree that C3 doesn't work with the backgrounds as it currently stands. I prefer C3 over C1 though because of the bold art style. Luckily they aren't done yet. I am hoping they change background more than character shader for the final product. C3 could use a bit more polishing too. The colours are still too vibrant and Miriam should be a bit paler (IMO). I am sure by the end it will be more balanced, blend well while still having contrast that doesn't scream photoshop. I love that we have a multitude of opinions on this.

well remember, as far as color goes you can supposedly change miriams skin and outfit color with the customizer, so making her paler and the dress darker blue or hot pink or watermelon or like the concept art is totally doable

The crazy thing to me is... I always said what would be beautiful is if they could get the look of Lament Of Innocence into a 2.5d space ( yes, the visuals were repetitive but the art design was great) The first shader pics were very simple but with the new pics they seriously nailed EXACTLY what I was saying. It's gritty but colorful and detailed. I will repeat these same words over and over till we get something new...sadly :/
