After mulling it over for a while I think I'm definitely in favor for Background Shader 1. Background Shader 3 seems too bright and blown out in some spots? Background Shader 1 looks to give it the right ambiance. Also I feel it doesn't contrast as well with Miriam regardless if you use Character Shader 1 or 3 - that is to say she blends in a bit too much in Background Shader 3. Character Shaders are a bit harder to figure out. I think I overall lean towards Shader 3 (better approaches style of the art, will age better) though I appreciate the softness of Shader 1. Close up, in some respects and on some parts of Miriam's model Shader 3 looks a bit too sharp. Both character shaders look good from afar, the gap doesn't seem super huge. I wish we could've gotten some shots at typical camera zoom though. As I said before that could really influence decision making. As an aside, does Miriam's left shoulder look.....small to anyone else or is that just me? Like her left deltoid muscle is atrophied. its the pose, her armpit is clipping into her torso a tiny bit so it makes her upper arm look small, thats also what that odd black spot is between her torso and arm

I can see some of the concerns, but I still feel background 3 looks better. The colors and shading look nicer and Miriam's model looks like she belongs in it. The character 3 background 1 combo makes her look out of place. It's jarring. And there's no way I'm voting for character 1 over character 3, so 3/3 remains my favorite.

I've been looking at the shaders some more (setting various ones as my desktop background, etc) and I notice that if the view is zoomed out, I like characters 1 and 3 about the same. It's when you zoom in on Miriam that I prefer character 1. I believe this is backwards from what most folks are saying. So, overall I still have to go with B3C1, but C3 is going to work just fine if that is what IGA goes with.

As I tried to point out before, the stairs are only bright in BG3 because, for some reason, on BG3 they placed the light source on the left side of the image where as on BG1 they placed it on the right side of the image. Thus the stairs are much brighter on background 3 and the blood fountain is much brighter on background 1. It's more obvious on background 3 though because the stairs are much closer to the light source than anything is on the right side of the image. I don't know why they did this, because it's only going to effect something in this particular image at this particular angle. I would imagine in the final version of the game, the lighting would be more ambient and less fixed, so the stairs using the shading in BG3 wouldn't look nearly so bright. At the very least, they should have put the lighting source on the same side of the image for both backgrounds. Especially since the unreasonable brightness of the stairs is probably, in my guesstimate, the main reason most people prefer BG1 to BG3.
