I'm perfectly fine with Dracula not being involved with Bloodstained. While it was pitched as a Castlevania successor, I'd much rather see the game carve out its own identity and distance itself from story details or public domain characters like that. But if there's a need for a Dracula-like character that ties all of the games together, I can see Gebel filling that role. We don't know a whole lot about the lore at this point, but I think it could be explained in-universe by saying his crystal curse fully consumed him, making the first game his origin story. I think it's pretty much the same thing if you think about it. The evil person who controls the castle who wears a cape, is losing most of his humanity and hating humans for what they have done= Dracula/Gebel The hero who is effected by the curse but not fully overtaken by it goes into the demon castle to put a stop to all of this Gebel/Dracula feels this character Miriam/Alucard belongs in the castle with him but they don't want to be apart of it. I mean the similarities are there to the point of it's weird that they don't use vampires but at the same time I guess it gives us the similar vibes anyways.

I'm fine with no Dracula. In fact, I welcome it. Using Dracula was a cool hook for the Castlevania games but kept their stories (and final bosses) kind of predictable. I want something new from Bloodstained.

I accepted that Castlevania and all it's characters including their Dracula forms died with Konami.

Not much I can add to this thoughtful discussion, but I will say this...
Aria of Sorrow was a step beyond Dracula, and it was a good step.

Oh, yeah..the Sorrow series did amazing stuff! It is my favorite in the series, really. I believe in IGA and I know he will not disappoint me. Bloodstained can be a great game with its own story and characters. I am really excited about it, I still cannot believe this game is being made right now I wished for something like this for many years, since Ecclesia..

This wasn't a problem for me from the start. Look at Order of Ecclesia, a pretty well-received game and a strong Igavania for most. The Belmonts are entirely absent and I feel that if Dracula and his castle were replaced with another demonic entity and its castle, I wouldn't have minded strongly either way. I would have missed Demon Castle Dracula, but not as much the man himself. At that point, OoE minus the count, you have a game that is pretty similar conceptually to Bloodstained, which is what I had originally imagined this game was going to be from learning about the character and the basics of gameplay. I was excited for that, because the Metroidvania style of game is IGA's definite strong point, and I always felt like OoE was a step forward in evolving the formula of the games.
If it's more Symphony than Order, that's certainly fine too. Interestingly enough, according to that interview shmuplations translated, the game originally was a countryside-traveling game. Had a male protagonist, though. I wonder what he looked like...and if Zangetsu or Johannes have any remants of that design...

I agree about the fact that dracula wasn't really anything to the castlevania franchaise beyond being a fancily dressed boss who teleports and shoots fireballs. he doesn't really contribute much to the game beyond sitting in his throne waiting to be defeated. I think what made castlevanias were the environment that dracula hangs out in, he has good taste in landscape/furnature. Assuming gebel has this quality too, I honestly don't think it will matter terribly.
One of hte reasons why Id idnt like lords of shadow was that even though the visual fidelity was jaw-drop good. The whole swampy jungle scenery got old fast, and even the castle portions were a disappointment because it was some abandoned dilapitated castle without any furnishings, then you get a desert, whoop. That game just craps on castlevania and what it stands for. I mean they even got rid of the music, what the crap.

Just because Dracula is gone does not mean they could not add other vampires into bloodstained.

Also, somebody had better be teleporting and shooting fireballs. The IGA boss? Maybe? They just have to find a way to make it somewhat threatening again. SotN Dracula's fireballs are, well...Richter has like a hundred ways to deal with them lol.

Just because Dracula is gone does not mean they could not add other vampires into bloodstained. Dracula wasn't even the first vampire in Castlevania. Walter Bernhard was. There are plenty of more original and interesting vampires that could come about. Bloodstained will be Draculackin!

It's not like Konami owns vampires or something. I still feel that Dracula or a vampire should take the role of DEATH for this series. So whoever the main villain is I guess Gebel ....Dracula would be the underling...

Hey, that's a cool idea...instead of Death, some kind of other high-level boss that also happens to be a vampire.
