The one gameplay element I really want to see implemented in terms of the platforming for Bloodstained is the ability to grapple and swing from platform to platform with either a whip or a magic thread from Miriam’s curse markings. I want it to be skill-based, too, like it was in Super Castlevania IV, where you have to manually latch onto something, build momentum, and then time your release. (If it simply functions as a QTE, "slingshot-jump," or a "reel-me-in" Hookshot like in Zelda, that's not as engaging or versatile.) By having it like Super Castlevania IV, it would really add another dimension to platforming, which in turn adds another dimension to level design and exploration options. (It might even serve to speed up backtracking, or be used as a "safety net" in vertical areas where you might fall a good distance, so that you don't have to be perfect in climbing and re-climbing.) And when I say Super Castlevania IV, I do not mean the idea can't be taken further and evolved; I just want it to at least be as engaging as that older game.
...And since we're forging specific weapons in this game, maybe certain whips link to certain terrain types to swing to secret areas. You could extend that to the swords, too, in terms of breaking walls.

I'm all for the grapple swing. I hadn't thought of that, but it would be amazing in this game!

The previous thread is pretty old (nearly 4 months). After that much time has passed I think it's OK to have a new thread on the subject Anyways, yeah, a grapple swing would be cool, and the idea you had about different types of swings, Richter, is even cooler!

Dvv: I didn't mean to step on any toes with this. I looked at the first page of threads, and didn't see anything like this. So, I assumed there was no active topic. If the mods want, we can merge the threads. I just hope the development team has actually seen these kinds of discussions, as I haven't heard anything about this type of gameplay element yet. That said, I don't want it to be as simplistic as a Magnes ability. While not terrible, that's too boring, in my opinion. Bloodstained needs to capitalize on all of its heritage, not just its recent history.

I like and support this fully. Though in have to say the only expierence I have with the whop swings was in CvHD on the 360 playing as Julius. If this were to be implemented I'd be happy just for the sake of being able to circumnavigate in unorthodox ways. It would add a level of replquability to the game and could even be an alternate characters ability as opposed to miriams strait forward approach. Think SotN Alucard vs Richter play through.
And yeah 4month old threads are essentially dead as long as its not informational / should have been stickyed. Decent ideas.

This was my favorite part of Castlevania 4. I don't think it was done that well in Castlevania Bloodlines though. They almost had it, but I found it too finicky at times.
Weapons factoring into platforming would be absolutely grand. A more recent example is what Indivisible plans to do. Right now they have the axe to break walls. They also want to add a bow and arrow that acts as an extra step or a chain to swing from ceilings.
More games should do this.

I'd actually love this. I think there should be a relic that allows your weapon to attach to objects high up. Think of it like Lament of innocence, like the poles and you hit the attack button when jumping at the right time to swing to the next one and click it again to swing to the next. It should be quick and snappy. It should feel like it's own little mini-game.
Although it'd be an amazing ability to climb one tower that can't be accessed at the beginning.

Retractable hookshot style chain whip would be a cool item for traversal.
