I would love Miriam to sound mature. Not like a little girl or anything or those weird soft anime voices. I also envisioned Shanoa from OoE with a strong voice, like I once imagined Samus befor Nintendo/Team Ninja butchered her. No Rei Ayanami voice types. Give me a stronger kind of woman, not a Waifu type of main character which are voiced like whiny, needy little girls or young women. I guess that with teh voice I expect some attitude, not the usual damsel in distress character voice. This, of course is my opinion.

- It may be useful to do a brainstorming exercise to think who are y'all favorite female protagonists are, what made them work and why you liked them. Characters like Motoko Kusanagi (Stand Alone Complex version) or Balsa from Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit are characters that skew older than Miriam but are among my favorites in anime and I would probably think of them first if I were doing such a brainstorming session. Looking back to Castlevania, Shanoa is probably the most (one of the most) popular female characters in the series. I'm a big fan of hers but even then, though I understand the story reasons why, the whole "no emotions" bit was a bummer. I would've liked it if she was more expressive (again I point to the fact I appreciate then even with all the nonsense Miriam has and will have to do with that she can still smile/laugh/maybe joke, etc. per the screenshots and art)
List of favorite female leads? We just counting video games or all media? In no particular order Games. Shanoa (yes obvious) Samus (liked her better with green hair... just saying), Errthing else. Motoko Kusanagi Lt. Ellen Ripley Rin Toosaka (call her secondary all you want without her its not a show) Sir Integra Fairbrooks Wingates Hellsing was thinking there'd be more and there probably should be but I'm sleepy. Integra had a strong, commanding voice. Heh, I would love to see this.

Again, y'all call the shorts, I'm just a single dude/backer on the internet. I just felt I should offer my opinion As an aside, I mentioned it earlier, consider British VA if it at all makes sense/sounds interesting to you guys/isn't financially prohibitive.
Now that I think about it I hope they don't make them use British accents in the English version. Even if they're supposed to be in London I'd rather have just the north america/canada standard English accent am used to in other Castlavania games. It'd be a shame if they hire Crispin Freeman or Dave Wittenberg and they make them use a posh or cockney accent. We actually talked about this at work. Early English (18th century and earlier) sounded closer to contemporary American accent, or at least it sounded drastically different from the current British accent (Queen's English). Either way it would be historically inaccurate so we figured we should just stick with North American VAs (not exclusive). So is the linguistic phylogenetic argument that after American and British English diverged that British English moved further from the most recent common ancestor of American and British English than American English did? Interesting. Do you have a source (not because I doubt you but because I want to read it myself - this seems interesting)?. I kind of just wanted a narratively justifiable reason to switch up the talent pool but I of course trust you here. Good on y'all for actually doing some research on this. I mean as a fantasy game you could've just done whatever to a degree but this of course is goo too.

When I was in high school I had a theater teacher who mentioned that today's American English sound closer to historical/Shakespeare era/18th century British English. In college, a history professor I had talked about some of the reasons that came to be was because of changes in how British schools taught students how to speak, standardized dialect in BBC radio broadcasts, and the cultural isolation caused by the USA and Britain being divided by an ocean. The same theater teacher also felt that the worst thing you can do in a play (in particular, Shakespeare) is fake a British accent. Please listen to my old theater teacher and don't have NA VAs fake British accents in Bloodstained. Unless Liam O'Brien is cast and you tell him to use the same voice he used for Lloyd in the English dub of Code Geass. Then that'd be okay because I find that voice hilarious and delightful.

The bolded is an understatement to say the least The pleasure that the overall Japanese entertainment industry seems to take in butchering foreign languages is well known and equal parts hilarious and depressing. I can only assume its a function of so few bilingual people in the country - not enough people to hold your feet to the fire if you mess up. If you royally screw-up a language, any language, in the States, there are enough people fluent/competent in it around who will chew you out for not doing your research. The impression I get is that even with English classes being common in Japan (from my understanding at least), not enough people speak English well to care if you mess up. Like I can jam with derpy attack names to a point but stuff like Five's English in Terror in Resonance (a recent anime) was just painful to listen to. Japan also seems to have a bit of a French/France "fetish" so hearing them butcher French words too is also painful to me as someone whose second language is French Anyway, yeah, if y'all stumped for names & stuffed, don't be afraid to ask. I'm sure we'd all be willing to help Kinda late into this discussion and a bit off topic, but this reminded me of a scene in Subete ga F ni Naru where two characters talk in English for half an episode, and while the grammar was pretty good, there wasn't a single word they didn't completely butcher the pronounciation for. Subtitles were almost mandatory even though the scene was in English. I honestly don't care much (actually I think it's pretty hilarious), but I had to wonder why sometimes it seems like in Japan content creators don't care at all about a halfway decent English pronounciation, be they producers or even voice actors. I studied enough Japanese to know why it's hard for them to get it right, but I never understood why that is. The only time I've seen good English by a Japanese VA was Nabatame Hitomi as Cindy in Squid Girl / Shinryaku Ika Musume. I actually thought the English lines were done by a different VA until a friend told me otherwise.

a lot of that is difference in pronunciation patterns like the lack of a difference between l and r in japanese, itd be like going to a spanish speaking country and not being able to trill your r (the difference between but and dog) or going to a deutch country and having problems with umlauts or specific sounds, hell go to louisiana and try to understand half of what people say when they hit that thick cajun accent
also a good portion of it is practice and overcoming your accent, and im betting a lot of japanese people (especially outside tokyo) dont have a ton of opportunities to interact with native english speakers for a huge length of time to pick up on all the wierdness english has, just like i want to learn japanese but other than being able to recognise a few words and not completely butcher pronunciation and phonetics i would probably be as hard to understand speaking japanese as many would be to me speaking english

Oh, as I said I know why it is hard for Japanese people to get english pronounciation right. English is also a second language to me, and even though I'm a westerner and grew up with the same alphabet as everyone else in this hemisphere, it took me almost 10 years of constant exposure and lots of practice to feel completely confident in my pronounciation, so I totally understand why to the average Japanese person english pronounciation would be hard. My comment was more along the lines of, if I were a Japanese VA, I'd put a little more effort into practicing even a little english / german / french or whatever foreign language is more popular in media there, and if I were a producer I'd make sure my totally serious scene in a murder mystery / suspense plot wasn't completely ruined by hilariously bad pronounciation. XD
Anyway, I'm very off-topic here. Sorry about that.

I've been schooled! But I'm actually kind of glad now that British accents are not a thing, so it will be more natural for the voice actors. (So I take back what I said). I'll for sure remember this as a history lesson.

Liam is my favorite voice actor. His voice has so much versatality. He's been young people, old people, heroes, villains, and has used many accents, including his natural American accent, British, Russian, as well as light hearted and serious roles.
I don't care how often I hear this guys voice. I've loved him ever since I heard him in Paranoia Agent.
Paranoia Agent spoilers watch at your own risk:
My favorite performance of his was one of the first roles I ever heard him in.

Hudson Leick should voice Miriam. She was the voice actress for Jennifer in Primal (extensive amount of dialogue in that game, if any one remembers it). She was also Callisto in Xena Warrior Princess. She has that adorable yet strong girl aura. She seems to be retired from entertainment business though and focusing on some kind of yoga retreat, but she still shows up at conventions!

Would anyone know the name of the singer for "Mad Symphony" from Deathsmiles? (singing starts at the 56:04 mark)
I couldn't help but somehow be reminded of Miriam when hearing this song (the game Deathsmiles itself already vaguely reminds me of the Castlevania series...which Bloodstained is, of course, the spiritual successor to).
Yes, I think this singer's voice would be perfect for Miriam in the Japanese language version.

Oohhh..... Troy Baker would be awesome as either Gebel (as an alternative to David), or as Johannes. He did an amazing job as Abel Nightroad in Trinity Blood. No idea though for Miriam atm though, sadly.
