well, unlike most dlc like ea/ubi cutting half the game and selling it back a few weeks after launch as dlc or re5 selling you a multiplayer mode as dlc THATS ON THE FUCKING DISK!..., this feels like content that probably never got further than "hey wouldnt it be cool if we did X? yeah but lets file that under to be used later" and under normal circumstances would go into the next game, and remember they waited until a bit after the game had gone gold to even announce it (that means the game is done, off to print, and now the dev team either gets downsized, parted off into new projects, or continues work on a day one patch or dlc) this is dlc done very well, they give you a little bonus thank you at launch (a shirt, a couple chests with a few items) and then they are releasing content 5-10 MONTHS down the line (which smartly falls in line fairly well with the 'summer drought' and the holiday season) whichll renew peoples interest in the game and give them more stuff to do after theyve likely played through a large portion of the game, as well as help bring in more sales during those periods i mentioned the extra upside to this is theres also still a handheld team that could be working on another zelda, so we may be seeing an approach that can keep the quality of zelda at its high level and not have massive gaps between titles without putting too much stress on the dev teams and aonuma, you have a major release every few years thats a big 3d title, with little bits of dlc scattered about the year after release while aonuma and the head team begin the planning and the dev team stays to work on fun dlc before beginning production on the next big game, meanwhile the handheld team can be working on 1-2 games that come out in that gap similar to how link between worlds and triforce heroes came out between skyward and botw so im excited for this, theyre using it as an extension of a great game as opposed to a cheap way to milk a few extra bucks out of you, and if it catches on we may see dlc coming back to being a good thing again If it's so, it's a healthy approach. That said, a DLC is still a DLC. I must admit I was surprised Nintendo ended doing that after a long time of "nope, no way, we won't go for it!"... but again Super Mario Run and Fire Emblem Heroes are also a sign of changing times. Sorry for the delay in reply. Oh and when it comes to Zelda 1, never forget the idea that you were quite lost and that about every bush, every statue or rock could hide a secret. There was no hint on where to use the candle or bomb either for secret rooms either... unless... you called the Nintendo Club hot-line or were the happy rich kid able to buy the magazines containing the maps and hints on beating bosses and all. Happy Times. The first Zelda I owned was the second and I can't see so much why it was so despised. It's good, very confusing though, I admit. I could finish it, no problems on it. Still, my favorite remains Link's Awakening. So much poetry, the line between dreams and reality... a search for truth, a mixed feeling of both happiness and dread, a true trial of courage. I am still fond of Marin, too. Just imagine if that game was on SNES, it would have been so much more recognized.

Loving BotW so far. However - and I know this is an old complaint - it is insanely frustrating that I have Japanese voices on the cartridge, I have English subtitles on the cartridge, yet there is still no way for me to play Japanese audio with English subs.

Poor Link, yet that was hilarious. I know it would have worked in the old games. This seriously shows how much you can't be cheap in your attacks anymore (though it certainly was a great idea! It's a superb warning to everyone) I guess that monsters were prepared to all sorts of attacks after all that time passed living around the ruins. I would certainly enjoy the game, as I enjoy more realistic approaches (yet nothing about hunger, other needs and time limits to complete dungeons). You really never know what's around, what you can grab or lose when exploring or fighting monsters. I could say that breakable weapons annoy me a tad, but there's aplenty of them, so...

I just wanted to come here and say.
If there was ever a road map on how to make an IGAVANIA in 3D Zelda Breath Of The Wild has shown that road map. It's crazy how much the game feels like it could be cut from the same cloth as SOTN. Different armors with different attributes, loads of different weapons, shields, changing the color of your clothes ( like the capes), open ended environment to explore, power ups to get you to locations you can't reach, large variety of enemies.
If Konami gave the 3D castlevania team a ridiculous budget i would just say do what BoTW did because that to me is an IGAVANIA in 3d.

CastleDanI always envisioned a 3D Castlevania as having movement closer to the Prince of Persia series, but with less traps(or maybe not if we're talking Oldvania inspired), more enemies, and acquirable skills to give you new traversal abilities.

That's really frustrating. The only thing you can do for now is do a full playthrough in English, then set the console's system language to Japanese and do another playthrough. Hope Nintendo wises up and adds in a basic function like a Language Options. There's also the modding route when the Switch inevitably gets cracked by hackers.

As much as it'd pain me to say but Konami should just give Castlevania to Nintendo and let them have it. They would give it the budget and I could see them doing something like BOTW to it.
Imagine exploring the world of castlevania, the towns, villages, churches, a main castle....in an open world setting. It'd be a damn dream.

metroid doesnt lend itself as readily to fully open world, its better served by tight cramped mazes that you and create an oppressive atmosphere
that said, i do think injecting some open world elements, physics, and ai zelda has into the vein of the metroid prime series as a sort of open dungeon experience could be awesome, like instead of every room having brightly colored doors that scream "HERES THE NEXT ROOM!" you have to explore and remember "oh, thats the same strata of rock i saw get blasted open earlier when that missile upgrade enemy barged in, i wonder if i can do that too" all while fighting off heavily armored fauna by grapple beaming a loose rock into their backside to stun and flip them so you can dash/jump to a better vantage point above and shoot at their less protected underside before they right themselves and start attacking again

Though I'm one of the many who'd love to see a new 2D Metroid. Of course, in the classic "Metroidvania" style.

oh id looooooooooooooooooooove a new 2d metroid as well, and some open world elements could be infused to expand on the options available for the exploration and combat side, but on a lesser scale since you are naturally limited to either a 2d or 2.5d plane of exploration (like using marumari to go into a hole in the background and navigating around a blockage to get to a powerup)

Why would that pain you to say, though? They're going to -have- to give it to somebody for a game to be made, and Nintendo getting a hold of it could be among the best options. After all, Zelda 1 has been stated as one of IGA's biggest inspirations for SotN, and consequently the main game series that is talked of as being "modern Castlevania", the Souls games, are quite a bit reminiscent of the original Zelda too.
I'd definitely be fine with it, and amusingly enough, you would often hear people say the same thing about them taking Mega Man from Capcom after the great handling of the character they did for Smash 4. A new Mega Man game is looking almost as unlikely as a new Castlevania these days, for no good reason, far as I can tell, unless they're just still being butts about the falling out. It certainly hasn't stopped them from celebrating with merchandise and things about/for Mega Man, almost everything except a game lol
ON TOPIC hehe: I will get wild breath eventually. May have it right now after that somewhat odd lunch I just had

I've just been thinking about how similar the new zelda is to something like SOTN. To me it's the 3D metroidvania design utilized in an open world.

I regret checking the GameFAQs board now, and I'm glad I don't have an account on that site.
A lot of people are STILL arguing about Breath of the Wild's timeline placement.

I just completed Link's Awakening since that was the only GB game I didn't play strangely enough. Loved the charming 8 bit graphics and characters. Got attached to Marin pretty quickly. The photo that gets taken when Marin falls on Link had me laughing. Marin Now I feel depressed. That's the first Zelda game where I didn't want to win. Wind Fish be damned... The secret ending didn't make me feel any better either.

Heh..yeah... I recently revisited those forums (gamefaqs) myself for the first time in a while. I remember why I left them in the first place now. ¬_¬
On a more related note, I found the Master Sword in BotW! :D (I'm still to weak to pull it out though) ;;
